Good morning gang. No running this morning for my wings, but I did run a sproinky 3 miler last night. Tonight is gym night with Mr, Posie.

Just wondering what is in your menu list for Thanksgiving!

Morning buttefly lady and McSpeed

Most of family will be flying to Phoenix for T.G. Our kids have their own plans. DW and I will spend T.G. by ourselves for the first time ever. Think we'll go on a date to S.A.

10 moh in 37 degrees this morning with no wind. A greta day of running.

matt, you've been having some great meetup runs. KS, I granted your wish about the wind machine but it started up again today here. I don't mind running in the wind as long as it's not a tempo run, which of course was on my schedule for today, so I was really glad Brooke had given me permission to slow it down. No tunes today. I was very pleased with the final outcome, although it took me a while to get up to speed, running by effort and not watching the watch. I was aiming for about half marathon pace in a classic 20-minute tempo run. After a mile warmup, I did 2.26 miles @8:51, and then of course a cooldown.

Today is our work Thanksgiving luncheon & I made pumpkin muffins. The recipe is in the food thread. I used half the sugar and they're already a hit because I said go ahead and help yourself!

Opie, you're a man of many talents. I love any food with pumpkin in it. BTW, the pics link wants to know the name of the race before I could specify the bib...

This is the first year in a long time we won't be hosting the extended out law clan at home for T.G. My SIL wants to show off her new kitchen so we'll all settle in Dedham to watch the Pats feast on Lions. (Not to sure of her cooking skills though...)

27F and sunny this morning, quickly warming up into the 40s. Ran 16 miles to work, but due to human error, the first 4 were untimed. The last 12 at 8:28 pace. Nice morning run. Felt greta at the end and just had to stretch it out for a 7:58 final mile. That was fine, uh-yup.

eta-I just got an e-mail from the Knoxville Track Club saying they're having an 8k for Thanksgiving. Man, I wish. My 8k PR is so soft!

no run for me today. will just do lots of stretching and continue with the ab work tonight (have been doing ab work almost every night this week and already feeling better thru the core).

will hit the Expo at lunchtime to pick up my goodie bag and bib for the HM tomorrow. I say "expo" sort of facetiously as it's just going to the running store and get your bag, yet they call it the expo.

Thanksgiving for us is traditional faire. with perhaps a side dish or two that is different, but this is the one meal that our family just really likes the traditional food prepared. Dad does a turkey on the grill, then the usual yams with crispified marshmallows, mashed taters, stuffing, cranberry relish (not the canned gel schtuff!), a side veggie. And I'm making an ambrosia salad, a pumpkin pie and a pecan pumpkin cake roll. I cooked down a sugar pumpkin after halloween and froze the puree, so will use that for my pumpkin desserts. Our guest list is short because it's just the 3 of us, my MIL, and my parents. This year though my brother is flying in from MN. He gets here Monday and is staying til Saturday. I haven't seen my brother in probably 5 yrs now? We aren't terribly close, but it'll be nice to see him. I still haven't told my husband and son that he's flying in. We are going out to dinner on Tuesday night for my bday and he will surprise them then. And then later in the week, my brother, son and I will go see the new Harry Potter movie, since we are the only HP fans.

I'm now relieved that our the scheduling of our local HM didn't work for either Lab or Econo because with snow predicted down to the 1,000 ft level this weekend, I don't know that they would have made that drive through the passes anyways, nor would I have wanted them too. Looks like I might be running in snowfall tomorrow. . . which I would rather have than rain anyways. See you in the a.m, Johnny!

Pink - I hope your fizz comes back. Don't you love words with the letter z in them? z words just make me happy - plus you never know when you need a strange z word for scrabble!

A group of 15 at my house for Thanksgiving. KS - you and DW should just get in the car and come on over! The more the merrier!

Opie - yum. I bet you and I would make a great cooking team.

MC - will you remind me how to get to the solarmixes? I can't remember where to find them. Duh.

I foolishly offered to do Thanksgiving at my house when nobody was stepping up to do it. But then the logistics worked out better for my sister if we had it at my brother's house (they live pretty close to each other, but on the other side of the valley from us). My BIL is having surgery next week and she didn't want him to have to go all the way over to my house. Plus, he's allergic to my cat (but they have one of their own that doesn't bother him, go figure) and his parents live pretty close to them so they can visit them, too. All that to say, I dodged the bullet this time! Whew. I'd have to start cleaning now for my house to be presentable by next Thursday!

Brother is doing a turkey, SIL making bread, Sis is doing the pies, mom and I are bringing sides (the nieces made a special request for grandma's orange jello-with-shredded-carrots-and-pineapple salad mold). I'll bring a big green salad and garlicky mashed potatoes. Need to use up those spuds in the garage! We'll all bring wine. My family goes thru a lot of wine.

