I have been helping Victoria Boy run. He's loving it, really loving it. He wants to run in the Royal Vic Marathon races, not the full but maybe the half. As a first race I am not sure of that as a distance, but I think he'll be able to do the distance if he trained for it.

Now the race coincides with our Thanksgiving and is about the time of his birthday, so he's asked if I could be there to "coach" him or maybe even run with him. I think the former is highly likely. I will be there. But the runner in me really really wants to do some distance.

The problem? I haven't run anything serious since the spring. Oh, I can still run, but I know I have no stamina. There is no question of racing, my aortic valve deficiency would rule that out, probably even the half as a race given the general deterioration of the condition.

I know that the oby would be ready for a 10k race, I wouldn't race that distance but might be able to run it. The challenge is to come up with a program that:

a) would ensure that I not get injured (my shoulder is still a concern while running)

b) would ensure that I can develop the cardio stamina without overdoing it

c) would get me to race day to be a help to the oby without my overdoing it.
