Wow - Can you all believe it is the end of February already. Where is the time going?

Brian - Sorry to hear about Loomis. Glad he is OK though.

Oh and Good Morning all.

I am getting ready to head to the fish bowl. I really don't have anything planned yet. Probably some breathing drills for the WU and then work on technique for a few hundred meters. Should be a short workout as far as length goes. Have my 5 mile TT on the bike today. Hopefully the wind will hold off until after I am complete.

Have a great one all.

Morning everyone!

Had class again late last night, so I didn't get to post my workout. 30 minutes of bike intervals, walked half a mile w/10% inclince in 7:30 then did 10 min hard on the stairmaster. My heart rate again was through the roof, much much higher than when I run but I attribute that to the meds the doctor recommended for this icky flu. Might ATTEMPT to run tomorrow. I'm still not feeling 100% after being sick and I don't want to weaken my immune system more so I'll see how I feel.

Just got through all of yesterdays posts. Great runs as usual!
Brian-- So sorry to hear about your dog. He's a beautiful dog by the way.
Dave- Enjoy the swim.
Richard- Enjoy your swim as well. That's great that your wife is going to the Y now!
Nirvana and Equinox- Keeping my fingers crosses for a speedy recovery for you guys.

Have a great day

Hopefully can get an easy run in before the bus leaves for a really far away Regional game...team they are playing tonight is very good so after this I may not need to worry about basketball anymore. If they do win though, all the power to 'em.

Good day again all.

Richard, Liz, & Alex - Have a great workout today.

Me - I put in 1150 meters at the pool. I miss counted again. Oh well, good thing for the lap function on the watch. I can always go back and count the total laps. since I use it for my rest periods as well I can't just look at it and know how many laps I did.

Happy training all.

Hi there! Rest day for me today. I'm teaching yoga tonight and plan to do some weights before that.

with a long weekend, I'm deciding between doing my long run tomorrow morning or Saturday. I'll probably see what day will be nicer weather-wise. It would feel good to have it done tomorrow and all day Saturday freed up for some other projects.

Liz -- you're smart to take it easy while you recover.

Richard -- hamburgers pre-long run. Have you considered becoming an ultrarunner?

Brian -- how's the pup?

I hope everyone enjoys their workouts today!

Nice swimming Dave, and good luck with your swim Richard.

Be careful out there Liz.

I would say goodluck to your girls team for tonight, but it sounds like you're ready for that season to be over.

Glad to see Nirvana easing back into things.

For me, didn't quite have time to get 13 in. The wife had to take a test, so I had to make sure the cats didn't bug her (jump up onto the keyboard).
I still wanted to get at least 10 in, so I let myself go a little faster than normal. Did the first 5 in 6:40 pace, and the last 5 in just under 7:30 pace.
I give the 13 another shot tonight.

Good morning to all the early birds today. 5 miles today with some 800 repeats at the track this afternoon. As long as Track practice has not started I will be o.k. Looks like some good workouts today and some more planned for later today. Keep up the great work everyone.

Good morning and good running (and swimming) all. Richard, enjoy your breakfast out.

Like SGH, today is a rest day for me -- had a busy schedule this morning so decided I would take the day off from running.

I am starting to get really nervous/excited about Saturday's 10 mile race. Not quite sure what to shoot for. I think I am going to go in aiming roughly for 6:15 pace and adjust as necessary -- depending on the field, I may try to run a more strategic race and go for placing...

Morning all;

Today, my sensible self is telling me to rest but my running self is telling me that I need to get in another 14 miles for a 30mpw average on the month... I have my kit at work today so we'll see how the smack down goes...

Mailbox - Nice pace. What is it with cats and keyboards? Ours whines and whines to sit on my lap, while I'm at my desk, then decides to walk all over the keyboard pressing as many keys as possible. So, I like to blame any spelling and grammar mistakes on the cat. Typically though my fingers are typing ahead of my brain.

Loopy - 6:15mpm for a 10 miler. Nice! I'd be more than happy with that pace for a 10k...

Richard - hopefully those burgers are not WC sliders...

Hey everyone,

Back from my 5 mile recovery...ran at a 10:31 pace. Still bummed about my dog Loomis who got attacked at the dog park yesterday evening...can't put much support on one of his legs, but the doctor is hopeful that he'll fully recover...not a good day for me obviously - He's supposed to be my running partner so it hurt twice as much. I'm not an angry person, but I'm still going to call the owner of the other dog today and give him a piece of my mind (and a vet bill)...he seemed nice enough, but he better not bring that dog back to the dog park again. Grrrr. (ok, that's about as mean sounding as I can be!)

time for shower and then coffee and (time for trivia...) _ _ t m _ _ l.

(((Loomis))) If there's no improvement, I'd take him back to the vet just to be sure they didn't miss something. However, make sure you aren't babying him. Dog are VERY smart and will milk things as much as they can. Poor guy. Who couldn't love a face like that???

