Last night in choir....one of the "odder" gentlemen said that he needed to "speak to me" after rehearsal. He's not one of the folks that I regularly stay all caught up with...so it was a bit wierd.

Anyway....
He gives me this bag of stuff that he wants me to try. Energy drinks (XS...anyone heard of it?).... capsules of things.....tubes of stuff that you mix with water.

lol

He was part of a conversation I'd had with someone else where I was telling what I was doing this coming year....and he wants my "reaction as an athlete." wow.

That's the first time someone who's not one of my coaches, or one of my friends who are coaches has EVER referred to me as an athlete. Kinda nice.

I told him that I'd try the stuff, to see what I thought. I looked at it last night, though, and some of the flavors have names that might not work for me. we'll see.

Stitch- I have had a hard time considering myself an athlete. I used to be one but didn't think I could be one again. I get that warm and fuzzy feeling when someone calls me an athlete- cuz I am one!!!! And so are you!

I have never had someone give me energy drinks, but there is a nurse here at work that always makes me homemade cookies the week of my race. She says that since it's my race week, I can afford to splurge.

Stitcher - The energy drink XS is distributed by a company named Quixtar, formerly named Amway. I have had the drink and it isn't bad, it is actually heathier than some of the brands that are on the market now and any convenience store.

If you go to www.Quixtar.com you can get information on all of the stuff he gave you if you are interested.

Just be advised he will probably try and pull you into "the business" (Amway).

Hope this helps.

Ooohhhhh.....
I did ask him if he was selling it or something.

He said, "yes, but that's not the point. I just want your reaction."

lol

Thanks for the insider tip.

Yeah.....
it's neat when someone else "gets it" ....even if you yourself don't.

No one makes me cookies!
But then....I ALWAYS have steak for dinner AFTER the race if it's longr than 10K.

I can taste the baked potato now!
That's funny........I'll never forget the day when one of my master swim buddies introduced me to someone as "this is Julie, she is a triathlete"..............also, the first time CS said to me, "I have my athletes........".....I was like, wow, am I really an athlete?

Yeah....
it's almost as if there is a group of people in a room, and someone says, "all the athletes come here and do so and so...."
and everyone but me goes over.
Then, EVERYONE turns and stares....like, "WTH aren't you over here too?"

Cool stuff, Stitch, and yes, you ARE an athlete.

The exact reverse has happened to me. I am a part of a certain message board. It's pretty awesome. I've become friends with a lot of the people there. There's this one triathlete in particular who insists he's not a triathlete just because he has a bum knee and hasn't been able to ride his bike much. I just laugh because, well, he is a triathlete through and through, and he's damn talented and hard working, too. I know this lad is a bit down on himself, and I would be too if I were in his shoes, but he'll come around and look back at this period as a good rest for the triathlete that he is.

Well....
I'll be reporting on the "trials" of the stuff.

Some of the drinks have bubbles...so I'm not so sure I'd want them right away after a workout or anything....and, since I'm doing the "no soda" thing since New Years....I wonder if the bubbles will be a big temptation.

Hope not.

There are what look like capsules filled with dried grass, too. I'm lookin' at those puppies a little bit sideways, lemme tell ya!

Back when I was a triathlete I'd have probably understood.

This reminds me of the scene in Wedding Crashers (love that movie) where Jeremy says to the Bobbaganoosh "I'm sick of your go##amn negativity, I don't need it!" Except in Thor's case, I just want to yell, "I'm sick of your damn positivity!!!" Please don't take a turn to Positive Town.
