Wet, sloppy snow this morning, so I took it to the gym. 7.10 miles on the treadmill in 60:00. 3.5 of those miles were done at tempo pace (7:50).

At the risk of spamming the daily thread, I'm copying a seperate post and plea here:

I'm preparing a talk to give at the American Academy of Dermatology
next year, on the topic of skin care for outdoor athletes. Topics
include the treatment and prevention of: abrasions (road
rash/chafing), folliculitis, heat rash, sunburn, frostbite,
contusions/bruises/talon noir, blisters, subungual hematomas (bruises
under toenails) or lost toenails, insect bite reactions/stings.

Of course, the more photos the better, and the gorier, the better.
It's an early morning session, and I have to hold their attention.
If anyone has any great photos to send along, it would be much
appreciated! I would certainly ensure that no one is identifiable in
the images.

The talk is many, many months away, so even though I hope none of you
have the opportunity to do so, if you DO happen to have any of the
above injuries, snap a photo and send it along to me.

My email addy is rtravers at yahoo dot com.

Thanks a bunch!

--Robin

P.S. The Napa Valley Marathon is on March 1, 2009, and the AAD meeting I mention above is March 3-7 in San Francisco. The timing works out perfectly for me to go, run my race, and then go give a talk!

6 recovery paced miles at 9:28 min/mile pace. The legs were a bit tired from yesterday's negative split MLR I ran.

I can't seem to run much slower than that anymore though I am trying to. That'll change in a hurry when the H&H comes back though. I may need to walk a few steps every now and again ...

Dr. Dale keeps telling me to slow down those recovery runs. Don't tell him anyone. Maybe he won't notice because he's at the Red Sox Fantasy Camp all this week on the west coast of Fla.

Good Morning All!

Sloppy and slippery out this morning, so I did 6 on the TM - 48:03 (8:01 pace) with some fartleks thrown in. And since I was in the gym, followed that up with some weight training.

Congrats to Econo for being rated! I am in awe.

Happy trails Kicksters,

Announcement: Pie Jones is annoying me. Still, I'm delighted he's going for a run. Want to hear all about it.
Aw, Drom, it takes a lot more than spam sushi to offend me, say, for instance, Larry's offer of a jock itch pic. Whoa, Larry. Just keep the snow and wildlife pics coming.
(((choovie))) You don't have to make up for a couple of days' slacking all in one day. Easy, girl.
Congrats to Susan and rasmussenmp (Mike) for the VRAA win! I'm glad Team L didn't finish Last. Still don't know what has happened to our captain.
JJJ, yes, you guessed correctly. Just in pondering stages.
evan, Nahanni is one of those places I must visit. Just wondered if you'd been there, although it's a bit of a hike from where you are.
gin, terrific running! Wow!

Just a strength session in the gym for me today. Ho hum.

But the snowdrops are up and daffs pushing through the earth. My seeds are on the way and I have had success so far with celery seeds (not an easy task). Saw Bill, my friend who tripped while we were running. He did go to the doc and has a nasty pec bruise, but otherwise okay. He wants to go again.

ETA: How did my post end up here? Twilight Zone.

Hello to all, as of today my self imposed month break from running is halfway over. Unfortunately, my foot doesn't feel any better yet. I'm hoping I can have a quick recovery this upcoming week, and then, like Roch, have a pain free week before resuming running.

No pool running today. Too busy work wise. Tomorrow I'll schedule a big day at the gym, incorporating my special personalized SS pool running workouts.

When's the radio station broadcasting from your son's school Tamster, and are you going to be at CNW tomorrow??

Hey choovie, did anyone ever tell you that running wimmens in mismatched attire with strands of hair poking out all directions from under their hot pink polar fleece hats are HAWT!!!!! Those Ali McBeal types probably couldn't even begin to keep up with you anyways, but, if you still need one, here tis................. {{{{choovie}}}}

Good Morning kicksters! Another snowy morning on the Bitterroot. Setting next to a warm fire. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

I have a bad case of jock itch right now, should I send a picture? The photo of the compound fracture looked pretty nasty and it hurt just looking at it.

A wintery scene from my snowshoe experience yestarday.

Trail name is Homestead Lane, connects Hayse Creek loop, to Brownjug loop. All part of a great trail and forest road system accessable from my front door. Good runs all, Larry

No running for me till my stitches come out, so I did 20 mins walking and 20 mins elliptical, and then some upper body weight-work this morning.

If all goes well, I may try a slow jog on Sunday. Surely that can't be much harder on my body than speed-walking.

Stitches don't hurt anymore, thankfully, and it appears to be healing already.

Congrats to Econo!!!!!!

Morning Kickstermeisters!

No run for me today, but did get in a good 6 mile run on the TM last night. The last two miles I picked it up a few notches and ran around a 8:40 ish min/mile. Still ended up taking 60 min to complete the run though because I started out with a few min of walking and then a slower pace.

