Last winter I bought my oldest son a new (used) bike. At 14yo, the bike was slightly too big, but by spring it was perfect. Of course, it didn't fit for long. All season it seemed like every other week I was jacking up the seat. The last measurement we had was that he was 5'9".

Today, I took him and the bike to the lbs to prove to him that the bike was too small. So, I ask them what they think. One look at him and the bike, and look at me like I'm crazy.

The Trek is a 49. They put him on a Specialized 56 and it fits perfectly--today. They suggested that he get a 58.

Oh, and the kicker--the sales person said that he's 5'9" and that was the bike he rides. I looked at the sales person. I look at my son. My son is a good 2inches taller...

From there we went grocery shopping and spent close to $200. And that was just one week's groceries. Any guess where it's all going???

Hint: Women lie about how much they weigh or how old they are. Guys ( Lbs Salesperson) lie about how tall they are. Usually off by at least 1 inch often we add 2 inches to how tall we really are. Your son is a true 5'9". The Salesman stretched the truth on his own height.

I am really just a tad below 5' 10 and say I am 5 10 or if she is cute I say 5 11.

I ride a 58 cm bike. Could ride a 56.

The way he is growing, you might as well buy another used bike, because I would guess in a year this next one will be too small.

Don't underestimate how much teenage girls can pack away. My 13 yr old daughter eats an impossibly huge amount of food every day and she's a total stick girl. She is 5'4" and doesn't even weigh 100 lbs and eats me out of house and home. Don't even get me started on how much milk we go through!

Yeah...I think teens in general just don't know how good they have it. High metabolisms allow them to eat stuff that we grownups can't.
