Dave, Ellen, where are you guys?

Dad's a butcher so lots of nummy steaks, jerky, venison, hamburgers....mmmmm. I also absolutely love my veggies and fruits. To the point where I'll each a green pepper or half watermelon in one sitting.

Run afterschool before we leave for the game so it'll be rushed, but I want to get in 6 or 7. Have a great day.

Heal up Griz.

have a good run alex hope the girls have a good game.
I'm thinking about running, but truth be told it scares the heck out of me. I'm just petrified now to go back out and have something still hurt, it'll just be so discouraging.

I'm with you on the Steaks Alex that would be awesome. (and yes I did capitalize Steaks on purpose because it counts as a proper noun to me...)

I really hope all goes well for you XC. I know how frustrating it can be trying to get back into it. Just don't be too slow to pull the plug if you need to.

Yesterday's run went pretty well for me yesterday. I've made it a goal this winter to run on every road in every neighborhood near my current home-town, so I'll pick an area for the run, and just map it out. Really passes the time that way, and I was 9 miles into it before it felt like I had even gone three. I only told Kelli I was going to be out for 10, so I had to head back right away even though I wanted to keep going. Still ended up a little over at 10.5, but a pretty fun run.

Another 10 and another neighborhood planned for tonight. Hope everyone's warm enough on their runs today.

I am going out today reguardless of it only forecasted to get 22 degrees today. I am one of the red meat fans along with wild game (deer, antelope, elk etc..) as I grew up in Wyoming and went hunting and such. Anyway, enough about that. I have 5 miles scheduled for latere today. Should be a great relaxing run.

Mailbox-- Wow!! did I read that correct? 10 this morning and 10 later? That is some serious mileage.
Alex-- Enjoy the running later.
xcrunner-- Good luck on the running. I hope the pain is gone.

Short list for so early in the morning, but looking forward to reading everything else for the day. Have a wonderful morning.

Biked for an hour on the trainer this morning while watching a dvr of Law & Order (yeah, I'm guilty of being a L&O junkie). Made the hour go by really fast! Running 5 at lunch, then yoga tonight. A triple!

XCRunner, good luck. Maybe try a run/walk combo? (Run 1 minute, walk 2 minutes, etc.)

I don't abstain from red meat, but I don't eat a ton of it either. I'm a huge fan of veggies though. People at work laugh 'cause I'm microwave some peas at 3 in the afternoon as a "snack".

Ellen - I am very encouraged to hear about your veggieness. I like to eat mostly veggie, but after hard workouts or long runs my body tells me that it craves a burger or steak...did you ever have that feeling?

I do love meat though...which creates conflict in wanting to be veggie yet loving meat. I could never be a vegan though, I love cheese & chocolate way too much to give them up!

Anyway...plan to run 5 or so at lunch today. Nervous about Saturday, a high of 4 in Chicago...just hope it's warmer than that in NH next weekend!

Good morning all.

I needed to sleep in a little this morning. This weeks workouts have really drained me. Yesterday was brutal. I was planning for an early morning swim but I scrubbed it. I was sore this morning when i got up. I will do it over lunch though.

Great job out there all.

Good morning to all from snowy Northern Virginia. It's falling hard right now and looks pretty from my office window. But I hear it will turn to freezing rain, i.e., "wintry mix" later.

As for today's run. I'm still smoked from two days of hard workouts and am planning on 5-6 at recovery pace. I brought gear with me for a midday run -- even packed my trail running shoes in preparation for slippery terrain -- with the idea being my coworker and I would run together. That was our plan as of yesterday anyway. He brought his stuff too, but with the current weather it's all up in the air right now. I'm hoping we can still do the run this afternoon outside, but if not I may just go home early. He and I also live in the same neighborhood, so we could still run together on the trail...that would actually be fun in the snow. If all else fails, there's always the treadmill.

On the meat/veggie issue...I don't each much red meat. For me it's an occasional treat, like once a month. Chicken & fish and beans for my protein the rest of the time.

Happy running/biking/swimming/resting everyone

Mailbox head - very impressive!
Jen - A triple! That's hot.

Rest day for me today, but I am posting tomorrow's workout now since I won't be around: skiing all day up at Mt. Sunapee! Woot!

Yes, I don't deny I still get cravings. After all, I am from Philly - home of the nation's best cheesesteak. But I just don't eat the stuff. My kids are vegetarian too. My poor husband the omnivore has to eat what I cook. Ha!

A very quick three miles for me this morning on the treadmill in 24:20. We were four minutes late to KINDERGARTEN this morning and had to check in at the front desk, where the meanest beast of an abrasive school secretary personality I've ever come across greeted us. Next time I'm going to jail because I won't let her talk to us in that manner. So it was nice knowin' ya. (I was too taken aback to do anything about it today). Some people shouldn't have to deal with the public if they're that miserable.

Take care out there people. Hey! Tomorrow is Y Day! The babysitting room! Hooray!

Better set the record straight here.

No double days for me right now- just 10 one time each day- nothing impressive going on there.

XC- I hate to hear that. I know you have some great fitness right now, and you hate to lose that, but this could be a good thing for you when all is said and done. After I ran my marathon last October, I wanted to just keep rolling because I knew I was in great shape. My body had other plans, and I had to suffer through some unimpressive months for a while there.
Now that I've had a chance to rest up a bit- I've been putting in more consistent mileage than ever and feeling great doing it. Maybe the injuries you've been getting lately are your body's way of asking for a break?

