Hey it's my coach's birthday today...I really think he's gonna love what I got him. If any of you ahve ever read the popular running novel from the 70s Once A Runner, I highly recommend buying Again to Carthage. It is definitely a great sequel. I read mine in about 3 days and I was busy. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Smile"> Now if only I had that zeal for homework...<br><br>
Legs are super sore so I'll probably just do 4 easy with no watch and then soak in the hot tub tonight. I can't wait until my body gets back into this whole running thing so I can start training.<br><br>
Have a great day.

You're not training now?<br><br>
8.27 miles in to work, definitely pronounced negative split. Nice day for running, temps at freezing point, no wind.

11 miles with 10 X 30 seconds strides w/30 second rests, big hill, 6 X 60 seconds strides with 60 second rests. Getting marathon ready (eleven days away) and I've lost six pounds in three days. Maybe that's why I felt so frikkin' cold.<br><br>
(Disclaimer: Professional runner. Don't try this at home.)

Alex, I'd like to read both of those books.<br><br>
Grizzly, nice commute!<br><br>
Doctor Wu, good run. What are you doing to lose weight like that? Careful that you don't get yourself sick in the process.<br><br>
I did 10 miles in 50F temps with some wind. My average pace was 9:12 but I felt at least 1 min/mile slower. I am tired from last night's workout and a poor night's sleep.<br><br>
Later today I'll take pilates, teach yoga, and join the new masters swimmeing group that just started working out Thursday nights at the Y. I doubt I will push myself in the pool much though, just get a few laps in and work on form.

Great runs today everyone. I had a great run today, too. I've been having a hard time lately with motivation and getting the time in for decent workouts. So recently I started running shorter distances faster just to shake things up a bit. So I've been running 2 or 3 miles every day, faster than usual, and then lifting weights and stuff.<br><br>
At lunch today, I ran one mile to the Y, ran a 5k program on the treadmill, and then ran a mile back to the office. My 5k treadmill loop was 1:45 faster than my most recent 5k race. So I'm feeling pretty energized.<br><br>
I'm going to sign up for a 5k on December 1 and see how I do.

Nice runs everyone<br><br>
i got in 5 miles at more or less tempo pace.<br><br>
As to weight loss before two marathons I had a big weight drop (5lbs) for no apparent reason during my taper. Weirded me out.

Correction: 8.5 pounds in four days. It's simple for me to lose weight: just stop eating everything in sight like I usually do.

Nice, easy, relaxing 4.2 miles with no watch to worry about paces and speeding up or slowing down. I think I need to quit being so analytical in my training and run more by effort this winter, but it's hard since I love all the numbers. Even if I never look at my watch the whole run, without it is so much more relaxing.<br><br>
Griz - I see this as my get it back together nice and slow so I can go run my normal paced-runs. Hopefully a winter full of that will build up my durability and give me a great head-start on track season.

SGH - I'd definitely wait for Once A Runner. With the excitement over the sequel, everyone wants to read the original and it's been out of print for numerous years. They did have a single reprinting a few years back, but prices of books right now are in the $200+ range, some well over 300. Luckyily my coach has it from the 70s and I've been "borrowing" it for about 2.5 years. I've read it about 7 times and it never gets old...amazingly motivational book and the sequel isn't any different. When I do have to return it though, I found a PDF file of the book that I'll print off so I'll still have a "hard-copy" of it around.

planned to run really easy as my quads are "still" sore, but I got to the end of the block and saw my friend that I haven't run with forever. He's a bad influence on me and makes me run too fast.

7.5 miles tonight, first time in a while that I made it to the group run. I ended up running more of it than usual by myself because no one was running the same pace.

jebba -- that was a great run! I bet you're going to be pleasantly surprised with the 5k. Are you still going to train for a Half?<br><br>
Alex, interesting about Once a Runner. I didn't know that it was so in demand and rare.<br><br>
Doctor Wu -- we normal metabolism types despise people like you.
