<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>DAY 1.</strong> THANKSGIVING DAY.</span></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Official Start Time: 10:08 am</p>
<p>Location: William B. Umstead State Park</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Wilbur, Sarah and I met up with our friend Nicole, who is training fo her first ultra (NC Fat Ass 50K, in Jan). I was expecting the park to be empty - there was a lot of people out building up an appetite for the inevitable pig out later.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>We had a gentle plod, and actually ended up with a "PR" for the CCW Reedy/Graylyn/Turkey loop [did someone say 'turkey'? Yum!]</p>
<p> </p>
<p>YES!! SOMEBODY DID SAY TURKEY!</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64169/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1683.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15163" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15163/width/668/height/500" style="; width: 668px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p><span style="color:#ff0000;">TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY!</span> (Umsteaders will recognize this sign as the end of the sawtooth section, and the beginning of a nice descent). The turkey sign was a nice reminder that I had cooked loads of food, and by the time I got home, it would be all ready.</p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64196/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1684.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15167" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15167/width/668/height/500" style="; width: 668px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p>Reedy Creek Lake signals the right turn to the parking lot</p>

<p>Wilbur went for a paddle</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Mrs Jimbo was working Thanksgiving day, so it was just me, the pups, some <span style="color:#8b4513;">Yueng</span> and a bottle of port. Jimbo heaven. Oh, and turkey, lots and lots of turkey. Aid Station 1 was cool. Turkey turkey and turkey. Booze too.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Day 1 total: 9.5 miles</p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>DAY 2:</strong></span> <strong>The day of the dumb ass</strong></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Just me and the pups. Jordan Lake, New Hope Trail.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64199/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="IMG00182-20101126-1430.jpg" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15168" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15168/width/667/height/500" style="; width: 667px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>I guess people round these here parts take black Friday seriously. Both parking lots were empty - I had the whole park to myself.</p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64203/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="IMG00183-20101126-1430.jpg" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15170" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15170/width/667/height/500" style="; width: 667px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p>The pups by the Jimbo Wagon</p>
<p> </p>
<p>So - why the day of the "Dumb Ass". Well, I had a 50k set for Saturday. A few yards into the run, it clicked that it wasn't the smartest thing in the world to run when the wet roots were covered with wet leaves. Doh!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>We did the Red Ankle Breaker Trail (Dumb Ass) and the Grassy Loop. Wilbur went for a paddle.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64205/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="IMG00187-20101126-1437.jpg" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15171" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15171/width/667/height/500" style="; width: 667px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Day 2 total: 6.25 miles, accumulative total: 15.75</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Off to the aidstation for some turkey.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Day 3 - Derby 50K</strong></span></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Derby is a tiny little community in NC. Just a community center is all that is there. Every year, my running club put on a 50k road race around there. 3 x 10.5 mile loops on rolling hills.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Let's just say that things went swimmingly well. My time on the course last year was 6:28. Official time this year: 5:29. So a huge PR for the course, and a PR by 50ish minutes for the distance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>This year there were no cows in the cowfield watching us.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I wore my Javelina skirt. I did not wear lipstick.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64214/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="154164_169697653062071_100000655120166_399709_8214023_n.jpg" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15173" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15173/width/375/height/500" style="; width: 375px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p>Mmmmm. Sexy or what?</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64216/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1694.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15174" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15174/width/374/height/500" style="; width: 374px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p>Jimbo, with a PR and his medal. I chose red because it is hunting season (and I don't have a blaze orange skirt)</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64218/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="derby elevation profile.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15175" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15175/width/806/height/230" style="; width: 806px; height: 230px"></a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>I went home and had some beer.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Day 3: 31.5 miles. Accumulative total 47.25</p>
<p> </p>
<p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Day 4: Day of the stroll</strong></span></p>
<p> </p>
<p>I got me some beat up legs yesterday, so decided to use up the last 2.75 miles to just have a walk with the pups. We went to Jordan Lake. I know of a couple of trailheads, but have never wondered down them - so we had some fun exploring. Highlight was a new "Road to Nowhere"</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64220/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1701.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15176" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15176/width/668/height/500" style="; width: 668px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p>"Road Closed 500 ft" Really? Ya don't say!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>500 ft later, we figured out why the road was closed

</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64222/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1704.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15177" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15177/width/668/height/500" style="; width: 668px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>And Wilbur (and Sarah) went for a paddle!</p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64224/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1706.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15178" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15178/width/668/height/500" style="; width: 668px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>We did some wondering round, went bushwhacking to see if there was a way that two trails connected (we couldn't find it), and then went to the boat ramp and messed with the self timer on the camera to see if We could get a picture to signal the end of the Virtual Fat Ass for 2010. (had to do a quick loop of the parking lot to make sure we hit exactly 2.75 miles</p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p><a class="H-lightbox-open" href="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/64226/width/1000/height/800/flags/" target="_blank"><img alt="DSCN1711-1.JPG" class="lightbox-enabled" data-id="15179" data-type="61" src="http://www.kickrunners.com/content/type/61/id/15179/width/689/height/500" style="; width: 689px; height: 500px"></a></p>
<p> </p>
<p>Day 4 total: 2.75 miles. Accumulative total 50 miles.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>EDIT: Finish time 4:05pm. 77hrs and 57 minutes total. Personal best for this exact course.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I went home and had some beer.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>THE END</p>
