Shoot, sorry, I sent above accidentally!
You guys are going to LOVE this!

I was passed along the link for a fascinating Judge Judy segment on YouTube. It's a "classic" legal struggle between cyclist who was injured and a couple whose dog got loose. Most interesting is the attitude of the couple that the cyclist had it coming for being crazy enough to actually ride on a road. The wife thought it was relevant that the cyclist lived forty miles away. See this interesting and socially-sobering tussle at : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p12x52UzJsc

It was obviously the cyclist's fault as "he had no business riding his bike 35 miles from his home".

God bless rural America!
OMG, that was just too funny. Can someone really be that stupid??? I hate freaking dogs while I am riding. I had to change my regular riding route which was perfect and I loved so much because I got chased in a ditch twice.

Thanks for the good afternoon laugh CC.
I couldn't get the whole thing to play in the hotel.
Have to wait till I get home to see it.

did the dog owners have to pay?

From what I could see, the injured guy seemed pretty reasonable.
JJ wasn't playing any games. She charged them 3k.

The pics of the rider were good, he had the typical biker tan.

While the clip is pretty funny to watch, you're right that it's also sobering - that person probably isn't alone in thinking that the cyclist was responsible for the accident because he was riding on the road. That kind of thinking seems a lot more wide-spread than just this one couple!

I HATE when I get honked at...scares the bejeezus out of me. On day I'm afraid someone will honk and I'll get freaked and crash. I have yet to have a crash/fallover with Mikey.

Last week when I was riding someone honked at me. Dixie came out of his horn. Only. In. Georgia.
I was on a back road the other day and had someone honk at me and scared me to death . I actually ran off the road. I am thankful I was not in the aero bars at the time. Who knows how I would have ended up.
I have a co-worker that feels very strongly that cyclists should have to "pay taxes for using the roads." 99% of the time I get along great with her, but when this topic comes up I really really don't like her.
I don't get it...extra taxes? She is aware that we already pay taxes to use the roads She thinks roads are just for cars, bikes = extra taxes?

I would imagine it's not worth it to argue with people such as your coworker, or the defendents in the video. I'm not sure they'll ever get it.
I would not have a problem with it, but I think the collection would end up costing more than the revenues generated, especially given the large numbers of children using the roads on bikes. In our state, many of the taxes used for roads are levied on cyclists through sales and property taxes. It really underscores how many people, especially stupid ones, equate fair treatment with equal treatment and feel unjustly treated if they perceive someone getting an advantage.
