Great idea. I am currently doing quite a bit besides running, most recently have been working with a personal trainer in the weight room for the last 6 weeks.
In addition, I use the cardio equipment at the gym, bike alone and with a club and inline skate. Wonderful to have a new place to discuss these.

I do a lot of cross training. Mostly hiking, powerhikes on the TM, elliptical, stairstepper and jumproping. This is great.

If anyone else loves the stairstepper as much as me, we can start a fan club

I actually prefer the Stairmill to the stepper but I will use the stepper if the mills are all taken. And I wouldn't exactly call it love, more of a love/hate thang.

Alright!

When summer and better weather comes around, I cycle and swim more often. I'm no tri-geek, but I have done a few Sprint triathlons over the past couple summers.

I look forward to good threads from from the cross-trainers and multi-sporters. I have much respect for how you do it.

I do not belong to a gym, and if i could fit one in my house without causing a divorce, i so totally would!!!!!!
I will say that after 6 months of regular use, my butt and thighs have changed, but my thighs make it hard to buy pants. But i do better in my races, so i guess it is a trade off!

So where are you using the stair stepper?
Another piece of equipment I love/hate is the Bosu ball. Squats with dumbell front raises and just standing on it with a body bar for bicep curls get my heart rate way up there. This is something you could have in the house as it doesn't take up much room.

AHH, so you meant if you could have a Stairmill you would? They require a high ceiling. Hey, as long as you use your home equipment that is great. How many people buy that stuff and use it as a clothes rack. We have a brand spanking new gym in my apartment building and we had to pay an assessment for it. We've had a gym for a long time but it consisted of donated equipment which worked fine for me on days I didn't want to go the half mile up the block. Anyway.....when they first redid this one it was getting some action but now it is virtually empty. I use it once or twice week and never see anyone. Super says it hardly gets used except by a handful of regulars.
It's got club quality stuff and cable TV, mirrors......2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills, 2 recumbent bikes a universal machine and a set of dumbells. Someone left a ball in there which I use for ball against the wall squats.

Off to go for a run, training later at the club.

I do use my equiptment, DH used the TM. I never found any gyms near here that i liked once we moved here from MA, so i bought one piece of equiptment, then another, and another We do not have a basement, but i hope when we move at the end of the year, we will find a place with a basement or a room that can accomadate all my toys. Right now they are in the living room, which is nice, but i think it annoys my DH. Luckily it is a big room.

hally, that sounds like a very nice gym. My old apartment building in Northern Va. had something similar. I used it quite a bit but it was never very busy.

Someday I'll either live in a great condo building with a fitness center, or a house where either the basement or FROG are converted to my dream home gym. Someday!! It would be so nice to not have to schlep to the local Y, with all its annoyances, on days I am working out indoors.

I forgot to mention, our gym in the building looks out on the ocean. Which is nice, except at night of course.

This is great - I don't feel so alone as not-a-runner-anymore..but I too do elliptical, walk, hike, snowshoe & crosscountry ski, swim and kayak..oh and there's always soccer (knee brace and soft surface allow for the running in that! )
Nice to have a place to chat about these things!
