This is a letter we received from a school teacher trying to raise money for school programs.

Hello,

I wanted to briefly explain what the Partners In Education program is all about. What the school tries to do is to partner with a corporation that adopts our school and helps our school out during the year. From the corporation we would ask for time and our money to either buy supplies that the school needs. The company can provide the funds for the school to do so or they can provide the items that we need.

What the school does for the corporations is to provide them exposure on our website, in our school newsletter and on display in our front office. We can also work out other arrangements for the corporations if they would like something that our kids and or teachers can provide to them. In this case it would be something that we would sit and discuss in details. An example of that would be; that our school could send out chorus group to their place of business to perform for there employees or customers.

It's a great way to give back to the community and for partnering up with the school, the business also gets a plaque sent to them from the district county school board, that they can display at there place of business.

If you have a business in mind, please forward them this information. From that point on they can contact me at my email address above and I can provide them with more written detailed information if they would need that.

Thanks, again for your interest.
Dear Snooze.
You live in Florida. The State's Education budget is so small they can't afford good grammerz and stuff. My advice: don't have kids there.

Not sure where to begin. My principal requires all parent letters sent home to be approved by her for that very reason.... (she is very good with grammar!)

and this brings me to an interesting topic on grammar...apparently..."ebonics" is starting to be recognized as a dialect of african origin and not improper grammar...

So is "hillbilly" going to be considered a dialect of Cockney???

I would recommend reading up a bit more and educating yourself before you presume "proper" or "improper".

What the establishment considers "proper" speech doesn't necessarily make a given dialect any more complex or worthy than any of the hundreds of others spoken in our country. Class, power, money and racism play into our opinions on certain types of speech and our notions of the IQ/intelligence/education level of those speaking it.

What's kinda funny is that a good part of my job is proofreading stuff that goes out from the school.

I have proofed a half dozen items already today and I was quickly skimming this one on the screen and barely noticed that it seems to be marginally English.

I'm thinking I better go back and have a closer look at the ones in my "out" tray.

...I have a terrible time proofreading from a screen. I can miss the mos obveeus misteakks so I always print out a hard copy. Anyone else have that problem or is it my left brain??
