So today's the first day of spring?

Three miles on the treadmill in what felt like a comfortable 27:25. Got to get both kids up now and out the door.

Good ones, all.

After reading through the last two days posts I just wanted to first take the time to say to all those that are battling hardships with your family that you are all in my thoughts. You are all incredibly strong and I admire you all for still balancing running even with everything going on. Best wishes and strength to all of you!

Ellen, if it's the first day of spring, you can't tell here. It's rainy and nasty. Nice job getting it in early!

Yesterday's workout was a 60 minute negative split run again. I was confined to the treadmill though bc of all day rain showers How incredibly boring. Started at 6.6 and was supposed to bump up .2 every 10 min until the last portion was just slightly faster than goal HM pace. The last 20 minutes were tough as I was getting so bored and losing so much sweat being inside. The last 10 minutes I kinda toyed with the speed a little. Wound up being 7miles exactly in 60 minutes for an 8:34 average pace. Today I'm resting because tomorrow I'm heading up to Westchester to visit my boyfriend. LOTS AND LOTS of hills up there, unlike down here, so I'm saving my energy for the trails

Good running and workouts to all!

Yep Ellen- first day of spring- which in Ohio apparently = scraping my car windshield of frost this morning...

Sounds like a good workout Liz, and I know what you mean about dehydrating inside. I always have to drink extra water during my runs when they're inside.

Enjoy the dip Richard- but you shoudl really take it easy on yourself- you don't really need to do 18-20 do you? My team's behind enough as it is...

Well I certainly got my butt kicked last night. I met up with the Five Rivers Running group for the first time. Told the coach kind of what I'd been doing, and we were off. Did a really good warm-up, then got inot the workout. He had me line up with the fastest group to test me, and I knew I was screwed when he told us the workout. 5 sets of 5 minutes @ 5:30 pace with 3 minuters rest in between. To be honest, I'd probably do about 5:15 if I ran a mile all out right now, so we were pretty much at my limit the whole way. I managed to stick with them the first one, and about 3/4s of the way through the second, but dropped about 5-10 seconds behind by the end of that one. I probably slowed to 5:50 pace for the third before coach Fox declared me dead for the day. I hated to go out like that, so I hooked up with the next group down for their last set of 4 minutes @ 6mpm pace.
Ended up getting about 11 in I think, and I got a darn good night's sleep last night. I'm not nearly as sore as I thought I'd be this morning, so that's nice. I'll probably still take it easy tonight and try to hold myself to 7 in preparation for a 20 miler on Friday.
Enjoy your runs today everyone.

Mailbox and Liz great workouts last night. Liz, enjoy your visit with the BF and thank you for your kind words.

Ellen good job this morning. Dan and Richard, enjoy your workouts.

Ran 56 minutes on the trails this morning.

Have all the Boston bound folk checked their bib/corral # yet? They are up on the BAA site. Corral 3 for me again (#3181).

Tomorrow heading up for the wake and funeral. Going to be sad, but it will be good to spend time with my mom, aunt, and the rest of the family.

Good morning everyone. Today my calf is feeling much better. I am hopeful that by monday or even sooner I will be able to resume running again.

Nice workouts everyone. Like Ellen and Liz, the first day of spring has brought rain showers and snow depending on wher you are at. I might go swimming today and then again I might just become a basketball junkie and watch that today. Have a great day everyone.

Mailbox - That is one of my favorite workouts 5x5 @ I pace, but You have to walk the fine red line for the correct I-Pace

I have so little time to get in shape before Boston that I did a 3-in-1 run today

17 miles (Midweek Long run) with 4 miles @ MP + 24 Minutes @ T pace -

All paces are still way too slow, but ... They were the right T and MP for my current fitenss level.

Good running to all-

argh, 7 miles every one of which was a pain. Was hoping to push it on hills but the slightest incline felt like a mountain!

Spring has sprung... ok, it's 32 degrees but at least it's sunny!

Group run tonight. I want to do 8 but since it's at 6:30pm, it'll probably be limited to 5 miles. Rather annoying. Hopefully they'll be someone at my pace else I'll be the rabbit out front again. At least that makes me feel fast.

Mailbox - sounds like a real lung/quad burner last night!

