The Peachtree Road Race went to a lottery system this year. They allow 60,000 runners in. The 60,000 limit was just barely exceeded but guess who was one of the "rejections".

So, guess I'll go find something else to run locally on July 4th weekend.

97% of all lottery entrants got into the PRR. It also appears all groups got in so had I registered along with someone else I would have made it.

I swear if the Mega Jackpot was sitting at $300 million and 60,000 people would win that jackpot (each), my lottery ticket would be the 60,001 drawn.

Oh well, I'm looking for other July 4th races now. Braselton has a race July 4th 5k race so maybe I'll do that one and start a new tradition.

I am sure you can get a charity spot if you are interested in that.

Yes, that's one of the options they offered me. For a mere $150.00 "donation" to their kids campaign I can get in ($117.00 of that is deductible on your income taxes, though). There is also an upcoming number transfer system coming up in April where people who decide they wish to transfer their numbers to someone can make those arrangements. I'm sure that would be probably as expensive as the charity donation.

Of course, I'm sure I'll be able to find entries on Ebay too in a couple of weeks if not already.

I'm pretty certain the City of Duluth as well as Braselton both have a 4th of July weekend road race. I'm happy with either of them.

ETA: One other possibility. If I have run 10 PRR's I can apply for an exception and get in. I know I've ran 7 to 8, I'm not sure about 10 because until last year they only timed runners in Time Groups A and B, roughly about 2000 runners out of the 55,000 total field.

And it appears the ATC is trying to mimick the NYC track club. Since I failed to get in this year, if I was to enter the lottery the next two years and fail to get in I would have an automatic entry into the 2014 PRR. Currently the ATC does not charge to enter the lottery as NYC does, but I bet that's coming.

Make a long story short, I don't have the patience for lottery systems. I'll find another local race and be satisfied with them. There will apparently not be a shortage of entrants to take my place of no longer running the Peachtree.

I have 4 PBR's so if you'd like to borrow mine to make 10 feel free.

Oh wait...I think in 2 of them I ran with someone else's number....given to me when they were going to be out of town. Does that make me a bad person? They were in the 80's so perhaps the "bad person statute of limitations" might be invoked.

After all my snarkiness over the lottery, I might indeed pay the fools the $150.00 for a charity entry. Not only can I deduct $117 from my taxes, they put me in Corral C, which is a higher corral than I would have gotten in anyway. So I might kiss their proverbial derriere for the privilege.
