Two days in a row!

Good morning, all!

I'm up to run yesterday's run at 6:00 instead of 7:00 in the hopes that it won't be so bad out there. It rained on and off yesterday, but my house is uncomfortably warm. It's only 74*, so hopefully I can get my big, bad 30 minutes in.

How anyone can mix up Ole' Miss and the Stillers is beyond me

Back when I complete this sucker!

Morning Prae and all who follow....

I also skipped my early morning run yesterday and had to do it on the TM. SO, I am up today to get it in on a real road. Outside. It's also rather warm in here despite the AC and ceiling fans going non-stop. Yahoo weather widget says it's 76* out there and the sun's not even close to being up. Eating some yummy Kashi oatmeal while I wait. Going out for 4 miles. Then we have a morning-long meeting at another school. I just can't wait to get my classroom finished! I got lots done in that regard, but now I need to finish up and get lessons planned, etc for next week. Well, at least for monday!

Anywho, oatmeal's getting cold. Hope everyone has a great day! Woohoo!! Thursday! (positive thinking!)

A little less sticky out there than Tuesday's run, a dewpoint of 70 degrees down from 72 2 days ago. I just ran a recovery jog today of 2.75 miles, taking it easy on my legs after Tuesday's tempo run and in view of my upcoming long run on Saturday to get me halfway to or slightly beyond halfway to half-marathon distance.

Yup, yesterday was a bad day. Not only did I get yelled at at work, but I missed my run. Taking a 2.5 hour baby class kinda gets in the way of things. I'll try to do the run today, but we've got another baby class, which means I'm likely to miss this too. Oh well, at least today is a scheduled off day, so it'd only be one total run that I miss.

Have a great day everyone. I'll check back in some time this evening...

Hey everyone.

Have a 6 miler planned for tonight. Hopefully I'll get to do it outside although I just checked the weather and they're calling for rain this afternoon and tonight. So I may be on the treadmill instead.

DD1 lost her first tooth last night. That was exciting. She was cute with the whole thing. Put it under her pillow and the tooth fairy paid her a visit last night. She hasn't woken up yet to see what was left for her.

In other exciting news a friend gave us tickets to the "Wiggles" in concert this Saturday. They're like the Beatles of kids groups. They don't come on tour very often so getting the tickets isn't easy, but to get them for free is pretty cool. I think DW is going to take DD2 & DD3. DD1 is getting too old for them so she'll hang with me and we'll do something else.

Have a great day everyone!

Wow! Am I glad that's done! According to my Garmin -- 2.52 miles in 30:29. When I mapmyrun.com'd it, it said I went much less distance, though, as usual, the trails aren't marked, so I had to guess. Pacer's pipe cleaners passed me TWICE, even though I turned around first and walked up a ginormous hill (up which he apparently ran ). An even cuter guy ran up the hill too, so I got a nice view there .

I'm currently having another "How am I ever going to run this 5k?" morning, and I need a little kick in the @ss. Here are my arguments:
(1) I hit a wall around 27:30 and it's all I can do to keep running to 30:00.
(2) I've never run more than 2.75 miles and that was mostly downhill or flat.
(3) It starts at 9:00 am, and I've never run later than 7:30.
(4) It's on August 25.

Reasons why I can run it:
(1) I never admit defeat.

I guess I'm just amazed when people like Voo say, "The wheels fell off and I could only run 5 more miles." (I'm not picking on you, Voo). When my wheels fall off, I can barely run 5 more minutes. I know I'm a new runner, and I can't expect miracles, esp. with all the extra weight I'm carrying around, but (sadly) running is the only thing that's I'm excited about and where I'm sticking to my goals (I'm about 6 weeks behind on my dissertation plan), so I want to be really successful, and not just "making good progress."

Ok, I'll be done now. Thanks for letting me go a little nuts this morning.

I don't know the metric conversion for sweat, but the end of my ponytail is wet, so I know it was many whole men and women.

Thunderstorms called for today. It's going to be fun!

Hey kids. I got nothing for ya today! Felt like complete carp all day yesterday and it didn't get better when I got home. I do think I beat Maria in the bad tv show catagory, I watched a show on beach beahvior (speedo vs board shorts, highbrow topics like that), then San Quenten Lockdown, then a true crime thing about a small town called Big Fork. What a day!

Hoping to get some sort of workout in today but still feeling craptastic!

