not much of a music guy here - but last night we took the kids in #1 son's youth group to another church (kinda megga church deal) anyway one of the girls got to play a real Steinway grand piano - wow even I could hear a difference

There comes a time in every child's musical life where their ability to play becomes more than the instrument can deliver. My daughter started on a keyboard when she was 5, and graduated to a reasonably nice upright piano when she was 7. She continued to play and practice and is now 18. Several years ago we traded the old upright pianie for a nifty new Yamaha C3 El Grande. What a difference in my daughter's playing and her desire to play!

brought me out of lurkdom...

my son plays a bassoon. he's been playing 3 years and has been playing a school owned instrument (a really nice one is about 15 - 18K). he went to a clinic at UGA a couple of months ago and played a very rare and very expensive bassoon and he is STILL talking about the difference in not only how it sounds, but how it is to play it.

he's also interested in the cello but has his eye on the $2700 (very used) one because he played it compared to the less expensive ($800) one and said there was just no comparison.

so i guess if you are a musician, yeah, it makes a big deal.

i'm clueless.
