I hate it when people do that, but I did it anyway....

That's it, I am finished, with Hartford training. Taper starts today!!! Yea!!!

Short story:
23 today, last long run done.

Long story:
La Tortuga has upset my applecart by scheduling her Somerville Healthy 5k for my last long run with a a two week taper for Hartford Sunday (9/30). So what to do? Run 23 after the 5k, I doooon't think so. Do it few days later? Shortens the already short two week taper. Move the long up in time, yup. So golf outing at work frees up my Wed afternoon. Perfect. Typical for me, weather forecast coimes in at 91 deg at the end of Sept. Unbelievable!!!

So I opt for the boring long run. I hate out and backs, I like loops. But a run to the Local Running Store (LRS) and back is 5M. They have water there, key for today. So off I go.

Pre weight=157 in running garb.

First trip: 42:32 8:30 pace HR=157 (kinda high but it is hot, temp reads 89). 4 to 8 oz of water at the LRS and 8 oz of Gatorade and 8 oz of water and 2 e-caps at home. Weight=156

2nd trip: 43:44 8:45 pace HR=156. Hydration the same. Weight=153

3rd trip: 46:15 9:15 pace HR=155. Hydration the same. Weight=152

4th trip: 9:03 pace HR=157. Hydration the same. Weight=oops forgot.

3 more M to get to 23. Death march pace to downtown, 10m/M. 8:40 pace back. HR=161.

Final weight= 151 (150 BAN).

This was difinitely a tough one. Like the one Pink was complaining about. The temps make a big difference. Big.

Glad it's behind me. Last 23 was ten days ago. 3 days back was a 15. A 2.5 week taper. Let the party start. Hope I can run a 5k in 4 days.

Thanks for reading,
Ah, okay, now I get what BAN is.

Good going, Pro. Hmm, I'm wondering whether I should get out in the cool of evening under the Hunter's Moon to do another 10. Nah. You win.

That sure was a toughie. Congrats on going out and getting 'er done. I'm sure that will pay dividends on marathon day.

Now you can go snaky like the rest of the taperers.

Nice one Pro, I can't believe that heat it must be everywhere. I really admire the way you stayed on top of hydration. I have a tendency to consume less as the run gets long especially if its hot.
Careful on the 5k
Wow, Pro. The closest experience I have to this is when I ran 14 miles in 90 F. I went easy and watched my hydration & electrolytes. But I was still reduced to walking half of the last mile, and I lost 6 lbs.

^5 for nailing a tough, tough workout.

Good luck in the 5K.

Edit: today's high here was 70.

Nice run, Pro. You're very tough, out in that heat. It sounds like your hydration plan worked pretty well - imagine how awful you'd have felt if you hadn't been able to get enough fluids.

Happy taper now!

Nice run Craig! Isn't it nice to be in taper? Surely it HAS to be better weather than this for our races!

I knew it was Baystate if I had you pegged correctly. Chris told me that.

But I have to add, you are running pretty well. What's your goal?
