Mornin' ya'll,

I reckon I'll start the thread. I might get a run in later this afternoon. I have 3 back to back classes 8-12:15. Then I'll be gettin ready and heading down to Bristol with my boyfriend to see "Spirit of the Marathon"! I'm excited Thats where he's from and its about 2 hours from here, but it was the closest theater that was showing it.

We're going to try and get a run in (probably 5-6 miles) once we get down there before supper. Have a good day ya'll! Anyone else planning on seeing that movie today?

Megs - have a great run later, and let me know how that movie goes. Phillip has class all the way up until 9:00 pm so we can't go. I noticed they are doing an encore screening in February...maybe we'll be able to make that one.

Well, it's official! We're going to Chicago March 30th for the Shamrock Shuffle. I got my registration completed yesterday, and here it is:

Janzen Tonya Omaha NE F25 to 29 8K OPEN TOP 100

That's right! That "Top 100" there at the end means I made the elite Corral...

Phillip will also be running this race. We are really excited, to say the least.

I'll probably do a long run at lunch today. Everyone is out of the office (for the most part) because of a meeting in Des Moines, IA--including my boss--so I'm going to do the 12 mile run I'm supposed to do on Sunday. I'm switching it out with the 8k I'll be doing that day.

Glad I'm not running outside right now. Temperatures here are -9.

-13 here with -30 WC. I really do not feel like running in this crap and I'm sick of the TM. This weekend will be nice and in the 30s they say though. Hopefully I feel better on today's run...

Megs that movie looks really neat. Have a good time.

Good morning all.

Megs - Hope you get that run in later and enjoy the movie.

Tonya - Congratulations! Have a good run at lunch.

Alex - Sorry about the weather. If you come to LA (Lower Alabama) you could run outside everyday. The coldest it gets here is about 20'.

Richard - Safe travels.

I went to the pool this morning. Short workout but worked on some 50 meter speed drills. It went OK, I didn't have a goal time since this is the first I have really tried it. I did 8 x 50 meters with 30 second rest. My times were: 49.96 - 48.51 - 49.62 - 50.47 - 51.16 - 49.66 - 50.02 - 53.34. There were other people in the lane as well and sometimes I just couldn't do a flip turn, which I think might make up the difference on some of them. For the last one, I was spent and was struggling to make it to the end of the pool without drowning. 800 meters total with 200 WU / CD. I am smoked.

The off to the gym for 25 minutes for a light workout.

Hope everyone has a great day.

You'll have to let us know if the movie's worth seeing Megs.

That's great about the registration Tonya, the only way I can be "elite" at races is to cherry pick events with less than 100 people at them.

Good luck whichever option you choose Alex. I'm sure last night was just a little hiccup and you'll be back running well soon.

Richard- hope you can squeeze some runs into your schedule.

Dave- you do realize when it's below freezing outside, most people don't want to go and swim... Sounds like a good workout.

For me- last night started a little crappy- some muscle in my back cramped up to the point where it was tough to breathe. Gave it about a mile and it went away. From there, not really sure what happened but I ended up averaging 15-25 seconds faster per mile at that effort level than I usually do. Maybe I should hope for back problems at the begining of my next race?

Should be another easy 10 tonight. Oh yeah- the chili turned out great last night.

I take full credit for noticing that Tonya would be in the elite corral and encouraging the sign-up

runasics: Where is the track you were using yesterday?

Some kind of easy run scheduled for me today. Wind chill is -25 so I really don't want to go outside anymore. Waiting for the bus this morning was pretty awful, even with 3 layers. Might switch to the treadmill, although I like everyone at work thinking I'm certifiably insane.....

Rest or easy 3-4 miles on the TM at the work gym (depending on how I'm feeling) then Spirit of the Marathon tonight.

It's a 1/8 mile indoor track at my local park center (I'm in the North Shore burbs these days) along with my gym. I'm too chicken to run outside in this weather.

So, it looks like we'll be chasing Tonya at the Shamrock Shuffle this year. Too fun. I'll have my work cut out to keep up with you both!

Good morning everyone. Lots of activity so early this morning.

Dave-- That swimming workout you did today was quite the quality workout. I remember doing that kind of stuff when I was on the swim team in High School. Keep up the good work.

Looks like I have 5 miles scheduled for today. Have a great morning everyone and keep up the great running.

Morning all...

Tonya--way to go! So, now that you are an elite, when are you going to start working with a coach?

Alex--uh, yah, that's COLD!!!

Mailbox--I vote for the chili, too.

David--great swim! I've yet to even attempt flip turns. I do a modified buoy turn.

As for me, I was all prepped for a road ride this morning. Brought Ruby in and set out all her gear. Got up this morning to... snow. So I was stuck sitting on Tequila in the garage. Of course, her shoes were in the garage... Grumble, grumble, grumble... So, 30mins sitting in the garage going nowhere. I hate winter.

As a reward for that, I did a quick little trot around the neighborhood. Roads were snow covered, but not bad. Except for the patches of ice that were of course covered with snow... Focus was holding it to z2, which I did most of the time. Felt sluggishly slow, though. 2.45m, 21:34, 8:48pace.

Hi everyone,

Busy group again this morning. As for me I actually feel pretty good after last night's track workout, and I'm pleased with how productive the tempo runs I cranked out were. Like Tonya, I really feel good about my prospects for Boston.

Today - 8 mile easy run with some strides planned. I will once again attempt to get that in during the work day. IF that works out, I will then do a 3-5 mile recovery run at home on the mill this evening for the double.

Speaking of Tonya - congrats on your elite placement. Now just don't forget about all us little people. And all you guys running that thing are making me feel like jumping on a plane and going out there!

Dave/4bm - my idea of a swim turn is grab for the wall and push off again. Sorry I have no technique!

Megs - have fun at the movie. Should provide great motivation for your running too.

Nirv/Richard/Kfuller/RunAsics - enjoy the cold runs or indoors if you so choose.

Hey everyone,

went to the gym at 6:00am and did some weights, and then ran four miles outside at a 10:00 pace in 26 degree weather with quite a bit of wind...burrrrr.

Megs...wow sounds like a fun day!
Tonya...cool about "elite" status!
Alex...-13? And I thought that 26 was cold!
Mailbox...glad the back is feeling good

Looks like some good workouts out there today...enjoy!

Sorry I have not posted lately - I have been very busy and did a bit of traveling. Also I am a bit intimidated by the size our thread has gown too. I feel like I can pay each of you the respect all hour hard work deserves. I usually do not have time to read everyones messege let alone respond.

When things slow down a little for me - I will enjoy our growth and variety - So for awhile forgive me if I am only partially engaged.

8 miles this am -

I continue to struggle with consistency - less in my running, but more in my nutrition, hydration and sleep. I think you need all 4 to make fast progress, so my progress has been slow. 5 weeks until Point Bock 5 miler, I am not as confident that I will be able to compete with Alex. Boston - Goal of sub 3:00 is still attainable - but not unless I start being focussed.

Don't mean to ramble

Good running to all -

Don't worry I am trying to self teach myself on how to do flip turns. Sometimes I am too soon others not soon enough and I end up kicking the side of the pool. Others I just don't hold my momentum to get a good push. Oh well I am learning.

That is the way most of my turns end up. But hey I am trying.