Hello everyone:

I ran a "Cruise Interval" Last night...I'm tired this morning. The CI called for:

1 mile warmup
4x1 miles at 8:06 with half-mile recoveries
1 mile cooldown
total: 8 miles

Nailed the splits: 8:05, 8:02, 8:05, 7:57 - so I was happy about that

Later today I'll be running 5 recovery miles...and believe me they will be RE-CO-VER-Y miles!

Dan: I feel your pain...I don't want to run a bit right now!!!

Flounder: WOW - now that is one big workout. Way to push it!

Dave: cool workout! Have you ever thought of mountain climbing - come over to the Northwest and you can pick your mountain: Hood, Rainier, Adams, etc!

Kevin: Hope you feel better...you can take the extra time to make sure your BRACKET is filled out perfect!

Loopy: Hang in there

Mailbox: Cool that you hooked up with a group! Sounds like a killer workout!

Richard: Enjoy the swim and the big long run!

Liz: Have fun on those hills...I'll be doing a 17 mile run in Forrest Park on Saturday - there's not one flat part on those trails!

Ellen: Looks like your day will be busy - hope you enjoy it!

Ok everyone else - have a great day

Hey everyone, I'm back at work today, so that is one good thing about the day so far. I also feel like, hey, if I am okay to go to work, I'm okay to run right? I'm going to take it easy though...in fact, I may go halfsies on my run today, doing 5 or 6 at lunch and 5 or 6 after work. Maybe. I might also do my usual 8 mile run + elliptical this evening after work. We'll just have to see.

Ellen - loved the photos. Nice to see pictures of people in their races.

Liz - nice to hear from you again.

Richard - Wish I could run the 18 - 20 with you...I'd KILL for a long run of that sort right now. Maybe Sunday...

Mailbox - what's with the 20 miler? Are you training for something big?

Loopy - sorry to hear about your loss...I've been thinking about you the last couple of days. If you need someone to talk to about death, I'm here. I lost my mother just 6 months ago. I ran through it and it did wonders for me.

kfuller - to answer your question about the elliptical -- it depends on the machine. There are so many types of ellipticals that, depending on the model, brand, etc. it's hard to tell you what resistance I use unless you use the same model, and same workout program on the machine, as I do. What type of model was it, or do you know?

flounder - you are so inspiring these days. Your balance in life has really gotten my attention. Way to be bud.

dan - way to get through it anyway.

RA - I had the same problem the ONE time I ran with the Omaha Running Club. Needless to say that one time was enough for me. Too little miles, too easy + no one willing to run at my pace = solo runs for me. I'm not worried about it. I'm a solo runner anyway.

brian - I see you're starting to feel the effects of the marathon training.

Have a great first day of spring everyone--I wish I had a tv at my desk so I could watch my brackets prevail!

Tonya-- It is a precor. That seems to be the brand the rec center likes to buy. I did my own workout and not one of the preset ones. CBSsports.com would have great updates as they host all the games on TV.

Brian-- I have perfected my bracket and I am keeping my fingers crossed that there are no major upsets today or tomorrow. 1 hr till the madness starts.

Quick morning check in from windy Northern Virginia. Yet another busy day at the office but planning to head out around lunchtime for about 9...that's about the longest route I can realistically string together near the office. Temps will be in the 50s but won't feel that way with gusts going as high as 45 mph. I packed my wind gear so I'll be ready.

And yeah, I need to go check the BAA website for my bib #. And the National Marathon website too! That one's next week! At least I do know as a DC Road Runners Club member we have our special registration table...should speed things up a little. Oh well, details, details. As soon as I get a moment to breathe around here I will check.

I don't do the mountain climbing thing because I like it. I do it because i have to. Of course it would be much better if I didn't have to carry all that extra weight.

That is exciting!

Alex - I just did the Jack Daniels Calculation - If I lose 20 KG by July 3rd - You will be toast in the H&S race

Of course fat chance that will happen - enjoy your recovery run

I will jog 4-5 slow miles at lunch - I should go outside, but with the NCAAs going - Probably the YMCA

Mike isn't that 44#? Did you factor in my improvement as well?

2.8 really easy jog, near the end I stopped at the track and it still has a good 4-5" on it. Warm up!!!
