This may be the only time I'm seated today except for when I'm behind the wheel of a car. I have 2 dr's appts, 1 short gym workout planned, and a 3 hour drive to Kennedy airport to drop off son & his fiancee for a trip to Monterey for a conference. Then tomorrow morning I have to leave the house before 6am to catch a flight to Chicago. Argh.

My calf and arch are sore like crazy so I'm assuming that that physical therapy is actually doing something. Please keep fingers, toes & paws crossed for a speedy recovery.

You'll laugh at this. Last night DH was out playing his weekly game of cards with the "boys" and I got a bug up my butt about how messy the house is. So for over 4 hours I ran around like crazy cleaning everything -- 4 loads of wash, scrub 2 bathrooms, vacuum the whole house, washed the kitchen floor, even dremeled the dogs' nails and did their little grooming. Changed all the sheets, etc. It was like a whirlwind. It was fantastic and now I dont' have to do another "deep" cleaning until before Thanksgiving; just the upkeep. I don't know where I got the energy -- but it's gone now, hahaha.

Susan, the whirlwind. That's funny! What did you have for dinner? I'm sending good vibes that you survive the next few busy days unscathed.

(On a related note, my mom has a vit. B12 deficiency and takes B12 shots once a month. She says the first 3 days after her shot, she's got the energy to do everything on her "to-do" list, and then some.)

I haven't run yet today. Friday is my day off, so I decided not to abuse myself with an extra early wakeup. I should have time for a run this afternoon before I pick the kids up from school. If not, there's always tomorrow...

Happy Friday

Riley - Last time my wife got crazy and cleaned non stop like that she was "nesting". Had her baby shortly after. I'm just sayin.......

Runinbehind - good attitude.

Perch - good quality run.

today was my long run of the week. Punched out 18 miles in 7:59 avg. Last 4 miles were between 7:30 and 7:00. Cold for us in S. TX 45 degrees. Wished for gloves first 10 miles then started warming and felt better. Had a bloody shirt when finished. Haven't had to wear a shirt on my long runs because it's been dark but hot. Now have to wear one because of cold. Dreading the shower now.

Good runs to the rest who follow behind today.

Where's millbot?

Hope Tom White is behaving.

Still no moon showing here, nothing but clouds.
It's going to rain until Sunday when it will be lovely so they say.
A rest day today.
I like rest days, when I'm taking them on purpose.

I drove in today so I can go to see the physio who will (I hope) put my jaw back on its bearings. The moon was out there shining its little heart out, but it seems so much farther away when admired through a windshield, so I pulled off and just sat on my hood and looked at it for a while.

Mill, thanks for starting the Dreadful Thread. I had tears streaming down my cheeks at about the point Econo posted hers last night, I was laughing so hard.

#11 ·
Me too, Sal -- I was laughing so hard that DS came in and so he got to see all the photos, too! Too bad I can't get my Avenue of the Giants 2007 (last name Irvin) photo to post -- if anyone else can figure it out, feel free to post it. I have no shame!

Peppy run to work this morning, 4.4 miles at a much faster pace than I ran it on Tuesday. heh!

I'm not going to comment on ksrnr's 18-miler until I see dreadful photo evidence.
Steve, I'm still grinning about your loopiness the other day. More, please.
Sal, your coach puts together some fun w/o's. Look forward to hearing about your racing schedule. Hope Cedar 12k is on it.

Rest day. I'm going for a walk on the trail though. Beautiful day.

There's no need to do core exercises ever again. Just pull out the Dreadful Thread. We have such courage.

Check it out.

No running for me today. Last night's run felt real good although my hams were a bit tight when I got home - so still a few residuals from Sunday's race I guess. I feel fine today though - I stretched and did abs again. I'm striving for abs of steel like Souci - it'll never happen because I don't eat nearly as healthy as she does . . . but the abs are getting firmer after almost one week now of daily ab work.

closing the office at 11 a.m. today for the 2nd half of our company bowling tournament. My team is in 2nd to last place. we suck. I always bowl better with a beer, so this time I'll try that. Last time we bowled - 3 wks ago - I didn't drink because Johnny and I were doing our 15 mile run the next morning.

good luck to the racers this weekend!!!

Millbot - all my ugly photos were deleted when my hard drive crashed. Thank goodness. Not worth the money to reclaim those! The problem is you can't tell my "bad" ones from my "good" ones.

Thanks Perch

SS. I can take a picture of my bloody t shirt. Even as I type this I'm bent over so my shirt doesn't touch anything sensitive.

JJJ - It's all relative. We were talking this morning during our run about the new world marathon record. Last 5k was about 14:40 and we were wishing we knew what that was like. It was a good run as I wanted to turn it loose at 10 miles and see what would happen. Good sense and my group kept me reigned in till about `14 miles. They couldn't pass their cars at the park at 16.5 so I finished by myself.

