I wasn't going to do a RR for this one, but it was requested so here goes...
After running my first 5K last month, someone suggested that I do a turkey trot in November for my next race. So I found the 5th Annual Thankful Turkey 5K in San Marcos. It was an hour drive. I got there an hour early for packet pickup. I was one of the first people there. I took some ibuprofin for my knee and then got in the very short line for the port-a-johns. It alternated between a steady rain and drizzle the entire hour we were waiting for the race to begin. It was overcast for the entire race. The temperature was in the 50's. There was a lady from the local Gold's Gym who did an aerobic type workout for the racers, but not very many people participated. I walked around some and finally the wheel chair division started. There was only one racer. Then the rest of us got in position for running or walking and we were off promptly at 8:00. This race wasn't chip timed so I don't know what my split times were. I was a little worried because I had not run since last Saturday. I passed these three old ladies early on, but after the first turnaround, they passed me. I kept them within a few feet though. Sometime after the race started, the rain stopped. I ran pretty well, kept wanting to stop and walk like so many others were doing, but I just wanted to finish without stopping. The course was pretty flat not one hill. My knee wasn't bothering me so I just kept a steady pace and plugged along until the finish. I thought I was the last person to come across the finish, but I wasn't. My time was 46:54. A little over a minute slower than my first 5K last month. And yes, the old ladies finished before me. What was really cool was the number of kids who ran. My family didn't come see me race. My ds had to drive at the driving school today at the time my race began. Aahh well! I kept the RM's and RD's and several of the PRTers in mind while I was running. You guys really are an inspiration. Thanks for all of your support!
