It's finally Friday. An easy, less humid run this morning. Humidity was down to 69% after being in the 90's the rest of the week. Same course as yesterday but I was almost a minute and half quicker today. My average pace dropped to a 9:16 today.

Morning...

FB - Relief! Hope those humidity numbers continue

Jill - Nice running even if you don't listen to yourself.

Kevin - Hope the run went well

Well, I'm officially over the flu and it appears the thyroid has normalized. Second day of feeling normal. Will do something on Sunday and Tuesday then off to the East coast. I don't want to have to start walking/running AGAIN though its been 41/2 weeks since a run. Maybe I'll start with like 20 easy minutes?

My less is more taper strategy (an excuse for being lazy and not getting up) seems to be leaving my legs a bit fresher. With 8 days to go I have no idea what I can run. My head says go with 3:20 to just get the BQ but 3:10 sounds so tempting but I don't want to crash and burn.

Anyway, I may pop down to the work gym and trot on the TM later as I don't have any cold weather gear with me - it's in the 30s.

Dan - good news! Yeah, something light to get the legs working

kfuller - enjoy the 5'er

Jill - are you sure you are not running down hill both ways?

FB - humidity is a pace killer. Glad that you are getting some relief.

Friday, sweet Friday...

It's a cool, blustery day here...about 50 or so and windy. I have a bag packed the for ol' midday trot, but I may hold off on that so I can cut out of the office early and get down to the MCM expo. I'd rather do that today than tomorrow when it is sure to be packed. I don't have much planned for the run anyway, just 3-5 miles or so. I could bag it today and just jog it out tomorrow.

10k Race day of course, is Sunday morning, and it looks like it will be a little on the frosty side...around 40-42 at race time. That's about as cool as it's gotten so far around here. I'm thinking short sleeve tech shirt, instead of singlet, and gloves. I don't know though, if it's going to be windy I may opt for singlet + arm warmer sleeves.

FB - nice run and glad you got some relief on the humidity

Jill - way to let those dogs run

kevin - have a good 5

Dan - excellent news! I say go for it -- but keep it easy out there.

RA - when's your race? Next weekend right? Like you I'm still mulling over "the goal" for NYC. My standard high goal for quite a while now, has been 3:10. PR is 3:20. BQ for my AG is 3:30. I think #1 will be extremely difficult on this course, but #2 is attainable if I run smartly. Depending on the conditions and how the day goes I would still take #3...I have to admit for much of this season I was wondering if even making #3 was a stretch. But I seem to putting it all together late in the game, and am feeling much more confident now.

So I guess I'm settling on 3:20...3:20:40 to be more precise (PR by 1 second).

I am back from my run. It was a nice run this morning. 5 miles in 40:49(8:09). I wanted to put in some speed so the last mile was 6:54. It felt good to get the legs going fast. Lot better than when my legs felt like logs a few days ago. Have a great morning everyone.

Dan--that is great news!!!

First post-thon run this morning. 40*, overcast and a bit breezy. Time to break out the hat, windbreaker, and gloves! Neighborhood 4 just wasn't going to do it, so headed out of the neighborhood for a short 6 on my favorite route. Felt very good!!! Ended up just slightly slower than MP. Now why couldn't I do that on Sunday?! Oh, gee, maybe because today was 30* cooler?! Got home at 8:55. We had to leave for son1's dentist appt at 9:00, he was still in bed, dogs hadn't been pottied, and obviously I needed to shower! Somehow we made it.

On the run there was a cop on speed patrol. I stopped and asked him to please do this more often--it's 35mph, NOT 55! He said he had just gotten someone doing 60. He was sitting just outside a school zone and lights were flashing... On my way back through, less than 10mins later, he had already stopped someone. And out way to the dentist, he had someone else. Ya think we have a problem here?!

Saturday Nov 6th in Indianapolis. So, you'll have a time to beat on the 7th I'll probably make a call on pace at 7:59am. Gun is 8:00am. Most likely I'll lag behind the 3:10 pace group until 10k and see what happens.

3:20 sounds a good goal for you. From what I've heard and seen on TV, the course is tough so you have a chance to pull ahead for a PR and a fade buffer to re-BQ. Maybe your weekend 10k will give you the answer?

Yep, that's pretty much what I'm looking for this weekend, a good indicator race. Emerging NYC strategy right now is to shoot for a negative split...keep it dialed back early...shouldn't be too hard while gaining 160 ft elevation in Mile 1. But the steep downhill off the Verrezano Bridge into Brooklyn could be a real death trap for later in the race. I'd be perfectly happy going 7:40ish for the first half, then seeing what I really have in me after the Queensboro Bridge (15).

But all that said...if I can bust out a sub-40 this Sunday, I might start feeling a little more aggressive about next weekend.

Very funny RA. Well, I just ran into my favorite 2:20 marathoner, Mark Will-Weber (use to write for RW) and go-to person for coaching advice and tips and he suggested that perhaps I am breaking into a new fitness level. I told him, perfect! Exactly what I'd hope for right about now. We'll see.

Jill - Awesome! I wish I was breaking into something. The wine fridge or liquor cabinet perhaps?

Anyway, I went and did it... ran on the TM. Last time I went down to the gym at work in the quiet afternoon hours some guy with horrific BO was there. That scarred me. Today it was clear. 5 miles with 4 * 400 because I was bored.
