The time had come, as the Walrus once said, for myself to feel old. Over the years, running has made me feel young, or kept me young, but time has been catching up, and recently, my 25 year old son, finally, started to run. After many years of sitting around on his backside, he finally bought some runners, and lo and behold, he has taken to the sport that I have enjoyed for 30 years plus.

As I was due to be home for a few weeks, for the imminent arrival of a different age enducing event, my first grandchild (this from my daughter), I challenged Liam Og (my son) to a race. As luck would have it, there was a local 5 Mile race in the short time I would be there, and the Business House Athletic Association Dunboyne 5 Miler, was to be our "Duel On The Run" , with due deferrence to Dick Bardsley.

Suffice to say, youth came out over experience, and, as I say in my race report, I make no excuses for losing, but I am determined to work harder to regain a certain level, so that the next time we lace up on the same start line, the result may be different. Somehow I feel, if he sticks with it, that he will improve far moire dramatically than I can these days, but that competitive edge is still there for me, and I will be ready and waiting.

I have a full report on the blog, linked from my signature, but I was wondering if any of you have had that Generation Race where you have "raced", rather than ran with, your offspring, or even parents?
