TGIF!

Heard on the news this morning that state owned alcohol stores are closed in North Carolina in preparation for the storm. Do you think NC government was spying on our planning advice? :)

We got power back around 3:15 yesterday and the fridge contents survived this time. DH poo-pooed the generator idea, but the neighbors across the street bought one yesterday.

Morning Amy!

I have to go back and read yesterday's thread, because I was kind of buried in homework all day. But I'm done with week 1's assignments early! Supposed to be driving down to Charleston this afternoon for book club, but I am not sure if that will happen or not. Windy and rainy along the coast, and I don't know how wild I am about driving in the rain on the interstate if I don't HAVE to...we'll see.

My brother who moved to MD last fall is prepping for a possible direct hit on the eastern shore of MD. He has to stay on the hotel property; they are predicting up to 15' of water with the storm surge so he's not happy. He's renting a house that is over 100 yrs. old, and after the earthquake earlier in the week, he's wondering how everything is going to fare. Keep your fingers crossed that he and everyone else among us that are going to be impacted are safe.

Ugh. That's kind of a downer. What do I have for fun that might perk up this post?

Oh! Saturday night I'm going to go out and play trivia at a bar in Columbia with some fellow library peeps. This should be fun!

Morning!

Got 5 in this morning, but core stuff is going to have to wait till later.

My neighbor (Jack's girlfriend & Lawn Boy Mick's mom) stopped by last night. She is a nurse and has been making various salves for various aches/pains/itches for a number of years. With their feedback she has been tweaking her recipes, and is finally satisfied with @10 kinds. One of her friends has finally convinced her she should sell them, which is why she came down to talk to me. She wanted to know about how to get a label designed and how to market them and all that stuff.

Right now she is just calling them Kathy T's _____ salve, but is looking for ideas for what to call her company. She is hoping to get them into health food store type places, and has a sense of humor about her product. You guys some up with some funny stuff.... Any thoughts about what she could call her company?

Here is her current packaging (this is going to change, but you'll get an idea.)

Arthritis Salve (with boswellia serratai)

Itch Salve (for bug bites, rashes and other skin irritations)

Crooked Finger arthritis salve with glucosamine

Nature's Touch (topical anesthetic-antibiotic-antifungal-astringent)

Over-Did-It muscle salve (sooth and help heal damaged muscles while reducing inflammation)

I know more about food labeling, so I don't know if there would be issues with what she says on the label. There aren't really any claims, just a statement as to what it is supposed to help relieve. Anyone know about that?

I just finished 3.2 easy miles. I'm in CT right now at my parents' house. We drove in from NJ last night, and we'll continue up to Boston within the next couple hours. At least the wedding tomorrow shouldn't be affected by the storm, but it might make it interesting getting out of town on Sunday.

No turtles on my run today...

I got a little more sleep last night than I have the past few days, thanks to going to bed a bit earlier than normal and no storms waking me up in the middle of the night. My fun this morning was resetting my alarm so that it wakes me up a little before 5 a.m. tomorrow.

Kath- for a company name, how about Better Than Grandma's (can substitute Nana or similar) or Auntie K's or something? Can't help with the question about labeling and such, though, that's a lawyer question. Or a librarian question.

Turtle! Cute! I'm glad you moved him/her to safety, Bob!

Over Did It...funny!

Ann, that does sound like fun!

Well, they're still saying it too early to tell where Irene will end up once it gets this far. But they're saying we're likely in for rain and high winds. So I guess we'll just make sure the pool level is lowered a bit and put away the lawnchairs and such. We have our kit done with extra food and water, that sort of thing. Just in case.

Tonight we're going to a friend's place for a bbq. Their cottage is on the beach so the kids will enjoy playing there. Saturday is supposed to be gorgeous so I figure we'll just hang at the house, get a swim in. Sunday I'm doing the Cobequid Trail Half Marathon. I think I'm ready! Did a run last night and it felt good. Today is a rest day. Tomorrow is 5 miles. We'll see how it goes, I guess!

Greetings, all.

Bob - yah for saving turtles on the run! You da man!

