Well I'm hoping for a nice easy day at school today since so many people are going to be gone.

My calves are still pretty tight, last night I ended up sticking myself and got no massage. Coach has been having soem calf problems so his wife was giving him a calf massage and he's hurting in the exact same place as me. It's not at the bulging part of the calf, but right under that. Probably about halfway down. I've run out of ideas so I guess I'll just go easy tonight at the meet. I really hope anything fast won't set this back even more though...

Duckgeek - Just think of it like a little strider that's actually really long...when's your race?

Have a great day.

Alex,

Assuming that you're doing other calf stretches, here's one that might help. Lie on your back, lift a leg straight up and with your arms pull it towards you (under your knee) as far as it will go reasonably. Then raise and lower your foot that's at the end of that leg. You'll feel it in the calf. 10 reps. Next leg, and then repeat.

+/1 6 miles slow pace with hills and 6x100 metre strides. Snow. A tad tired and sore, but this isn't something to worry about, I had a good run yesterday and was manhandled in physio.

1:20 on the TM this morning. Watched the bulk of "Running on the Sun". My goal to run my regular training runs (not speed work or long runs) a bit harder is going well.

I had my first post-marathon run this morning and I just did a relaxing 6.2 miles on the nearby golf course. My legs felt great with the exception of some tenderness in my right calf. (What's going on with people's calves these days?!?!?) It was great to run after the three-day layoff.

The pictures from the St. Louis Marathon are online and if you'd like to see me in all my agony, go HERE and enter my Bib #52.

Enjoy your runs!

Hope you feel better soon, flounder.

Yesterday mr jebba went back to work for the first time since Little Easy was born. Of course it was a 30 hour shift, so I had a lot of time to practice managing two kids by myself. He'll be back this afternoon.

Anyhoo, I'm tired, but managed a 40 minute pilates/cardio dvd. My abs are almost non-existent. Not sure if I'll jog a couple of miles later today.

I got up and took the 5:45 a.m. spinning class. It was butt-kicking as usual. My legs are looking different after a month of cycling as my main cardio, more muscular or something.

When I got to work I taught mat pilates and then taught power yoga. Phew!

Alex, it sounds like it might be your soleus muscles.

jebba, was that the Crunch DVD? Those hip circles are HARD.

Well with no improvements in the calf situation today I decided to stay home and tend to their needs. Lots of icing, massaging, a bit of ibueprofin and some heating pad will do the trick....fingers crossed. It was a real small meet on an asphalt track and we have a big invite next Tuesday, so I'm hoping to be back to normal by then. I wish I could go get a massage somewhere...

Thanks SGH I'm gonna go web surfing for some more stretches/alternatives to add to my healing regime.

Alex, if $ is an issue, see if there are any massage schools in the area, they give super discounted massages at their student clinics. When i was in grad school there was a massage school near by where i got $10 one hour massages!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks merigayle, but I am pretty doubtful. I live in central WI and the closest town with a college is about 45 mins. to an hour away. Plus I don't think I'd be able to sneak that one my parents. My bank is a bit on the depleted side, and I don't think they'll be dishing out for that. I'm going to talk to Coach tonight and see if I can get him to do it, or his wife (my other XC coach).

5.7 gorgeous miles at lunch today. I held a 7:58 or so pace the whole way while I caught up on PTI podcasts. The weather was perfect, so I just relaxed and enjoyed myself.

Alex, the Eugene Marathon is 4/29. I plan on running it as a training run more than a race, but you never know...