Hally - the moon this morning as we finished was so light we could almost see thru it. gorgeous!

If you're not on team A; take tomorrow off. You need some rest

ksrunr

ksrunr - nice 18! Body glide - not sure how much it helps guys there though . . .

GL Gin, Runin, Ilene and Hippo!!

I was a slug for 10 miles earlier today. TW does heavy hands, I did heavy legs today .

I have started collecting animals two by two.
I am almost done building the ark.
The creek's arisin'

So I drove meself to the rec. center and ran on the treadmillbot.

5 miles in 45:38.

I had it on .5% incline (the machine said 3% grade, which I don't understand)

I started at 6mph and then went up .2 every half mile.
When I got to 7mph, I stayed there until the asthma kicked up (I forgot to take my Foridil or whatever today, I'm a dingbat)

Anyway. There. I ran.

Ksrunr, wow. I like mid-week long runs.

MS, I hope you're realigned now.

treadmillbot - SNORK! I like that...

Rest day for me too. I had originally planned on swimming, but I need to run some errands, and it's such a grand day in the PNW (e.g. - sunny!) that I'm going to enjoy what is most likely one of our last nice days until the grays make their annual 6 month visit.

ks, every time I do my first run of the wet season, I forget to apply Body Glide and end up in your same situation. Ouch!

Ksrunr, you are really logging some miles these days. Sorry about the bloody nipples. I spent 2 yrs nursing babies and never had to deal with anything like that. Can't imagine <shudder>. Now about that dreadful photo.... The more, the merrier. <hint hint>

Adding my thanks to Millbot for starting the Dreadful Thread. That will go down in history as my all-time favorite. What a hoot! We need to memorialize it someplace so we don't lose it. Sal, Wiki perhaps? How nice we can all put our egos aside and laugh at ourselves and each other. You guys are the best!

Nice running, Rosie.

As for me, I am taking a rest day and working at home. My running pal has backed out on me for tomorrow's long run so may have to drag MrC along for company if his ITB permits. Of course, we are supposed to get snow so could be interesting. I love this erratic weather.

[edited to add: Econo, we always add the words "in bed" to the end of a fortune. Makes them funnier.]

#20 ·
Oh, geez. Thanks, Econo. Jasmine tea is eminently snorkable. Will the madness ever end?

But ...

Yes, we need ksrunr (not the bloody shirt, tho', puleeze), Ken A, a BIG Johnny pic, perch, gin, His Excellency PieJ, Road Hawk, grommit (I'm sure there are others I'm blanking on). There are a bunch of geezers who introduced themselves who should come out of hiding and present their bad side.

And of course the few hawties who need to keep trying.

WTG, Rosie. You too PinkHeavyLegs. Good Luck, racers.

Till you have to take then off!! I use all my aquaphor samples or vaseline.

KSR must say again how nice it is to have you on Team A.

Nice runs for all it seems. Speedy recovery Susan.

I got in 5 easy today. Rest day tomorrow.

Peace

Weighing in on the bloody nipple issue (can't even type that without getting hate shivers )... The preventive I like best is compression gear. Under Armour has good options for various weather conditions. You can wear it as a base layer or as your only layer. It hasn't failed me yet, on runs up to 20 miles.

Another suggestion (I think this originated with Doctor Wu) is to grind them off with a wire brush, and in a few weeks you'll have some nice tough scar tissue instead. It's not like you need 'em.

#24 ·
Much more betterer now, thanks, Rose. I saw the physio this morning.

I wish this wouldn't happen, but oh, well. It will take a few days for the inflammation to settle down, but I'm on the road back to crunchy caramel apples.

#25 ·
Ksrunr, cover your ears and do NOT listen to that last nugget of advice. Millbot, shame on you for quoting Dr Wu!

#26 ·
Okay, I'm laughing. "Treadmillbot", thanks for the advice on the race this weekend. I hope to not disappoint...if I do, it won't be for lack of good vibes here.

Souci, I like your new tag line. I thought it was funny when Lab said it, but somehow it seems even funnier at the bottom of your posts.

I ran 3 miles this afternoon then did an additional 1 mile w/u and c/d walking. This wasn't one of my better runs; I think due to the rather strenuous 5 miles I did yesterday. It's almost impossible for me to run outside and avoid hills. (Ask Econo, if you don't believe me). Normally, I like them. But sometimes when I just want a nice, easy run, I'd like to have a nice, flat route to run. Anyway, what I'm tryin' to say is that the hills today really whupped me!

I'm taking tomorrow as a rest day from running, then Sunday afternoon is my race. Start time is 1:00 - late, huh?
