I'm turning 40 on a Sunday in a few weeks. I found some local 5k races that weekend. There's one on Saturday and one on Sunday. That means I can do one while I'm still in the M35-39 Age Group, or I can do one while I'm in the M40-44 group. Or I could do both, I suppose. (Doing both would mean I won't be at my best, of course). It would seem like there's an advantage to being the youngest guy in the Age Group, as opposed to the oldest guy. But the 40s are always a lot more competitive than the 30s. I have no idea what either race is like, so I very well might not have a prayer of placing in either race. Hell, I don't even know what kind of advice I'm asking you guys for. I'll probably just run both of them. I'll go all out in the Saturday race, and then go all out with whatever I have left in the Sunday race. And thus I'll see if I can start off my first day in my 40s by blowing out a knee or something...

boB - all I'll say is you never know with these things. I remember during the 4-miler I did with my brother on the 4th of July last year, we ended up first/second place in our "AG" (I put that in quotes because they didn't have AG awards). However, those times would've barely eked us into the Top 10 among the 50-59 males.

I just say go out and have fun at one or both races if ya' wanna
