Here is to a great running week.

The snow is melting real fast around here. The roads are messy, but the legs felt pretty sproinky going up the hill. This is my safe pre-dawn route a littly hilly, but the streets have a lot of lights, so I feel safe running in the dark here.

Good Morning!

Except for one quick little pop-in at FB this week, I've been off line since Friday. Amazing how much stuff you can get accomplished when I can't use computer time to deter me from what needs to be done!

Had a great time on Saturday for my son's 11th bday (and now upon hearing of Econo's sons stroke on Saturday, I can't help but be real saddened that that is what their family was going through at that same time)

Sunday we got our tree, decorated it and I also took a break from it all and ran 8 hilly miles in my hillside 'hood.

Today will be a rest day from running, but will do my stretching and core work tonight. My right glute and hamstring have been incredibly tight and hard to stretch out for a few weeks now. After the first of the year, I'll probably start setting up a few massage sessions again to get in some DT work on those areas.

thinking and praying for the Econo family today and hoping Ben continues to get stronger.

I couldn't figure out how to get my 5-miler in before yoga at lunch, so I just split it down the middle. Not bad. During the first half, I did some strides and schoolyard skipping (see my video link in the weekly). Oh, to be little Opie again! During yoga, I eliminated all thought except on Ben and his dear mom. Afterwards, I put my shoes and jacket back on and fell in behind some guys who run about the same time I do. They used to be a lot faster than me but were just barely pulling away today. In time, I'll be able to run with them. In the locker room, I found out one of them actually took my advice and ran his first mile slower. His buddy said he's been trying to tell him to back off for a long time. So, it took a stranger to make him listen. Interesting. My total time was 49:09, +139 ft., -138. Circuit training at the Norman Y after work.

Opie, I typically have the running vs. yoga dilemma as well. Running has been winning out lately, as is evident by all my accumulated miles these past couple months. Oh well... at least I spent some time on the foam roller this morning, finding myself in a pigeon-like position at one point. Made for a nice butt-stretch that I usually can't get in the pose outright. Then I moved forward over the roller to get my back quad into play, yowza!

I was actually surprised I was so tight today, but I suppose given Saturday afternoon's track workout it was to be expected. Can't remember if I posted it here, but we did 250m repeats as a group, 8x. Originally the coach had said we'd be doing 10, glad he rethought his plan. Then we finished with a full lap (quarter mile) relay with two teams (there were about 20 of us). Now as much as I try to experience the positive in any situation I find myself in, I'm sorry, I just couldn't do it on Saturday. Speedwork is just not fun. But I think, given today's speedy run of 5 miles in 44:34, I suppose there's value in nasty and hateful medicine after all. Who knew?

Hi Gang,

Strange weather we're having, huh? tw has -2 and snow while up here in the Commonwealth it was 50F and just a little drizzle.

Last night was the first night in several that I was able to sleep through without having to take cough medicine. I needed the sleep. Did intervals at the track, 5 x 0.5 mile + 2:00 recoveries. With a 2 mi w/u and 1 mi c/d, it was 6.5 altogether. Fast parts in the 7:24 - 7:09 pace range. And it really helped break up all the chest congestion. I think I'm turning the corner on this bug.

Hey, how 'bout them Pats!

Nice speed work, Johnny.

I ran on the towpath yesterday, 10 miles, and got drenched. Brrr....cold rain.

Nice snow today, but windy. Started out by skiing 50 minutes in the morning.

This afternoon I traced a path around the house, .6m loop through the fields and woods. Did the loop 4 times for 2.4 miles and +/-634ft.

Figured it's good practice for a February trail race, and later, without the snow, good for training for summer and fall trail marathons.

Then back out again for 30 more minutes of skiing. I was able to have this fun because school was closed today!

Thinking of Ben all day....glad to hear the news is a bit more on the positive side.

3 slow recovery miles on the work TM at the end of the day. Our temps took a nose dive last night... from +3°C and raining during the day to -14°C last night and a -11°C high today. Glad I finally got the lights up while DH was at hockey last nite. I still love the traditions and, hey, really don't want to be the only dark house on the street.

Nice work on the lights Heme. My neighbors say that I put pressure on them to put up their lights. I like being that neighbor.

My three mile recovery run ended at one mile. The DOMS felt worse then, so I stopped. Did some foam rolling and stretching, then spent 10 minutes in the hot tub. I'm a prune.

The idea today was to see how fast and far I could go doing a progression run speeding up every half mile. I started at 12 minute pace and ran out of gas after 4.5 miles in a shade over 50 minutes averaging 11:08 for the whole run. Elevation gain was 2,820 ft. After recovering I did another mile at 15% incline in 13:16 for another 780 ft up the treadmill mountiain.
