We just lost our baby girl, Eve. Being childless, she was more than just a dog to us, we treated her like a child. She was just over 12 years old, 11 of which, she was part of our family. She went almost everywhere with me and had a permanent bed and seatbelt in my car. Always underfoot, she wanted to be part of the action and with either me, or my wife no matter what we were doing. My best friend, and constant companion, I don't know what I will do without you.

Physical pain is so much easier to bear than the emotional pain I'm going through right now. Wrecking my bike and then having to run a marathon, was nothing compared to this.

I know there are many animal lovers on this board, so you can sympathize if I am not around for a while.

Ohhhhhh...I'm so, so sorry. It amazes me how our critters can hold such a huge place in our hearts. Eve was very lucky to have you as her friend and guardian for so many wonderful years. She was in the best hands possible...big hugs to you!!!!!!!

It's always tough when your pet leaves you.(I've been there). The sadness you are having now will be replaced by the memories of the fun and love Eve gave you all. She will always have a place in your heart, which is as it should be.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Our "pets"...they really are family. When they're not home, there is a giant hole...a part of our lives, our joy is missing.

Hopefully, memories of Eve will bring a smile to your face and, someday, you'll find another special canine with whom to share your life.

Not sure you've read about the Rainbow Bridge. This makes me cry every time I read it, but it also brings some comfort. I also read somewhere that the reason we outlive our dogs is so that they are not left wondering to where we've gone. They are just never here long enough, it seems.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Having no children myself, I can appreciate the pain you are going through. I have been there and shed many a tear over the loss of my babies.

It doesn't get easier, you don't get over it. All you can do is know in your heart that you love her and you gave her the best life you could. Everything else is bullshit.

You can't replace her, but you can save another life.