Prae never underestimate the rush of racing! I think you will be so caught up in the atmosphere that you will cross the finish line before you know it!!!! You can totally do this!!!!

Ok, off to the lab. My goal for the day is to avoid puking during my presentation this morning. I have such lofty goals!!!

Good morning 30-somethings.

I have to head up the Merrimack River trail later this morning. I have a 14 miler scheduled today. The weather is a lot better than yesterday. Much less humid.

Not much else going on today. Enjoy your day folks.

Didn't have to mess with the subway this morning as I traveled down to Philly. Things do appear to be closer back to normal. Decided to sit out last night's recovery run; something in my right thigh wasn't happy and I don't wanna risk injury at this point. I think it was a combo of my weights session on Tues followed by 9 mi on the TM. My body doesn't like too much of the TM. Back outside tonight for a later evening 11 miler w/some strides.

Prae - perhaps it's time for a mantra that you can chant to yourself while running? That helps push me through the tough times ...it can be anything! As for running the 5K distance when you've previously not run that far, the race day atmosphere is a magical one. Much of the adrenaline you've got going from that alone will push you over the finish line - and of course posting back here and letting us all gush over your big accomplishment!! Hang in there, you're doing great!

Good morning peeps

Just a quick check in before I hit the shower and get ready for work. Planning on heading over to the Y for some time on the 'mill and some weights.

Beaker hope you feel better today!

Prae Its natural to have doubts and fears about running a race or new distance. Weve all been there. Like Maria says, you just need to adopt a mantra and stick to it, although I like your attitude of you wont accept defeat. That in itself should be good enough. ANd yes come race day, youll get sucked into the whole energy of things and next thing you know the finish line will be right there and you'll have finished the 5k before you know it.

Time to hit the shower ( im not even sweatin like 10 whole men either )

Ill check back later

G'morning everyone. Up for a 5M recovery while it's still cool-ish.

Sorry about your craptastic day boB. You'll be missed around here during the workday! Snooping bastages.....

Lori, a day without puke is, well, a day without puke, I guess. I got nothing this early in the morning. Good luck with your presentation!

You'll do great in your 5K, Prae. Like others have said, the race day adrenaline will get you through, and if it doesn't, what's the worst thing that can happen? Maybe you walk a bit. We've all had those moments. And I'm sure you probably know this, but it's best not to compare yourself to the seasoned veterans here that have been doing this a lot longer than you have. Especially Voo, who is one tough summa-beatch. If it helps at all, when my wheels fall off it's all I can do to stay upright keep moving forward.

Enough...time to run my miles....

ETA: mornin' Frankie and Maria, and everyone else I missed. It's too early to think straight...

Morning all -

boB - hope the Internet Nazis give you a repreive. As far as time for baby prep classes, I think the most important parenting skill to learn is how to juggle priorities and time. Your life is changing, and it's gonna be great, but there will be adjustments. How is Maggie feeling with this heat?

Good lord you are a better father than I. I would rather stick a rusty butterknife in my ear than go to a Wiggles concert. Although they have sold more records than any other Australian group (they passed the BeeGees a few years ago. Yes I need to get a life.)

prae Some good advice already. Maybe you can go to the race course and walk it before hand. Do not run it. This will alleviate some of your nerves because you will have one less unknown on race day, plus you will know that you can cover the distance walking, so running is the same thing, just faster. And here is your kick in the ass you asked for:

Good luck with the no puking thing.

10K running this morning. Much better weather conditions. Legs are tired - I have run every day this week - 3, 8.5, 5.5, 6.2 miles. Taking tomorrow off, but with my LR on Saturday, should end up with a 35 mile week.

Morning Peeps

I got in 4 miles this morning (6.484K) good run. Happy. I went out with some of the Crazies last night. Nice. It's been a while. Nothing too wild just drinks and finger food. Dentist this morning. BLech....

Here we go:

Scratch, Love! I found your arctic air. 57*F with a dewpoint of 50*F.

That my dear is the reason you need to be focusing on. The others don't matter if you have that one in the bag. You're gonna be a star!

boB: better day today, big daddy!

LLFairyberg: Congrats on the tooth and the tix. now I have Head and Shoulders knees and toes, knees and toes stuck in my freakin' head.....CRAP!!!

Heather How was the cake?

Lori: Feel better

What it do, folks?

Nuther hot soupy day here in the 614. Yuck. It is so thick out there, man. I can't breath!!!

