I have a bike/run speed and Heart rate testing today. I need to do this as I go into my Time Crunched Triathlete program. The results are used to build the heart rate and effort zones. The program is 6 weeks long and is a 4x per week with lots of bricks.

And hey! Bonus - I upgraded to the Forerunner 305!

I got 5 easy (windy!) miles done this morning with 4 strides towards the end. Earth Day Half Marathon tomorrow. We're supposed to get 1 - 3 inches of snow. Ugggggg. Brandy - did you decide if you are running it? I'll look for you and Baggs.

Enjoy the 305, T. Good luck at the race tomorrow, RFTL. You're almost there, Maples.

I did an easy half hour run last night. I'll go a little farther today, but not much. Then maybe an hour or so tomorrow. Then one last week of taper, during which time I'm bound to go stir crazy, because I always do...

Tonya - that all sounds fun!

Cindi - snow?!?!? WTF? And I was complaining because it is supposed to start raining here soon. Good luck on the race! I am doing a 5K tomorrow and it is supposed to be super windy and rainy. I am looking forward to it anyway though.

Nice progress, Maples. Keep it up.

What up, BoB?

I slept in this morning. I am going to *try* to sneak out of work early to do a short run with DH around 5. Work has been crazy lately though, so we'll see if I can make it happen. No biggie if I can't. Today I am scheduled for a run I can miss if I so desire. The taper twinges have started already. Yesterday during my run my R hammy and calf spoke up a couple times. Then today my R hip has screamed at me a couple times. It is funny b/c I was just thinking the other day that it was odd that my hip didn't react after I logged that 75 mile week. I guess I spoke too soon. But I am glad it is starting. That means I should be healed up and ready to go in 2 weeks as scheduled. Fingers crossed.

Morning all! I met up with my 2 regular downtown bridges running partners w/1 other special guest runner this morning. Gorgeous start to the day and nice run, got 6.5 miles in. Yesterday's run home from the office was spoiled by 2 mtgs in our SoHo office which required me to bring my laptop, no way I'm running home with that thing on my back. I brought my running stuff w/me into work again today and am hoping for a run home to make it a double-Friday!

Keep it up Maples!

Moe thank you for the link to the photos. My mind is now swirling with questions. No fancy shoes, no running books or websites, not a training plan in sight- yet they did it. I just wonder how those folks from years past trained for their marathons. I think it would be fascinating to find out!

Way back then, the road running/racing community was very small. They runners/racers/athletes probably all had significant running (track) backgrounds because the "everyman" type of runner didn't exist. It wasn't until much later during running booms that regular people began to lace up there shoes and tackle the distance. I'm not sure when it was, but my guess is late 70s to early 80s when the little red book, jogging, came out and fueled one of the first running booms. If you google marathon participation, you'll find some trends from USA running that will show a severe increase in marathon participation over the last 30 years or so.

Greetings, all.

Bi/Tri/Thigh and Butt work is done for the day. I'll add some crunches and back work when I'm at home this evening.

Somehow a HM in snow sounds kind of fun to me - of course, I hardly ever see snow, so that certainly provides a different outlook. :)

Tonya - I lublublub my 305. I rarely run without it, actually.

I have a 10k tomorrow, assuming they don't cancel it due to conditions - thunderstorms roll in tonight and are expected to go through tomorrow until lunchtime. In fact, race-time shows a 60% chance of thunderstorms. Meh. I'll pack up and head there anyway. If they run the race and I think it's safe, I'll just strip off all my electronic gear and try to pretend I'm a kid playing in the rain.

Yo! Just signing on briefly - work has been insane lately and likely not getting any better (might be headed to a new company due to an acquisition announced last week) but since a few folks posted on FB about our world record attempt I thought I'd pop in...plus I know some others are running Boston this weekend so I thought it would be good to wish everyone luck (and apparently at other races as well!)

Click on Mr Universe for the latest news on this compelling drama. The long & short of it is that we will not risk a DQ and possible ban from Boston to run the record there which is extremely disappointing but we'll find a way to have fun anyway. Since Universal gave us so much coverage we will all still plan to wear our Celtics jerseys but we may have some form of protest during the run. I can't say I totally blame the BAA but it's very disappointing, obviously. Apparently they don't like Awesomeness!

I hope everyone has been well all these months since I've stopped posting - it's pretty tough to get on here during the day and with kids and all the evenings aren't much better. I've not gotten a big head and feel like I'm too good for you all, I'm just tapped on time (but if I were a WORLD RECORD HOLDER then I would have been justified to feel superior to just about everyone I know! ).

So what's new? Anyone doing the Pig? Pittsburgh? I'll try to get on here more frequently, at least to check in once in a while.

Yes, we are both running it. It isn't looking great weather wise but I think it'll be ok. Look for us in the gym from 730 on. :)

Good to see you, Pacer. Too bad about your tether thing. Maybe the BAA should be the Boring Athletic Association.

This reminds me, I remember when I was a kid, the Guinness Book of World Records had things that you might actually be interested in reading. Like the tallest man (almost 9 feet tall, if I remember right), the fattest twins (those guys on the motorcyles), etc. But I saw a recent copy of the Records book somewhere, and so many of the records listed now are so damn obscure. So maybe I shouldn't be surprised that there's a record for 5 people tethered together running a marathon. Is there a record for 6 people? 10 people? 30 people? Hell, we should find out how high this number goes, and then just go one higher. We can get a bunch of us to meet up at some random marathon somewhere, tie us all together, and run at a pace that a bunch of us can handle, like 5 hours. And if that's not good enough for the Guinness people, we can do something else while we're running, like yodeling. So maybe they'll qualify us as the largest number of people to run a marathon tied together while yodeling. I'm sure we can think of something...

This is obviously an issue of sexiness envy. Mr Vaitones is threatened by the group sensuality being expelled by these macho men and their willingness to be bound up for a three hour session of awesomeness while moving through his event at the blazing speed of 8.75 mph.

The problem with trying it at the Pig is that 4 of the 5 of us are pace leaders, and since I'm the pace team coordinator I'm pretty well locked in to pacing.

This is really spiralling out of control - a friend of a friend knows Bart Yasso and Dave McGillivray (RD for Boston) and they've sent emails on our behalf. I'm certain they're thinking "Just make these guys go away, PLEASE!" I'm keeping my head down while in Boston - I expect the BAA Mafia to take us out!