6 miles on the treadmill last night. I'll probably do an easy 3 or so tonight. This is supposed to be a peak week for me with a 10 miler tomorrow and a 20 miler on Sunday, but I'm just not very jazzed about the whole idea. If it hadn't snowed so much yesterday I'd feel different. Hope the plows get out today and clear some of that blowy stuff away. Having all that snow on the shoulders makes our already road-greedy drivers even worse.

opie......you would undoubtedly post a BIG pr on the 8k course...... it's a fast one.......you probably recall the flat stretch along the river (mile 2-3) early in the marathon....just add a bit more of that road to the east, starting and finishing by Ruth Chris Steak House, which is next to Calhoun's BBQ where I think you ate............I'll be there, but with my current conditioning, a PW is a pretty safe bet

good luck with your race tomorrow tamster

mari.....work him out hard at the gym tonight

I plan to do maybe 3-4 mile this afternoon, just to loosen the legs before an attempt at 20something in the mountains tomorrow morning........tomorrow's route is entirely too long and hlly for my current level of fitness, which means I'll be out there a LOOONG time........but, if the achy foot allows me to finish it....., I'll be very happy no matter how tired and sore I am......and the longer it takes, the more I get to enjoy just being there

I'm surprisingly sore from last night's seven miles, and I've had the same calf cramp two nights in a row. It's in the lower left calf/upper achilles area. I've suffered from night calf cramps my whole life, but I don't remember ever having the same one two nights in a row. Definitely not in that spot before. And I wore my compression socks last night too! Anyway, I'm hobbling around this morning, but it should loosen up as they day progresses. That's the normal pattern. If I don't have another one tonight, I'll do a 13-miler tomorrow.

For Thanksgiving, we go to my oldest sister's house. She lives about an hour away. She made the mistake of brining a turkey several years ago, and it was so good we nominated her as turkey preparer for life! And she does the stuffing and gravy also. I'm in charge of mashed potatoes; I have been since I was about 12 years old. Mrs. Labduck is in charge of pies: she'll make both a pumpkin and a apple since my other sister (the one who I ran with during the Portland Marathon) won't eat pumpkin pie. We don't know what's wrong with her. She'll bring something vegetable related. My BIL's girlfriend, who is German, makes the most amazing red cabbage and brings that. None of us can stand her, but solely because of the cabbage, we've learned to tolerate her. And like Erika, we bring LOTS of wine. It makes tolerating the BIL girlfriend a bit easier.

Glad to see so many feeling greta during and after their runs today. I felt greta all morning, felt greta during my run at lunch time, and here I am, still feeling greta at my desk, 2 hours later. Seems feeling greta is the zeitgeist of the thread today. (notice it's 9 letters long, so if you can come up with 7 of them and tag them to a couple of existing tiles, it's worth about 100 points.)

It's about 37 - 38 degrees in Albania today, so as I headed out in shorts, wind pants and a long sleeve but thin tech shirt, I was a bit chilled when the wind blew; but as the run went along, and I picked up the pace around 1.25 miles, i was fine. In fact when the sun came out it was beautiful, but when it went behind a big cloud I'll confess it was a little chilly - wc around 28 or so.

1.25 mile warm up, .5 mile cool down, and 5.75 miles at 8:24 pace. All systems are go.

Opie, nighttime cramps seem to be more calcium related than potassium or sodium, but thanks for the reminder. I'll drink some milk before I go to bed tonight and get both calcium and potassium.

Hi all. 7 miles after a week of Lab, no wonder your crampy.

Nice run there Mike!

They can't all be sproinky runs Pink.

I am heading to my Mom's mid day on Monday till probably Saturday. I do most of the cooking, she usually does a pie and fresh cranberry relish. DEXSIL and my two grown up nephews are coming also on Wednesday. I will make a turkey but nephew1 and SIL said that doesn't thrill them so I might throw a rack of lamb in the oven after I take the turkey out.

She is Korean and bro is vegetarian and they never did the TG thing when the kids were little so none of them have that tradition. Me and Mom, we love the leftovers best. I make soup out of the carcass too. If I can find a football and it's not raining maybe I can get them outside to throw that around a bit too while stuff is cooking. Or go to find some geocaches :)

One year I ran out "for just one cache" and ended up calling Mom from on top of some hill in the woods so she could take the foil off and baste the turkey. Ooops.

Stuffing and gravy probably mashed turnips and a green veg and Mom likes baked sweet potatos, maybe brussels sprouts and a green salad. Last year I made an apple crisp because I didn't think one pie was enough for 6 people. Also we do fresh whipped cream. I asked exSIL and Nephews to bring the wine. Nothing fancy, just the basics but it's all freshly made from scratch and I look forward to it. One year it was just Mom and me when the kids were in college and we went out, the next day we had no leftovers and I said we wouldn't be doing that again.

I get to go do some microbrewpub* quality testing with Willrunforbeer* and Predawnrunner* in a couple of hours!

* 11, 14, and 13 letters, respectively. Not sure on the Scrabble points, but it surely ranks high in CR points.

I agree, the leftovers are the bestest part. I almost always roast a turkey the Saturday after Thanksgiving so we have the meat as well as the carcass for soup. I love making stock and soup.

Lab, that's funny about the GF. At least she has one redeeming quality worthy of keeping her around. I hope the calf cramps go/stay away.

Just back from our work Thanksgiving potluck. Lots of good food, some so-so and a couple of items I should've left alone. I guess that's why they call it a potluck. I brought the pumpkin pie I had in the oven while running in the basement last night, and a jar of cranberry sauce. Both were almost gone by the time I left. Almost time to go grab my dishes... If I didn't think I needed a run earlier today, I sure do now. DH wants to get a pizza for tonight, too. *urp*
