Morning all...

Been so busy at work, but with a good project--we are doing a big event of trying to raise prevention and awareness about Ending Violence Against College Women. I've had little time to run this week, but the last few days have MADE the time or I let stress get to me.

The good news is that our project is making a big impact--we are getting a reaction and the students are very involved. The focus is getting young men on board to take a stand.

The bad news? I sometimes feel like I'm in the 1950's again. You said what? Part of our exercises should have focused on telling women not to wear short skirts for attention? Oy.

4 miles last night--VERY late.

6 miles with some tempo thrown in sometime today

I did read through the thread--SO glad to see you out there, Solar! Nice work, Theia--glad your bday went well, Tim and feeling better, Tim!

Good luck with the project, Crane.

I had a pretty nice run last night. I'm still a wee bit congested -- I just can't fully shake this darn thing. But it didn't really hinder me. I kept it slow, and it was fine. I did a little over 6 miles on the hills.

I haven't decided what I'll do today. I think I'll hit the gym after work for some lifting. If time permits, I may jump on the TM for a few minutes, but I also won't object to a day off...

Sounds like an exciting project crane. Hope you can get out for stress-relieving tempo miles today.

Hi Bob. I think that congestion is going around. Glad you were able to get out for a run.

I had a momentary panic (not truly a panic, more like where the He*! is my watch) this morning and it turns out DD was playing "running" and had my watch in her room. So, I ran my tempo by feel and with my stopwatch. Splits were pretty darn good for not knowing my pace and just running by gut.

Hope you guys have a great day.

I slept pretty poorly last night. I was either freezing or sweating - I think I need to adjust the number and type of blankets on my bed. Oy. It didn't help there were crazy police sirens going off for about 15 minutes straight at 2:30 am. I was awake at 5, but decided to sleep in. I may run 5 easy tonight.

I got in an extra mile or two last night at Girls on the Run. It was SUPAH windy and rainy and we really had to push the girls to get over it and run and have fun. In the end, they had a good time.

Greetings, all.

4M on the hamster wheel this AM. Am tempted to get another few this afternoon, but I'm trying to give an honest taper for the HM on the 30th, so ... /shrug. I dunno.

I was BEAT last night when I got home. I haven't had a 'true' day off from working out where I don't cross-train or walk, where I just sit still since last Thursday, so I decided to listen to my body and just veg. Tonight I'll do what I was supposed to do yesterday, 1 mile run // 60 min elliptical // 1 mile run

Jill - I am in FULL panic mode because I'm entering day 3 without my watch and it's killing me! I feel the physical need to puke at the thought of putting out the $$ to buy a new one. It's sad how dependant I've become of it. I can run without the tunes, but I'm lost without my watch.

Nice work, people! Inspiring, as always.

RIL, hope you can get the temperature issues worked out. I have learned that I need it to be C O O L when I sleep. (Not that I sleep well when the room is cool. I just sleep less suckily.)

Ailarie, enjoy the taper. Embrace the taper. Be the taper.

I decided to forego my easy run last night in favor of some quality time with a heating pad. My back still hurts, but it's not as bad this morning. I have another chiro appointment tomorrow. And mile repeats tonight. Egad do I hate mile repeats.

Happy Thursday, all.

Ailarie- taper.

Novia, it is hard to give up the watch. I've been working on this for the past year. I am finally at a point where I no longer feel lost without it.

Theia, what sort of training schedule are you on? Tons of speedwork ... what is on your horizon?

Thought about going for a run this morning but decided one more morning off would be okay. The muscle soreness in my quads finally went away yesterday.

Butt tape, core work, 3 miles by myself – perfectly timed to miss Aunt Linda picking up some stuff from Dh, and then ran @1.25 with Gus, to see where he is. It's finally cool enough that I'm not concerned about him having a heart attack. Happy happy dog.

Dh spent an hour walking on the tm this morning.

I almost never run with a watch. I frequently forget to wear one to races, and even when I do, I usually forget to look at it.

Morning Gang -

Nice workouts so far this morning Jill and Ailarie and Katholeenie. I got 7 miles done with a bunch of strides mixed in. The strides were the first speedy stuff since TCM. Felt good.

What's the verdict on a spring meet up? I need something on my schedule! I was this close to signing up for a winter marathon (miami) yesterday, but decided I couldn't justify the $$$, time away from family for travel, and that speed and long runs in our crazy MN weather for training would suck too bad - so I didn't. I'd like to do one early April, so that I could also do Grandma's. Someone pick one and sign up. Others will follow!

Good runs and rests to all today!

Huh whaaaa? I mean, THANK YOU for such a great compliment, but I have no idea what I did to inspire you.

Good job, Cindi! about the watch, Kath. I can totally see you at mile 4 of a HM like, "Oh, oops, I forgot to look..."

hey kids,

novia - i second/third the sans watch running. i almost always wear my watch but rarely look at it while running. i'll hit the lap/split at certain landmarks during my runs so i can maybe do some simple math when i get back, checking pace, but otherwise i don't look at it until i'm done. use your internal gps!

my knee hasn't been very friendly recently. i ran 3+ mi mostly on trail on tuesday (ran out of time between meetings) and took an unscheduled day off yesterday to try and get the swelling down. i woke up y'day and not only had swelling but some pain (a new symptom) so pounding the pavement wasn't in the cards. i think my workout last thursday (including a few hammy curls) aggravated my baker's cyst. really sucks if i can't do hammy curls as part of my strength circuit - as infrequent as it is. i went to the gym y'day and had changed into my speedo but the pool was full of navy special ops wannabes or other swimmers. no time to wait so i had to split. hope to hit the pool for some laps today...we'll see what happens.

KP, congrats again on #2. nice report.

happy belated bday Theia.

Theia, you ran a 5k at a 7:30 pace (or something like that) and I was an 8:00 pace (at best) 5k-er at that time. I remember when you ran that and you were so excited about it. I said to myself, "I wish I could do that" and had serious doubts that I could. That is when I started asking some of my fast local friends if they thought I could get faster and one of them began coaching me. You were totally my inspiration.

I started doing this after TCM (wearing watch but not looking at it during run, only after) and my paces have been consistently faster. Like around what I considered to be goal MP. It's weird because it doesn't feel like MP effort - it feels easy and good. Whereas pre-TCM when the schedule called for an easy run, and I would look down at the watch and see myself under 8:45 pace, I would tell myself, "uh-oh, you better slow down" and I would force myself to slow down. I'm still not sure if it's because I'm not paying attention to the watch, or if it's because my mileage is so light now that I'm way more fresh so able to go faster.

((((2oh's unfriendly knee))))

(((2oh's quads))) not because they are hurt, just because they are hot.
