I always enjoy running this 5k every year. First of all, I enjoy the drive to this race, for I travel on Columbia Parkway which provides some of the most beautiful river views in Cincinnati. FYI, It was featured in the movie Rainman.

And the course itself is pretty scenic, since it's held in the beautiful Village of Mariemont. Here's a picture of the Mariemont Inn, near the course.

The course is mostly a flat one. It starts with a short downhill by the high school track. Then it winds around the flat, tree lined streets of MariEmont. Then you climb up A hill at the end and finish with a lap around the track.

It was pretty hot and humid this morning, so the tree lined streets and the shade they provided were greatly appreciated.

I saw one of my fellow coaches from the St. Ignatius track team there who was running with her son.

She finished first in her age group, as did her 12 year old son.

Me? I started fast, running the first mile in 6:24. The second mile I was at 13:10. The 3rd mile , my pace slipped quite a bit , but I was still pretty proud of my 20:55.

Today, that was even good enough for second in my age group. And it was a 50 second improvement from my time of last week, so.... I'll take it.