Great run for me this morning!!! Had to drive over to another neighborhood as ours is still a sheet of ice. WU/CD (.85m, packed snow/ice) were 7:40 and 7:27. Three laps, 2.58m, 22:04, 21:57 and 21:57. 8:30pace. Yah, DEAD ON!!! Total 9.42m, 1:21:06, 8:37pace

So much going on...

I ran 4 miles yesterday. Again, I went way too fast. This either means my pace is improving or I've lost feel for pace. I've had a lot of rest and that helps too. Each mile was faster than the last...and I tried to slow down during each one.

I wouldn't mention this at all but it was really great because my wife and kids saw me along my route. That was nice enough. The wife didn't think that was adequate, so she drove back around to cheer me on again! I got high fives from everyone and then I took off. Had to be the highpoint of my day.

Gonna try to get out to the pool for some more rolling and floating. Then, 2 miles tonight.

Here's to high points!

ok, got my oatmeal....mmmm...walnuts, raisins, and brown sugar today...

Billy: Nothing like having the support of your family all around you! Soak it in!

4bm: Nice workout! Glad you had a good time out there - even in that weather!

Richard: Good job on the swim...I wouldn't mind a few ultra peeps pressuring me!

Asics: good job on the 30mpw...enjoy that 14!

Loopy: Enjoy the rest - looking forward to your race report!

Mailbox: 10 yesterday, 13 today...what is your weekly average at now?

SGH: Enjoy the rest!

Dave: Who taught you to swim with all the drills and everything? Always wondered how I could become a better swimmer besides reading info about it.

Alex: Enjoy the game

Liz: Sounds like some good workouts...anytime I do something like stairclimber my heartrate jumps compared to running too - sounds like you're doing everything right in your recovery - keep it up!

everyone else...enjoy.

Another morning check-in for me prior to running later. I'm planning on an easy 9 miler today, this afternoon probably around 2pm or so. I'll go with my co-worker as soon as he gets out of his 1pm meeting.

Question for the group here: I've got 20 miles planned for Saturday. It's a pretty critical run with my tuneup marathon (National) now just a month away. But the next day there is a 12k race, and I'm actually considering doing it. Why?

- it's a club race, so no entry fee for me
- it's mostly on trails, so some nice soft ground running
- it's close to home
- last chance to get points in the club's winter racing series

Why not? Well, the obvious reason (duh) is that I'm going long the day before. Not to mention I have indoor soccer on Sunday evening. If I did do the race I wouldn't be expecting anything close to optimal performance; I would do it more as a training run than a race. Thoughts? Am I nuts?

Brian - I had oatmeal this morning too, even though my run's not 'til later. I guess yesterday's discussion inspired me.

4bm - nice pace on that run, esp. with all that ice

Mailbox - wow, quite a pace on the 10, and you're still racking up the miles.

kfuller - good luck w/ the 800s

SGH/loopy - enjoy the off day

RichardC - if I ate burgers before a long run I'd be leaving them on the course somewhere. Good swim this morning; that's cool your wife has joined you.

Alex - good luck w/ the run and the hoops game.

Liz -way to keep on with that recovery

Dave - swim already in the books and good luck with the bike TT.

OK that's it for now. Run report later.

Looks pretty typical in here today - major stuff going on. People and their busy lives...lol.

SGH - I just wanted to address two things you have asked me about the past few days. One being the way I felt during the VRAA. Those feelings I described--I totally did not have those types of feelings DURING the competition. I only realized I was actually feeling that way afterwards, or more accurately, recently. I didn't know that I was going to be so let down after not winning, but I guess it's probable, considering how I felt after coming in OA Female winner in that last 8k I ran, and still being upset about not PR'ing. I'm just too competitive. It was only after talking to Phillip about it that I realized how I'm really not good in a team environment. Not because I don't want to work with the team, but because I tend to have VERY high expectations that are usually not attainable. At least not for people who are doing it for a little extra motivation, rather than to beat the pants off of others.

Also, no, I did not get Brooks shoes last night from the running store. Have you been accepted and received your discount code yet from Brooks? If not, they tell you that you can only get the discount by ordering through their website. Plus the guy who I talked to last night at the running store told me that the shoes I have been wearing are fine for my feet, and that the only thing I need are some better arch supports than the ones the doctor gave me. The ones he gave me should have lasted, oh, about a DAY! You can imagine my surprise. I purchased some new ones, so we'll see how those work today on my run.

So, probably after work today, I will be attempting a 12 mile run. Well, either that or a tempo run. We'll see. Depends on how I feel whenever I get down there.

Never fails, when I try to respond to everyone I miss somebody.

Billy - nice run this AM. Not often you get a rooting section on a training run.

RA - good luck with the 14 if you attempt it.

Tonya - ha, slipping in late just I posted causing me to edit my message. Good luck with the 12...why don't you try going easy/moderate steady for 10 and then banging it hard for the final 2? Trust me, it's a blast.
