ran 9.5, some of it quick with a friend who showed up at the meetup.com running group and wanted to brag a little.

then i changed a flat on my bike, turned around, and it was flat again... so i rode my clunker into work, the one with lead pipes for a frame. 22mi running, 21mi cycling in the past 24 hours.

going to see michael franti in concert tonight... he's great!

maybe I should go back outside and run another quarter of a mile, just to be twins with mc today?

9.25 miles. today's mantra was "i believe in my legs". that was for the last half mile or so up my hill home from the park. it worked. i got home.

OK, enough with the no-caps thing, it gives me the willies to type like that.

Lots of friendly people in the park today, love that. As I was coming up a slight incline in the latter third of my run, a tall and brawny Adept Running Man passed by me, gave me a huge bright smile and a big thumbs up, calling out "good work today!" to me. I returned the smile, but have no idea who the guy was. Had he seen me running earlier? A different day? Was he part of the local running group that I trained with on Tuesday nights this past summer? Either way, he was Adept Running Man and obviously knew his shtuff, so I'll take the compliment in stride (ha! get it? stride??). OK, obviously refueling is in order now....

Good Lord tw! That must have given you an adenaline rush!

OM, ADM prolly just knows quality when he sees it.

Hi Pink!

My boss is a beginner golfer, but seems to really enjoy the game. No, I couldn't let him beat me. It would have been too transparent and condescending. That's ok, though, he benchpress 2x what I can do....and his paycheck is heavier than mine.

11 miles this morning. Low 60's, overcast and humid. It was an OK run, although I don't compare well to past years. I must be getting old. 8:18 avg pace. Tried to keep a level 75% effort. The good news is there was plenty left in the tank. I hope The Cape is cooler and drier next week, but that's unlikely.

Carry on,

Morning all....thanks for the birthday greetings & positive comments on my failed attempt at 60K the other day.

mc.....I've seen Michael Franti & Spearhead a couple of times. That should be a great show.....however, if the audience in your area is similiar to those around here, ..........try not to breath too deep.

nice running lately, OM, are you training for something specific??

40 minutes, about half a brisk walk, the other half an extremely slow jog.

Afternoon, all!

Glad you missed that little gaffer, TW! Scary indeed!

No run for me today, as I start into taper for next weekend's 25K. PT went at my knee this morning... I think it's getting better, but it's been a bit achy this afternoon for some odd reason. Will see my RMT after work for some more pain.

I gave away a pair of Salomon XA Pro trail shoes this morning that I'd gotten really cheap back in the winter and decided that they weren't right for me. My hawt cycling friend in marketing has decided he wants to try running, and wants to start on the trails he walks his dog on. Surprisingly he has the same shoe size as me and is thrilled at the prospect of running in something other than his hiking shoes. Problem is he's a complete newb and tore his calf rather badly a few years ago when he attempted to do this before. Of course he never let it heal properly so now doesn't get that he's going to have to deal with the scar tissue. I'm trying to give him some tips on how to ease in with a walk/run routine, not to run up the hills initially, using compression socks, self massage on the soleus with the opposite knee, not to stretch before running or when it hurts, etc. etc.. Sigh. I think I have a project on my hands.

John, please don't use positive & failed in the same sentence. You didn't fail, remember?

Mike, I bet he bench presses 3x what I do, or more. I did those and the rest of my circuit workout this morning, but only 2 sets for 32 minutes worth, which was enough. I'm benching 25 lb. dumbbells now, with about 10 reps per set. DW finally admitted the other day that she can actually see my deltoids now. Yoga was awesome as always.

Tonight we're goin' to the rodeo. Got my boots on. Maybe I'll git me an Indian taco.

I went to pick up my race number and t-shirt for the 5th Avenue Mile today.

I was able to walk the course afterwards, checking out landmarks and trying to imagine myself on Sunday in a positive frame of mind at each point.

Obsessive, I know, but I'm in with a remote chance of breaking 6 minutes. I'll be happy with anything sub 6:13 for a PR.

What he said. And then some.

No, I'm not training for anything in particular. I feel I should be, though, given my mileage as of late, but honestly, races still scare me. So I'm just running because I can, and because it makes me happy. An end of itself. It's my yoga these days.

Yeah, what's with the fear and loathing? Imagine all you can be and go for it.

Yeah Heme, what we'll do for newbies. Or is it because he's hawt?

Good luck BAP. I've never ran a timed mile before. It actually sounds kind of fun to me.

Indian taco? Is that something I'll find in the Urban Dictionary that I don't really want to know about?

Franti is someone who appears to have accidentally crossed-over to my alternative rock radio station last year. I Googled him, and that made me wish I had heard him sooner.

Nothing for me today running wise as I rest for tomorrow's 10K. I got my annual flu shot. I need to try to exchange a golf putter I won at a tournament last week. It's a right handed one, and I play left handed. I think I can get store credit so I can buy something I want. And I think I have a cold. The last one I had was six years ago, so I'm not really familiar with the symptoms. But I pretty much don't let myself get sick since I don't have time for it.

BAP, sub 6 possibility? You have certainly improved. Good for you! Go for it.

Irun, 11 at 8:18 is a darned good run, well done.

About 5 very early this morning, so I could be home for the new washer and dryer guy. I am still tired, but I at least understand why I am tired. I am convinced next week will be fine.

Guess what movie we rented for Riblet to see tonight? "Airplane" with Peter Graves, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges and Barbara Billingsley who "can speak jive." Kareem Abdul Jabbar as the co-pilot? "And don't call me Shirley." I laughed all over again! Spareribs

It's like any other taco but the shell is flat and made with fry bread. The beans are whole pinto beans, which is the bulk of it with just a little meat sauce. It was really good. The rodeo was a little disappointing because it was just bull-ridin' and no ropin' or barrel racin'.
