It's now after 12:01 AM Friday someplace. (I think. I'm not sure. The daylight saving thing confuses me. But we're close.)

As such... Let Thor's Virtual Stag Run commence!!!

The real race will begin tomorrow and we'd love to have you join in! But if you can't, get some miles (and beverages) wherever you are and record them here!

Let's review the rules...

National anthem (or something similar) and (at least imaginary) fly-over are requested before you begin.

All miles (and beverages) accumulated from 12:00:01 AM on Friday, March 21, 2008 (being the day of the pre-race course tour and product expo) and 11:59:59 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2008 (being the day of post race stiffness and potential hangover), shall be legal for submission to the Virtual Stag Run totals.

You may choose the time zone (GMT, CET, EDT, Miller Time, Springtime, Ragtime, Outatime, Overtime, etc.) that you find most accommodating.

Any means of non-motorized conveyance (run, bike, swim, ski, handcycle, moonwalk, hokey pokey, zip wire, kayak, etc.) shall be deemed acceptable.

Irish Red Ale is the recommended beer theme but... Just about any adult or adult-wannabe beverage counts. (Red Biciclette and any drink with "Spritzer" in the name are excluded, for obvious reasons.)

That enough rules. Go have some fun in Thor's name and tell us about it!!!!!!!!!

And lest we forget, this is also a roast.

All us old married folk (or not) should also post words of wisdom (or not) to our very own Ironboy.

You guys so rock!

I am SO EXCITED about tomorrow's Stag Run...

Few pointers...

o STAG RUN GRAPHIC - That graphic is the bib number! Really. Early this week the Ironmate said to me, "hey, if I get time I'm going to make a running bib for the Stag Run." No way. Way! She did. And that was it. Of course, I had to give her feed back on LRR's new name so that should could properly insert: "Hosted by Lord John the Oven Stuffer."

o BAF NATIONAL ANTHEM - There WILL be a National Anthem, albeit an abrieviated version, and there also will be a... drum roll please... a Big Ass Flag, as in a Big Ass American Flag. For those in other countries (that means you, Neil, der Kaiser, bccBradley, Ella, PistolPete, Flip, BikerGrl, SillyGirlSally, et al) you can use your own country flag and sing your true anthem, but we will have on for you, so when you sing your canned version, face toward the Boston area. And for those of you in the Boston area, so that you're not facing the wrong way, face toward North of Boston or, better yet, North Reading!

o FLYOVER - Urban legend has it that there will be a flyover. And it might very well be an Air Canada jetliner. Look high in the sky, you will see it.

as I miscalculated my timings for going to the airport tomorrow I decided to do my 10 miler this morning - so up to a very windy day - put my running kit on and stepped outside . Faced approximately towards Boston and belted out IRELANDS CALL (not the official national anthem but rather the Rugby anthem that is used to unite both part of the country)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=PKIy-RAbS_4&feature=related

Then I actually had a fly past - my proximity to Gatwick airport means that this is always a possibility - A Virgin Atlantic 747

Then off on my 10 miles - Out in 51 back in 48 for a nice negative split - I know that it is slow but its my normal long run pace
Back home and as I finished off coming into my drive a salute again towards the west towards Boston and Thor

Good luck buddy both tomorrow and for the next week and the rest of your life - If you approach marrige in the same way that you have approached Triathlon and running You and Heather will be very happy

I did the first and last legs this morning. My usual 10 mile route plus 2.2 added to the end. It's not even 9am here, so no beers yet. I could be coerced into popping open a brew and watching basketball this afternoon once all my errands are done.

I thought of you, Thor (and you too, LRR-what a good friend you are!), this morning on my 6.5 mile run. It was a beautiful morning with a big yellow full moon setting to the west and a nice sunrise. I think the flyover here was the local traffic helicopter.

Meanwhile... off to a local brewpub with some friends tonight.. will track down an Irish red or something reasonably close and let you know.

So there you go... my first "installment"... Have fun tomorrow - no doubt you will all have a great time!

Yay!

Tithers and Stitcher did their pledges of miles together.
And, truly, Tither's a great hostess.....even took Stitcher to dinner with a TOTAL HOTTIE (a.k.a her "Mexican Twin" <-- more on that later l

So....

