good luck at the vet KS. Where's Fred?

Nine last night. I ate too much yesterday which slowed me down. Only five planned this evening but as it is supposed to cool off it might be more to burn off the extra calories.

Don't think your cool front will push far enough South Bob!! I think Fred finally gave up on the 50+ thread as posts were getting few and far between. He didn't seem to want to post on our masters thread even though we're all getting close to or over 50. Enjoy the cool.

Hi, guys. I did 4 M on the TM today, all with some unknown incline that the machine was stuck on. I'm guessing it was 2% or more. I have to run a hilly Half this weekend, so I just went with it. I was going to do the middle 2 M @ an 8:00 m/M pace but instead varied the pace to get my HR close to where it would have been at that pace with a 0.5% incline. I think at the end of this "faster" mileage I was down to 10-minute miling. AHRs for the middle two miles were 140 and 145 bpm. This is what I'd like to see during the second half of my Half; we'll see if I can keep myself under control (135 bpm) during the first half.

Speaking of which, there is a good-sized forest fire in northern Minnesota that's got my attention. With a north wind, people as far away as Chicago complain of itchy eyes from the smoke. The path of that smoke would go right through the Kettle Moraine State Forest where my Half is. Luckily, they are forecasting southerly winds for race weekend. I'll take warmer temperatures if it means I can breathe free.

Sounds like a tough TM run, FO!

Hi KS!

Hi Bob!

Hi Mike!

Hi TW!

Hi HF!

We took the 5K crew out for a tour of the course today, and everyone agreed they liked it (except for the hill) and we're pretty much ready to go. Still got to order the race bibs and get the signs all made up. Fun being able to do that during work hours!

Heading out for some power shopping...... and on my own dime, Mike.... in our household, it's almost all my dime. DH is essentially part time, working from home.... I'm the one with the big corporate job. And he's a much better cook than me!

There, fixed that for you, FO. And as one who has dealt with too many smoky days for running, I sure hope you get that southerly wind. (can't complain though really, this has been the most "un-smoky" summer in a long time for us)

...waiting for ks to report back from the vet...

Kinda wet and sprinkly here today after rain last night. It's not even 50° yet today. Hope the forecast for warmer/drier the next couple days is right...

Rest day today. Gotta stop eating so much...

Just got back from the vet.

My grandmother always told me I shouldn't run as I would get an enlarged heart and die young. She's probably laughing from heaven as we speak. Echocardiogram show slightly enlarged heart and the slightest of seepish from one valve. He dismissed the leakage as a non issue and the enlargement as product of exercise.

I maxed out the stress test but it was tougher than I thought. Ended up at 20% incline running 6 miles an hour. He wanted to get my heart rate up to around 146 for my predicted age, weight, etc. I never got my rate over 152 and I told him I raced at 165 which he thought was max and that my max was around 180+. Blood pressure good but noticed some slight concern while the ekg was running during the test. So he is scheduling a cat scan to look at heart, lungs, possible blockages, etc. hopefully next Fri. He is an ex cyclist so he knows where I'm coming from. Told me to keep doing what I'm doing. So he adds that maybe stress (2nd time that's been brought up), poor upper body and core strength (don't think so), and or posture during the day. He said we tend to lean over as we age and put pressure on the lungs. So it's a mixed review and still have to wait another week.

Got 6 on schedule tonight.

I saw a flat snake sleeping on the road this morning. When I went by this evening the snake was a smear on the road.

Evanflein, I thought the reason for running was so we could eat whatever we wanted ??

KS, I'm still catching up on things. You are running like an animal.... is that why you go to see a vet?

You guys are a riot. I've seen erika. She does not out eat her training.......no way. She could have eaten that flat snake if she gets hungry.

Heme - that's really not much of a shopping spree. We know you can do better. Now just go get 'er done girl.

PT - i have two training partners who are real veteranarians. One told my I had some sort of fibrosis and one told me I had pluracy. They are not much help really.

Hi FO and soon to appear HappyFeat and others. I suppose Johnny ought to be showing up soon.

ran another 5.75 tonight with 4.5 pretty good tempo pace. It was just a bit cooler tonight. The cold front stalled out about Austin.

Hi big hearted Ks.....you familiar with Pawnee Prairie Park in SW Wichita??? Googled Trail running Wichita and that came up. According to the folks I'm seeing it's about 3 or 4 minutes from their house. Pretty sure the only thing Kansas trail running has in common with Oregon trail running is dirt though.

Hi All

Read about all the heartrates today so I got mine up to 164 on the eliptical. Temps were a couple degrees cooler and lower humidity so

I really cranked up the effort the last half hour.

Our cold front is bringing us temps that may fall into the 30s overnight after upper 90s a couple weeks ago.

Good luck on the hilly half FO I recognize the park from the 100 miler they have there.

love it!! (call me quirky!) Good job on 7 miles, Johnny!

5 miles for me tonight on the TM to test the waters...the week didn't start well for me...minor meltdown in terms of my training...been trying too hard I guess. So I swapped last nights' tempo run for yoga. Tonight went okay, some nagging issues, but mostly it took more mental effort than it should have...shouldn't have needed any.

KS is right - that's sensible shopping , Heme! Go crazy! OK? Buy something FUN! Try going for for a margarita or something before you hit the stores

Johnny you have to get to S.E. Kansas to find a good trail. Flatrock 25 and 50K is a real butt kicker type of race. Lots of rocks and up and downs.