Hawk- enjoy the Wintry mix. Luckily it seems like that crap bypassed Ohio.

Revised my schedule and shooting for 6 easy miles after work. I'm glad I got my long run in yesterday because I sure didn't want to run in single digit temps over the weekend.

Wierd thing last night. I replyed to a post on the Race Calendar thread and got a whole bunch of errors in my browser after hitting submit... then there were multiple postings... sorry about that. I couldn't delete them so marked them as duplicates. Icing on the cake of a crappy day.

Morning all.

We don't eat a ton of meat. More of a meat in something, rather than meat as the main dish. With four boys, groceries are running about $125-150/week.

Mailbox--I'm quite to opposite. I have my standard routes, and I never change. I do the same with bicycling. There's a sense of security knowing my surroundings.

I had a hard time getting out of bed this morning. Workouts this week have sucked. Bike workout on TUesday was so bad--couldn't get HR up for anything--that I almost threw my garmin across the garage in frustration. Coach had me do a time trial this morning. I was afraid I was oging to 'fail' it, and didn't even wanna try. Alarm went off at 5:50, but I didn't get up until 7:30.

I did do the time trial. I can't get all the data from my garmin--need to call tech support later. Not sure what coach will do with the numbers. We had been using run VO2Max HR zone minus 10 to get bike zones. I asked my doctor about it--he did the run VO2Max on me. He said that his own bike/run zones are off by 30, not 10. So hopefully coach will reset HR zones so I have a fighting chance of getting into the HR zones coach wants. So, 45min of giving it all I got on the bike.

QUick change, then off for a run. Decent trot through my neighborhood. 2.5m route. 20:42, for a 8:20pace. I'll take it. I love, love, love running off the bike!

Alex - Have a good run later. What kind of game?

xc - Bummer. I know how frustrated you must be. Can you do a stationary bike or does that hurt your hip also?

mailbox - Good idea with the different routes. I've got a handful of routes to run and I'm bout sick of all of them

kfuller - Have good one.

jen - I love L&O also.

Richard - Enjoy the 10 in your winter wonderland.

flo - 4 degrees high? Ouch

Dave - I'll bet you're sore. That workout made me tired just reading about it.

Hawk - Hope you get yours in before the wintery mix hits.

Arrojo - Enjoy the rest day.

Ellen - I've met quite a few school secretaries like the one you describe over the years. Always wanted to drop kick them into the next county.

5 miles for me today. Felt pretty good during. Back's stiff now but no pain and the stiffness has only been lasting a couple of hours.

I eat a steak about every six weeks or so. My body seems to get a craving though I'm not much on eating meat. Always figure my body is telling me something I need to listen to.

Wow, I guess red meat is the topic of the day...

Everyone seems to be in the prime time of their training...deep into it. I feel terrible for those of you that are injured. I don't know what I would do if I were injured, probably kill myself. But seriously, Phillip and I were talking about this the other day and I think I know what I would do--just the same thing I did 2.5 years ago when I had a meniscus tear--the elliptical machine, every single day, at the same intensity as I run. I think that is why my VO2 Max is so high now. I would do it again if hurt because, well, it helped. I had to do it for 3 solid months, but by the time I went back to it I was completely fine to run. I love all you guys, and for you to be struggling with injuries really makes my heart for you.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Working from home today to get some stuff prepared for tomorrow. We are leaving, "on a jet plane," to Tennessee tomorrow afternoon for Phillip's sister's wedding, and I plan to go in to work in the morning, i.e. no time for any trip preparations tomorrow. Today I will be doing laundry, packing, and HOPEFULLY, if I have time, getting in my 20 mile run so that I don't have to worry about finding the time to do it this Saturday. I might as well do it here while I have both the time and the place (treadmill--yes, this means 2.5 hours on the treadmill Kfuller).

Everyone have a great day. Don't give the snow too much @#@%. It's only winter.

Tonya-- I congratulate you on your patience on the treadmill. Hope the run goes well and you don't get distracted and fall off.

XCRunner ... have you talked to a doctor at all? And I'm always recommending it, but how about Active Release? (covered on insurance if you have insurance that covers chiropractic care). Or even massage? Seems like you might have some things going on that need some attention from a "professional".

When I had to take 6 entire weeks off with no running, not a single step, due to a stress fracture, I thought I'd lose my freaking mind. I wasn't running 100 mile weeks, but had just run my first marathon and was feeling like queen of the world. So to have to just stop nearly killed me. I was able to bike & that was it. It was hell, I won't lie, I wasn't a biker, I was a runner. I was completely miserable and depressed.

But on the other side of it, now nearly 2 years later, I see that the time off did me more good than I realized. I became smarter about my body and about running. Those little nagging aches are telling you something and shouldn't be ignored. I know how hard this is for you because I've been there. But I promise, you WILL get better. Hopefully you can go see someone that helps make the healing process faster!

~~~
5 mile run on the treadmill, with an additional 1/4 mile warmup & the same cooldown (walk). Feeling good, looking forward to stretching it all out with some yoga later.
