ok, yes i ran a race....you'll see why i don't run often. I ran this race for a few reasons, i expected a low turnout for this event due to the Atlanta Track clubs race at Stone Mtn and the Heartwalk was also the same day. finally i ran it out of a sense of obligation since it was my suggestion was selected for the race's name. The race is in conjuntion with Cabbage Towns' Stomp and Chomp chili Cook Off Festival.

so i wkae up and decided to get there a little closer to race time than i did last year, an hour before the race. i cut it close this year....no warm up except the 5 mile bike ride there. i think i had 3 minutes after getting my race number pinned on before the gun went off. I ran into a few Hasher buddies who figured i was confused. They decided to inform me that this was not a skating race.

so mile one i run with no plan at all in mind. the cource runs thru the neighborhood and even bactracks on itself a few times. on the road is a chalk line stating 1 MILE. ok great, i'm about 8 minutes. i decide to pick up the pace some. mile two and the familir pain in my left knee starts up. i counter this by running backwards on downhills so that i don't have to extend the knee fully. by mile 2.5 the knee is killing me. this course has a ton of downhills and every stride increases the left knee pain. i start to over compensate using the right leg for long strides and barely letting the left foot get ahead of me.
mile 3. i feel like an internet joke mail about chili cook-offs and how every step is more painful than the previous and even had to resort to running backwards on the infrequent flats as well as downhills. unfortunately the race finishes downhill and i can't enter the chute backwards so i run as fast as i can and basically tear the knee up more.

the final time was 24:10 not my best time but hey i still did it.

my knee feels mostly better by Sunday morning. so i can get back on my skates and do what i really can, skate my ass off. sorry TJOCF i didn't break the 20 minute mark

Pat came over and helped me over to her truck, we got my bike and put it in the trucks bed and go over to her place to ice my knee before going back to the festival for beer ( mass quanties ) and chili tasting.

Ouch! I can't imagine racing with pain like that. Good job gutting it out and finishing. I hope your knee is OK.
