...Longer Version

or

''Tom vs The Hill of Terror''

this hill is so small you wouldn't even notice it

but Last Summer it was the scene of

my FinalStreet Run

just barely made it back to the house that day.

today,

I tried it again.

the Walking Out Part was the toughest, I knew I had to find my limits before I could push them

and so I trudged, caneless, OUT for about 15-minutes.

when I got to the TurnAround

I thought ''well, might as well let the neighbors get used to it''

unfolded the Canes and started back.

good thing.

the Leg Twinged almost Immediately

and I noticed I wasn't used to where the Dogs live anymore, so the barking made me tense up.

but thanks to the PoolRunning,

I had a rythmn in hips-shoulder turn

which is actually KindaFun to do...

made it back to the house,

stretched out

and looking forward to next time

I STILL haven't taken TheHillOfTerror head-on, but I'm getting there.

...............good running guys...........if you can't do it Head-On, work your Angles....

Great running tw and KS! How do I follow those reports?!

...with a 2 mi w/u followed by 6 mi at tempo - 7:51 pace. Felt good - comfortably hard effort. The worst part was the 3 or 4 times I thought I was gonna get creamed by oncoming cars. This snow won't go away soon enough.

I miss the gang.

Ben is having a tough time remembering visual things, including faces, so anyone he has met post-stroke is a stranger to him... He's awfully polite but also passive when people greet him in the hallways at the rehab hospital, so I decided to pull an economist trick and offer him some financial incentive to retrieve visual memories of people.

"There's money in it for you if you can greet people by name, Ben." "What if I'm wrong and I call them by some random name?" he worried. "That's the risk you take. Try to say 'Hello ________' even before they say hello to you."

So this morning I nudged him in the arm to greet his occupational therapist. "Hi Ansie," he said. Ansie took me aside and said "Did you know? Yesterday afternoon he said 'Hi Linda!'" (This is a speech therapist he has seen only a few times, not daily.) "Linda almost collapsed with surprise!"

That was two greetings in less than 24 hours; woot! Ben summarizes his reaction to the whole deal as "cha-ching."

Today was National Sweater Day, where in support of the WWF, we're supposed to drop our workplace temps by 3°C and all wear sweaters. They had prizes given out at lunch for the ugliest sweater http://blog.wwf.ca/blog/2011/02/16/sweater-day-at-work-and-play/ I wore a bulky old cotton horizontally patterned sweater from my "fat days" over a turtleneck.... and immediately felt I'd gained it all back again. It lasted about 30 seconds into the first hot flash! The ugly sweater winner was a guy wearing his wife's old 1980's Christmas pull-over. Yikes!!!!

Greetings, Masterfuls.

I got in six miles in today, my longest jaunt since mid-October (also six). We got a 55-degree day here in New Hampshire and it was great to take full advantage.

Good runs, all

Yay Baba!!

Heme, I thought that link was going to a be pic of you in your sweater ensemble.

I ended up running 4 miles, feeling nice and relaxed and balanced, even on the uphill coming home. Then I did a modified yoga practice to ensure that I stayed balanced by only working the side that's been out of whack. That might sound counterintuitive, but after doing eagle pose only on my right leg, I felt as complete as I did after the PT adjustment on Monday. Wow.

Oops, somebody forgot to tell me this was easy day thursday (except Mike's nice tempo and BO'R's long run).

I did a 2 mile warmup followed by 15 X 1/4 mile at 6:40 pace with .15 mile recovery at 8:20 pace. All at 3% incline.

With a "kick" at the end, I ran exactly 8 miles in 60:00 gaining 1,266 ft elevation.

The repeats were supposed to be at 5k pace and I think I hit it pretty close. They were comfortably hard but could not have been faster than 5k pace if I was able to do 26 minutes worth of work at that pace. Tomorrow will be an easy day.

Baba, it's exciting to see your progress lately!

Lots of good runs. I don't know if mine was or not. The heat was oppressive. I know I shouldn't complain because it's February, but that's precisely why I'm complaining.

1 mi. warmup: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/68795283

4.5 mi. tempo (low end-half pace): http://connect.garmin.com/activity/68795280

1.5 mi. cooldown: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/68795273

eta-I've looked through my log and discovered this was my longest tempo run ever! 30 minutes or about 3.5 miles would be more typical and I did a 4-mile once, right before my PR half. My "A" race is a half 3/27 so you can see what a confidence-booster this is, now that I've recovered from the heat!
