G'day Masterfuls,

I spent last night at Fenway Park, carbo loading. It apparently helped as I had the most awesomest tempo run this morning. Lungs, heart, and legs were all working beautifully. One of those magical runs. 8 miles, 8:02 avg pace.

Now to catch up on what amazing things you folks were up to this past w/e.

after researching Trekking Poles, turns out people ALREADY are running with them.

don't know about that,

but

I did 20-min on my NordicTrak

using some trekking poles my brother had sent me about 10 years ago

first time I had been able to use it IN A YEAR.

the poles

really support the hamstring,

which has been my major problem.

here's the technique

if anyone's interested.

Good on ya, TW! I always see many hikers using trekking poles and have thought to buy them but never have. They can be very expensive, at least round these parts.

I had PT this morning for the wonky hips and they're actually coming along, very slowly, but there is some progress. I had done a lot of spinning this weekend (3 classes) plus one run and 30 minutes of a yoga class.

All sorts of stress here at work already. Tomorrow I'm going to get up extra early and crank out a few miles, and I'm sure that will help with the stress, and my sleeping as well.

Enjoy your day, everyone, and run a few miles for me!

In 2 days it's DS2's birthday. He's turning 27.....my youngest child! Seems hard for me to believe.

This will be an easy cutback week. I didn't run yesterday and I won't run today either. Then I'll be out of town for a long weekend and, other than getting in an LR, the running will be hit or miss all this week. I'll probably be doing good to get 40 in. Next week though, will be the final TCM training week before taper and (achilles-willing) will be another BIG mileage week.

I jumped on the scale this morning and was shocked by what I saw. Too much weekend fun I guess. This needs to be rememdied soon or TCM will be slog jog.

Glad to hear your making progress, TW!

Hi Pink, Susan and bill!

30 minutes of spin this morning before work, followed by ~15 minutes of core work. Nothing special.

Pink, great run this weekend. The legs should feel heavy.

Happy cut back week Byll. Just one more hard week before taper time, eh?

Hemeroculus, those nothing special days are part of the training too.

Sorry to hear about your friend Gobi.

Tempo Tuesday for my wings this evening. I decided to sleep in today and do the running tonight after work.

I just read an interesting article in the NYT regarding the psychological effects of running on self-esteem and thought it was really good. If you're interested:

BigGahoona, TCM is a major meet-up for many in the Master's Forum. Spareribs is a Medtronics Hero for this race and many of us are going to celebrate him as well as each other. We gotta meet up somewhere!

Condolences to you, Gobi; very sorry to hear that.

Pink, I'm in the HL Club today, too! Just wiped out all around.

I posted a rant in RA about a guy who won the Eugene Women's half marathon (an inaugural event). He beat the top woman by one second. She ran a terrific, world-class 1:14:40 (that's a 5:42 pace), but apparently this yahoo had to have his moment of glory. In a women's race. jack-a$$.

What on earth did he do that for Econo? What poor judgment and taste.

Sorry for your loss Gobi.

There appear to be some plans for lunch at TCM on Saturday 10/2 but I doubt they have been finalized. Hoping to meet and reconnect with a lot of people. Aamos and a bunch of RA folks will be there.

Nice run Irun!

5.5 in a teeming rainstorm, unpleasant but it's done. Skipped my Y workout afterwards as I was drenched. Spareribs

Gobi, that is terribly sad news. I'm sorry for your loss.

CNY, holy moly, what amazingly fast company you keep. 6th in that crowd is tremendous. Moreover, cracking that 7-min barrier is just WOW. Congratulations!

Sorry about the result, mc. Better races to come.

Happy Days to the kids returning to school, and the teachers, profs.

5.5 easy, HR super low

3 x 3 sets of plyos I forgot to do on Saturday

Lovely light drizzle, super warm by the water.

Gobi, sorry for your loss.

I started the day with some sun salutations in the living room after everyone cleared out. At lunch I ran. The 3/2 run/walk thing is going well. Apparently it doesn't tighten up my calf as much and therefore aggravate the PF. Tried it again, this time on the treadmill, using 15:00 pace for the 2-min walk breaks. After doing the run portion easy for the first 2 mi., I cranked it up a notch each time for the next 2 mi. I felt like a runner again! The fastest I got was 8:57 pace so I don't think I overdid it. My overall pace was similar to many very easy runs I've done.

My condolences Gobi

5.5 miles in the woods this morning, featuring a milbot fast finish™. Probably shouldn't of done that as I'm still sore from the weekend.

Wowsa SS, Ernie Isley certainly shreds doesn't he?? I really should go through all my 70's vinyl

I don't think we have any plans set in stone yet either. We have a TCM Meet Up thread going in the 30's Forum and I posted there that you all were having a meet up too. I hope we can manage to meet up - perhaps post race festivities?

I might have spoken too soon. My DS, who saw the half marathon finish, said it appeared that the guy and gal came in together. And somehow he ended up with a faster time, but oh well.

I have good news to share, although way off topic. My youngest son, who is turning 27 on Thursday, was just offered a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto. His PhD is in inorganic chemistry, and he studies proteins (did you know that proteins are shaped like accordians?). He's written many articles and has contributed to a book on the topic. I'm extremely proud of him - can you tell? - although I'm sad that he'll be moving even further away from me. I had kind of been hoping he'd find a job somewhere within a short driving distance so that I could see him more often. I haven't seen him since 1 year ago today.

Anyway, just wanted to share our good news.