FIRST, we did our National Anthem. Don't know if we were facing Boston, or not....but, we were accompanied by quite the highly paid (albeit short) choir. They were a tough sell, but agreed to sing for smiley face stickers. (the ones with the bows and bow ties were uber popular).

Then......

We had a great time learning things in the pool....with wetsuits. For those of you who commented on the "Am I dumb..." thread......NOPE...we're not dumb. We'd have frozen all the important bits off, and had to drive for an hour-ish to do it....so, the pool was a muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better idea.

Tithers learned that you can't do flip turns while laughing.
Stitcher learned that watching Tithers learn flip turns causes laughing.

She will say this, though....T-girl can do a nice flip turn now.....she just has to keep doing them so her muscle memory doesn't go away. Sheldon....she BLEW OUT OF HER NOSE!!! The bubbles were seen floating to the top of the water! It was maaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhvelous, baby!

Stitcher learned that the true art of contortionism is found in the donning of a wetsuit. And, that silicone spray is your friend. Her ass was in the air much more than she was planning, but the swim was SMOKIN' fast. Although, kicking in that thing is a bit much for her legs. So, alas....... the wetsuit will likely stay home for the first tri. The time it would take to get in/out of it (especially getting the top part over her hips) would be longer than the time the swim would take. But, it was a fun exercise.

Then....BREAKFAST. At that evil place....Panera. Tithers was worried about being allowed to eat in Stitcher's car. PUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZ. That is soooo not a problem.

Back to the house for the SUPER DUPER SECRET transition clinic. Oh....BTW....don't think Stitcher doesn't know WHOSE idea it was for Tithers to hide the shoes ..... and glasses......and, maybe even to get the wind to blow over the bike!! Don't forget...... She knows your address.

The first one....according to Tithers....."That was really slow, ya know." WOw....YA THINK???? It may have had something to do with the collapsing bucket/seat. Truly....it was a pretty embarrassing thing....the hottie neighbor (who's getting married)....HAD to have seen it. ACK! Tither's solution? "Buy a bigger bucket!!"
Each one got better, though, and the process was educational.

Finally.....the pinnacle of the day......
THE LONG RUN

Tithers had 1:20 on her schedule......Stitcher had 1:15. Tithers did what she was told. Stitcher over achieved.

Tithers makes a great rabbit! The two finished a 6.6 mile out/back route in a little over 1:20. Unfortunately......the scenery was a bit blah. Lots of garbage....several beer bottles....a used needle...some couch cushions. But, no porn. Stitcher was quite sad. (Hottie neighbor had gone back in the house by the time the run was over. Stitcher was quite sad again.)

So totals for the two SUPA HAWT CHICKS in transition:

1 National Anthem
500 yds swimming
.3 miles of transition activities
6.6 miles of running (Tithers was a good sport and slowed her pace so as not to leave Stitcher in the dust)

TIMES 2!

Looks like Ironboy is getting a little cocky at not getting roasted...See here.

The first salvo has been fired by Reg in the avatar thread and I'm a little too annoyed with work at the moment to be terribly witty. But it's Friday afternoon, let's get roastin'!

Left work an hour early (FYI – I work on the Navy base in Newport, RI as a DoD contractor and am retired from the Navy). Headed over to the base pool for the 3pm-6pm lap swim session. Before entering the pool I faced Boston and hummed Sweet Caroline (OK, it’s kind of a queer song but it’s significant in Red Sox Nation. Maybe I should have hummed Tessie instead). Anyway, as I was humming, a C-130 from the Rhode Island Air Guard flew over heading to their base at Quonset Point, RI. Once in the water I figured that it had been a couple weeks since I did a good speed/interval workout in the pool. So, I decided on my “quarter-mile warm up, 17x100 on 2-minutes, quarter-mile cool down” workout. Total pool distance 1.5 miles. On the way home I passed the Navy base liquor store. The sign outside said “Harpoon Brewery Tasting Today.” I planned on stopping in to pick up weekend supplies anyway. Ended up buying a Harpoon variety 12-pack just to get the two Harpoon Darks (not sold in six packs anymore). Also got a 12-pack of Narragansett…my late-night beer. At home I ordered Chinese. Am drinking the beer now. Food should arrive imminently. Gonzaga lost. NCAA bracket screwed! Will try for 40-50 mile bike ride tomorrow.

Dan