Amichel - Rawr for getting power back and a double rawr for not having to toss stuff from the fridge/freezer.

Clarebear - Kick a$$ on that half!

No running for me yesterday. I suppose I could run the 3 tonight for speedwork, but meh. The other week, on my LR I had a newer pair of shoes (damned saucony progrid ride 14's!) and somehow had screwed up the lacing at the top. I wasn't planning on using the very top eyelets, but somehow I managed to thread the lace through the 2nd to last eyelet on the left side (Correct), but through the farthest eyelet on the right side (incorrect, and now with a funky angle), and that left me with a shoelace-too-tight feeling for the whole run, and an area that's still tender and a little swollen. Grr. I can't decide if I should just scrap the run tonight for some extra healing time or go for it.

With Irene closing in - be safe this weekend, everyone!!

Ooh - I love turtles. Especially leetle teeny ones.

Kath - she should be okay as long as she doesn't make any claims that she can't substantiate (i.e. will cure arthritis).

Nice to see 2oh stop in.

Theia and goV are getting married soon! I hope they are both doing well.

I went to bed early last night too and was a little worried about my scheduled run this morning b/c my legs were tired and sore last night. Fortunately, I was good to go when I woke up. AND it was 55 degrees! Woot. I logged 15 easy miles. The best news is that the combo of high mileage and lower temps meant my HR was really low! Yay! I was hitting some big hills and my HR was maxing out at 155. Normally, I'd be at 170 or 175.

Man, it is nice when you start seeing actual training results. Getting excited for Chicago....

Morning all! I got out to meet a few other girls for 6.3 miles along the downtown bridges, it's nasty humid out but otherwise the temp is OK. Eager to see exactly what transpires with Irene, so hard to tell what the impact will be here and could really range depending on if any of the utilities and/or subways go out. STAY SAFE ALL!!!

Amy – glad the power is back

Fingers crossed for Ann’s bro!

Good luck this weekend Clare!

Brandy - my long run has 14 at GRP too. Yikes. I am feeling pretty beat up from all of this volume, so I'm not sure it is going to happen. I was interested in Tim's training where GRP miles are in a separate run. I may try to do that, but next week. Although if I get some decent sleep the next 2 nights, I may be up for it. The bike/bar thing sounds fun!

Fun: peanut butter cookies for my mid morning snack.

Everyone stay safe! I always loved the anticipation of a big storm - hopefully it will not be too bad.

morning peeps.

Wondering whether this storm is really going to affect us in Boston like it's supposed to in NYC and Providence (and farther south.) I have to admit...I'd be thrilled if it meant I didn't have to go to work on Monday. We shall see. Between my fridge and my upstairs neighbors (who are away), I think I've got enough food for an army, so I should be fine there. I told my temp roommate that he should plan to park his car in the empty bay in the garage just in case Sat/Sun, since our 'hood has tons of trees and better safe than sorry.

Nice running, everyone!

Kath, I'd love to try the itch balm...the eczema on my hands is flairing and nothing is helping much right now. (I blame this on stupid Burt's Bees reformulating every single one of the skin care products I use...damn it!)

My art project is done! I'm pretty happy with it and I'm looking forward to seeing it displayed. I'll take pix once it's installed in the show. :)

Hurricane QOD- is your name on the list of hurricane names? Has your name been retired from the list? This page gives not only the Atlantic hurricane names (which are recycled every 6 years) but also for hurricanes/tropical cyclones in other areas of the world. Retired names are here.

My name (Kris/Kristen) is not included in the Atlantic names, although Chris is. Kristy and Cristina are on the Eastern North Pacific list of names. Chris is on the Fiji area names. Crising is on the Philippine list.

That's a sharp looking rig!

I don't see my name or the girls' on that list but I do see DH's. And there's an Eva, which some of my family use for Evelyn.

Speaking of Evelyn, she was up til 4 AM last night. I really don't know what to do here. I'm taking her to the doc on monday afternoon for her check up and I'll ask him if he has any ideas. I'm getting pretty burned out here.
