Good Morning!

Out for a tempoish kind of run. The first half was hard, but got easier on the way home! 6.3 total.

Good morning Tempoish Pink!

5 very easy miles for me today at 9:40 pace. Just logging some miles and taking it easy after yesterday tough Tempoish workout. Still kinda jazzed by that one ...

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes yesterday. Happy anniversary to CNY and her Mister and to Mariposai on their 25 yrs. I had a terrific time at the Dylan/Mellencamp concert. It was an outdoor venue at our brand new minor league baseball stadium. We had a little lightning and a splash or two of rain and then the most beautiful evening. Lots of happy people and I smelled a few wafts of a very familiar substance swirling around us. I am pretty sure Bob Dylan sang "Happy Birthday" to me but I couldn't quite understand the lyrics. ;)

I was going to run this morning but after livin' large last night I decided to sleep in this morning. Enjoy your day doing whatever you choose to do.

Nice runs, Pink and Byll.

Yesterday was a perfect day for golf, Lab. Sounds like you nailed it. I have to wait until Sat.

I was so psyched to run today. I'm trying to be careful with this injury so after running Mon and Tues (total 9 miles) I took yesterday "off" and stayed on the elliptical and lifted some weights. But today, I was gonna do 6 miles. Imagine - all at once! It was grand! No pain, and zippy too. (I prolly shouldn't have run so fast.) 8:15 avg pace. And so far nothing is complaining. So I have that going for me.

Happy anniversary, Mariposai!

Enjoy the gift.

Dylan has really covered some ground on this tour. He was just here. Glad to hear you spent that $20 on your favorite herb, Choovie. Congrats on your anniversary, Mariposai!

Lifting this morning. Moving up to 15 lb. dumbbells was tougher than I thought. When I picked up an aluminum door at home to move it to the curb for big trash pickup, my left brachioradialis muscle was very unhappy with me. Yes, I had to google that.

Nada for me today -- I showed up at physical therapy this morning at 7:15 only to find out I didn't have an appt for today. D'oh! So I went into work early instead and continued work on that stoopid grant, which is due tomorrow.

Meetings, meetings, meetings today but I'm looking forward to having Saturday and Sunday off from work and being able to run and spin.

Howdy folks! 5.5 miles in the cool moistness today. My hat was drenched by the end even though it never actually rained. Having some recovery watermelon now, yum....

Might go back out to the park with my running partner in a while, we'll see. Massage on tap for the late afternoon, man I'm looking forward to that!

The September issue of my Club's newsletter contains an "Ask Spareribs" column. Here is one of the questions I replied to:

Dear Spareribs:

I often see you on your long runs wearing headphones. Don’t you worry that listening to the same songs over and over again will make you start speaking in song lyrics? I mean, you’re a pretty articulate guy and as your friend I’m afraid you’ll let people down.

Bob

Dear Bob:

You’ve got a lot of nerve to say you are my friend. When I was down you just stood there grinning. You say I’ve let you down. You know it’s not like that. If you’re so hurt, why then don’t you show it?

Good Afternoon, folks.

I'm still in non-running mode. Butt every day I see improvement. Today, I felt no symptoms at all really until I

jump out of the bed of a pickup truck (it was standing still) and I felt a solid twinge.

I'm going to run a mile on Saturday and maybe 3 miles downhill on Sunday if all goes well.

Checking in on so many KR threads now, I thought I posted my morning workout here but I did not. So I will.

6:00AM 15:00 of stretching followed by 50 pushups and about 3:00 of very painful core work. Man, the pushups just before the core - well, I guess pushups are core work - they are nasty. Not only to the core muscles, but the poor deltoids, too. (May I please have some cheese?)

12:30 PM I am following a half marathon program in training for my next two target races, which are a 7.1 mile hilly road race in October, and a relatively flat 15k road race in November. Today's workout was 2*2-miles at HM Pace. McMillan says my HM Pace is 7:16/mi, so I gave that a shot. Mile 1 was too fast so predictably Mile 2 was slower, and I finished in 14:30, pretty much right on the nose. On the second go-round, I did not allow myself more than the suggested recovery of a slow 800m jog- I probably should have rested just a bit more. Mile 1 was 7:26 and Mile 2 was 7:35 - falling well off pace.

Total of 6 miles including 1mi warmup, 4 miles at HM Pace, 800m recovery, and 800m cool down.

6mi ez at lunch, 8:15, 100f.

i realized that we're all slowly turning ourselves inside-out. have had some blistered skin on my right foot during the past two days... but couldn't remember getting a blister there. then today i remembered getting some deep feeling blistery stuff there back in june when running on the beach... 8 weeks ago. so experimentally i conclude that the skin on my foot completely replaces itself every 8 weeks.

I would tell you, Susan, but I'm not old enough yet, so they don't let me in. Plus, I think you have to be running 50 miles/week to qualify.

My running partner wanted to try out the course for a local 5k she's planning on running on Labor Day. I agreed to run it with her TODAY, but gave no commitment for the actual race. So anyway, back out into the wet I went this afternoon. The route was kinda hilly and my hamstring wasn't the happiest camper at the end. Had I known there were hills I might've begged off. Regardless, now that I'm back from my massage, all affected body parts are feeling mighty fine.

So yeah, another 3.5 miles this afternoon. Tomorrow morning I have a yoga-date with a friend, so it'll be good to rest a bit.

It dawned on me today, after choovie's birthday yesterday, that there are going to be four of us turning 50 next year all within a month of each other: Dove, choovie, Opie, and myself. We may need to plan some sort of gala-extravaganza-thingy...

6 miles this evening, including 5 x 800m intervals at 6:00/mi pace with a 3:00 jog. And one mile barefoot. I am getting closer to race shape, so I may have to find one after HTC. If I survive.