Robin - I don't have photos to share, but just wanted to mention to you that I'm taking my son to a derm in a few wks. I was glad they could get us in quickly and were able to get him in on a day when school was closed. He has had a light brown colored mole on his neck for several years. No biggie, as I have several body moles too, just hereditary I guess. But this one is now turning dark brown in one small part of it. It hasn't extended beyond the edges of the original mole though, so I'm not sure if the pigment is just changing or what. Some of my body moles are darker brown too. Anyways, we are having it checked out, but would be interested in your comment on whether that is often a fairly normal thing - that a mole becomes darker like that?

My son was bubbling over with excitement yesterday because a few wks ago he nominated his teacher for Teacher of the Month with a local radio station and they selected his nomination form. The class gets a pizza party, they receive $300 to use for whatever they'd like - supplies, resources, field trip, etc. and the radio station comes out to their classroom and is "on the air". The entire class was SO jazzed about the pizza party!

Runsthebitterrot - awesome pic. I love winter so much!

Did 6 slow miles at lunch today in steady snowfall. Temp was around 32 degrees. The snow on the trees was so beautiful. Was worried about my ankle - it hurt last night and all morning, so I was concerned about the run. ABout 1/2 mile into it, it stopped hurtig and is fine now. Very strange, but I'll take it. Will ice it just to be sure.

I seem to be having difficulty posting in the evening, so I'll be on a "one-day delay" here... Last night's run was going to be 8 miles, but I set the treadmill for 75 minutes and just went with it so got 8.6, first 4 EZ, next three at 8:34, last 1.6 EZ. Went through all of solarmix 6 and a little bit of 8. I really need to get a TV for down there. I have a window looking south at the neighbor's house and town beyond. But at night, all I really get is my reflection. There's only so long I can make faces and flex muscles and play with "proper form" till I totally bore myself.

Cold snap continues... it's been at least -45 every morning this week. I'm starting to be glad my car is at the shop, but our pickup is getting tired of being the only pony in the show. Our neighbor called this morning to say her husband "got stomped by a moose" when he went out with the dogs... she wanted to be sure we gave the kids rides to the bus stop. Hope he's ok.... the moose get pretty cranky at these temps.

Robin, I got a bit of frostbite on my nose last Sunday where my face mask froze to my nose. Not much for a picture, but I thought it was odd to get frostbite on a covered up area! I've also had some lovely oozing chafe marks under my running bra strap, but I don't do long runs in that thing anymore. Again, no pics.

Larry, that looks like the trail I do my long downhill trail runs on... but we don't have anywhere near as much snow as that, and the trail is pretty well packed down from skiers, snowshoers and such.

Arrojo... wish I could send you some winter. I've had just about enough of mine...

35-40* and overcast.
I over-heated slightly on the elliptical so it felt chilly when I stepped outside. Walked a half mile, easy pace for three, then did 6x800 @ 10k pace w/ 200m recovery, cooled down for a total of 9, plus a mile walk.

I'm so thankful
for endorphins
Good pic, Gordon. You've come a long way baby!

Decided to bust out of my slacker mode with a run this morning but I think I should've stayed in bed.

30 degrees
35 mph wind gusts

Mile 2: Entertained the idea of calling dad to see if he'd pick me up and drive me home. Just didn't feel very good.

Mile 4: Took some gel to see if that would pep me up.

Mile 6: Massive stomach revolt.

Decisions, decisions. Do I drop my tights in this cold wind or dash across yonder parking lot to use the loo at the City Brew. I opted for the later. I ran hard across the lot, flung open the door (which hung open in the wind), dashed past the barista and a large group of women dressed in Ally McBeal professional attire and apparently participating in some kind of meeting. I made it to the loo just in time and started to weep while washing my hands. It just wasn't my day. Once again, I thought about calling dad but decided to just get home -- only 2 miles to go.

I looked in the mirror and noticed how awful I looked. None of my clothes matched and my cheeks were bright red from the chilly wind and now tear-streaked. Strands of my brunette hair poked out at odd angles from beneath my hot pink polar fleece hat. I looked like a homeless person and quite the opposite from the Ally McBeal's I would have to pass by a second time on the way out.

Ah well, I decided to suck it up and hold my head high as I walked past them at a much calmer rate this time. As I went by, I heard a "Hi C." I turned to look and seated amongst the women was an old flame from high school. I suppose he was their guest speaker or something. I stopped to talk and he asked me if I was okay -- did I need a ride home or something? Cripes. Could the day get any worse? I politely declined, inquired about the family and then went on my merry way. At least this direction the wind felt like a hand pushing me home.

Hard yoga tonight.

[ETA Larry, nice pic. Send some of that snow to Yellowstone this weekend]