Still working on my list. Pops called and asked if I wanted to ride down to the river (the Ohio) to pick up some furniture for my mom's shop. How can you pass up nearly 5 hours in a car with your daddy? Well... I can't. We analyzed the cavs, my adviser, jealous spouses, and french fry cars and the environment. We both want french fry cars.

In other news... I found 5 of these suckers on my two tomatoes last night. They not only totally skeeved me out (see skeeved out-friggin-hurry-up-and-take-this-im-gonna-pee-my-pants face) but did a helluva lot of damage. There was serious swearing to be heard in the Roo garden last night.

Im heading to the gym today. Not even sure I can run when I can't catch my breath playing ball with Hank....

Prae
You'll be slow, maybe, but no body gives a flaming booger. My first race, I got passed by a lady with a double jogger and by some freakishly tall (uh, and I'm 6') dude who was fast walking. About 2 years ago I blew out a muscle in my hip and 2 docs said I wouldn't run again and was looking at hip replacement. I am s.l.o.w. Went from running 9's and 10's to 15's and 16's when I came back. I ran my first 5k in 39 minutes and was tickled out of my mind because I got down to 12's (closer to 13's but still.....). I am stuck with low 12's on a good day very high 11's. I don't walk as fast as I used to and I'm not sure I'll ever get much faster. This could be frustrating as 2 1/2 years ago I was at 9 somethings and not training very hard. No body I knew could catch me sprint distances....like to catch a bus. But instead, I am thrilled that I can put one Nike in front of the other. You're doing fine. Even if you finish last, you're faster than the lard ass who is at home eating lucky charms for breakfast.

Lori I think that is an admirable goal and your audience should greatly appreciate it.

Larry congrats to the toothless wonder! that's a big deal, let us know what she thinks about a tooth fairy visit.

Prae...I was nervous about my 1st 5K, too. Just put one foot in frontof the other and not let the other runners get to you (e.g., if you feel like you're dfl or whatever b/c you're out there doing something that most people cannot do / would not do). Oh, and don't wear a watch if you hit the wall at 27:00 -- maybe you're too used to looking at the time.

5 on the tmill last night. Running and cycling tonight. Weather is finally a bit cooler (high of mid-80's w/ dewpoint in the 60's). Maybe we'll go to the lake and swim in lieu of cycling.

Bob...enjoy the baby classes!

Winter, that sounds just lovely if it could get to here by Saturday. I've got my longest run yet coming, dewpoint of 50 degrees or 75 degrees. I'd prefer the 50. Call me crazy like that.

Prae- I remember those days, and it does get better. I promise! You will do a great job on your 5k. I predict that you will have a better finish time than my 1st 5K (which was 40:26). I was able to run the whole way, despite never having run longer than 2.5 miles previously.

Good morning!

I am such a slacker. Big time. Did not run yesterday for no good reason other than "I don't wanna" and probably will not run today because of work and more "I don't wanna". So there goes another week of only getting in my weekend long runs.

The Crim is going to be Teh Suck, I just know it.

I am trying to decide if I have a cold or allergies. Leaning toward allergies. Regardless, I have some sinus issues and my throat keeps getting irritated (that annoying itchy tickle that won't go away) and making me cough. I'm supposed to be giving a presentation this afternoon, and I gotta decide if I can manage to talk for 20 minutes without having to take a zillion breaks.

You so want to be Canadian right now! I know it. You don't fool me.

I'll try blowing it down your way, but I make no promises, it's not exactly my call at this time of year....

Best of luck on your long run, whatever the conditions may be.

Morning!

Winter Thanks...keep them coming!

Prae Don't fret at all - you'll sail through the race no problem. The rush of the race is still amazing to me - what feels like a super-human pace in training feels like floating in a race. And besides, you need to get in shape for the Steelers 5k so you can finish on Heinz Field (I think it's late Sept? When I did that race it was July)

Brutal workout this morning - met a friend for 6 miles at tempo. We'd planned to do ~6:20-6:30 the first 3 and then try and pick it up - the first half mile we're huffing and puffing - 3:26! We got it down to 6:41 for the mile, then 6:28, 6:28, and coming back we picked it up to 6:09, 6:10, and I finished with a 5:55 (he dropped back a little). I'm pretty tired now - don't know if it's from the workout, the 4:50am wake up call, or the barfing child all night (talk about tough to fall asleep when you're afraid you might get puked on at any second!). I'm hoping to catch a nap later!

Later!
