a sad state of affairs. I met someone today who is uninsured and older and he says if he ever needs medical care he will go on a "trip" somewhere and use their free healthcare because he could not afford it otherwise :(

Unfortunately for him it doesn't quite work that way, not even in Cuba. After the car accident it cost me 75 euros to get it all patched up. Not much, but still.

In Britain "casualties" or emergencies don't cost anything, but the meter is running if you take a bed.

What gets me is listening to a lot of people in this country saying that because we have the best health care system in the world we don't need to make any adjustments to acess for all Americans. They point to people from other countries coming to the U.S. for their medical procedures. And that's fine. People with money will always have options to travel to whereever they think they can get the best health care. Nothing wrong with that.

Health care in the U.S. is great and I benefit greatly from it because I have access through my employer. But for people with no insurance the greatest health care system in the world means absolutely nothing.
