When I graduated, I had a job interview in Connecticutt. I figured Hartford would be the most convenient place to fly to, but I could not for the life of me find an airport symbol on the map anywhere near the city.

I looked again after the travel agent had booked my ticket (thereby confirming that the city did have an airport), and finally found the symbol I was looking for - way up at the top of the map, halfway between the city and the Mass. state line. That's when I looked at the map's scale.

The airport is maybe eight miles from downtown Hartford.

On the maps of the states I was used to, that same map distance was equivalent to ~60 miles of highway distance!

Heck, out west we've got cities that wouldn't fit inside some of your New England states.

Bradley Airport ftw!!!

Maybe it's a new england thing with airports being someplace other than advertised....T.F. Green in Providence (but really Warwick) is like that too. Fortunately our states are so damn small it doesn't matter. Kennedy Airport in NYC (but really long island) is considerably pain in the ass-er than the previou two, but mainly due to traffic flow issues.
