Morning all!

Not that one needs much of a taper for a 12K race, but today is a rest day nevertheless. Which is just fine as we're looking at 30°C with 82% humidity here in TO!

The RD for Saturday's trail race sent out an email yesterday describing the course, which is a new venue for this series. This part caught my eye, and gave me a giggle....

"In the second km you will enter the forest. This km is a hilly, rooty, Godforsaken little patch of nature... you're going to love it. If you take it too aggressively or lose your focus, you WILL go to the ground. Tripping hazards everywhere. Brush up on your four letters words. You may need them."

Just the way I like it!!

Stay cool everyone!!

Sounds like a fun race Heme! Good luck but I'd suspect you don't know any four letter words.

Heme, I just laugh at how clumsy I am when I trip on trails. Have fun! Did my lifting and what a great way to start the day! Moving up to 15 lbs. now. No more sunken chest for me, I'm pumping so much iron. I'll RAW and glad to see we shouldn't go over 100. Sorry tomwhite & Pie Jones if those temps hit you over there.

A coworker just told me she suffered through PF, trying everything the doctors told her, until her husband bought her a night splint he had seen advertised in the Sky Mall magazine on a business trip. Dang, I knew I should have read that on my trip! She's going to see if she can find it to loan to me because it solved the problem for her. She's not a runner but has always been supportive of my running, unlike some coworkers who don't get it or don't care.

Opie, ask her how long till it was cured. From start to end, not from starting the splint.

I have a theory that no matter what you do it takes 9 months to heal.

15 pounds? I use 12 in each hand

Elliptical for me this morning, where is the dislike button?

A few days taper will help any race distance heme. Have fun as I'm sure you will!

Funny. I didn't see Ksrunr out there in the swamp when I was running today.

Opie, I really hope you get that PF behind you.

3.5 recovery miles at 10:17 pace. Avg HR 118

Our Company headquarters are on Long Island and they're having a Company Picnic this afternoon. So one of the Execs up there decided it would be nice for the office down here to have a picnic also. Nice thought I suppose. But the last thing I want to do in August in S. Fla. between 12:30 and 3PM in the afternoon is be outside.

Couldn't they have picked January or something? Uggg.

Oh well, a nice Lunch with friends will be had regardless.

Hey all -

hoping this goes through.. my internet is not happy in the summer! Have been running well.. a 6 miler a couple of weeks ago, a 4 miler last weekend, and couple of 3 milers (each week) before work in the hills by my house. Its all good :) Yesterday I was mapping my half schedule out, changing it a little.. :D

oh look it went through - I'll say more!!

TW - thanks for your comment on RA last week. I left a message for you over there.. seems I can post over there better than here for some weird reason. And yes! still stoked about the 6 miler! and yes! I know how I get, and am watching it :)

3 miler plus a little this morning in the hills.. no deer sightings today, but a family of jackrabbits & a pesky skunk. he seemed determined to spray me.. yikes! so I finally ended up turning and reversing my route on the loop. I did not want to get sprayed this morning..lol

KS..... I'm ex-military...you do the math!

Opie, I tried the night splint myself when I had PF, but I couldn't tolerate it after about 2 am. A Strasburg sock is another similar option that I hear is easier to use. Ultimately I think it was a combination of time (~5 months) and shockwave therapy that ultimately did the trick for me. I still do all kinds of mobility exercises and stretching before my feet hit the floor in the morning.

Hope that picnic is in the shade, Byll!

Mari, I envy you the nectarines.... we don't grow them up here locally, and imported aren't ever as good. My DH just loves them!

DH is totally bummed today that the deer wiped out what would have been our first decent crop of apples is some time.

Yes butterfly - she has returned to me one more time. They had a great time on their trip.

MrsG has PF and wear a splint, she has been out for 6 months so far. She can ride a bike and swim though. Recently she has started to run 3 miles twice a week so we shall see what happens. The road has been long. We have written off 2010 to giving it time to recover properly.

Heme - that is a great trail description

I've been cycling and running today which I guess is pretty normal. Will swim at the gym later

What does "40% chance of rain" mean? Today it meant rain for 40% of my commute.

when it says 40% chance of rain, I choose to say 60% of no rain.

Nancy, my beans are dwindling down. I think I'll do some more canning tonight, but now when I go picking, I'm only getting around 1/2 gallon size bag each time. I am wishing I was getting ripe tomatos by now though - how are you already having ripe cherry tomatos with the late start to summer we had out here?

I ran 4.7 miles last night - at home. A couple miles with one dog, Jasmine, (my other dog, Jade, who loves to run, well, I think her running days are over she gets too sore and gimpy just after wrestling and playing with Jasmine for 5 minutes) . I think I felt humidity in the air last night. It was probably around 50% when I ran! I re-started some stretching last night also after about 3 wks of really getting out of the habit of it. gosh, I don't have near the flexibility that I used to when I was stretching daily. I need to start back up with ab work again also. It's been so long that I bet 25 crunches will leave me sore.

Good afternoon, everyone. Another sweaty day here - it was 82 degrees with high humidity at 7:05 this morning! Yikes! I had PT for my wonky hips so I wasn't able to fit in a regular workout.

I ran a few miles yesterday and it went OK, but tomorrow I'll be spinning with my sweetie! It's our summer Friday tradition and I always enjoy it.

I've had PF since my teen years - when I wasn't running at all - but about 2 years ago the PT treated it with a "cold laser" and it got much, much better! I still wear orthotics daily, or almost daily (harder in the summer with sandals), but I must say my feet are so much better since the PT worked on them. Working with this guy has really helped me tremendously, I feel very lucky to have found him. My hips are slowly getting better, but it's a triple whammy with trochanteric bursitis, really tight IT bands, and arthritis, so it's taking a while to resolve. The yoga is helping it too but most weeks I can only fit in one class; I wish I could take a whole class more often instead of fitting in extra time at home. Maybe I could retire early???? (I wish)

Wouldn't it be nice to wake up one day and not have anything hurt at all? Not even a left eyebrow? LOL

Enjoy your day everyone and run a couple of miles for me. I'm planning a nice run on Saturday morning before yoga.

Heme, I'm a huge fan of tapering. It's my favorite thing about running.
Opie, I could write a dissertation on PF. When I get back to a real keyboard, I can share with you my experiences.

At our age and activity level if you wake up and nothing hurts you better check to see if you still have a pulse!

Unlike Millbot, I have had PF and I run shirtless, (I'm in doesn't care category)

Different things do work for PF I'm sure but, just some foot strengthening with the V5F put me on the recovery road quickly.

Heme, Bergier is wise, a couple rest/light easy running days before any race helps me feel fresh and springy.

After a week off, yesterday's run felt mostly just that. Unfortunately the hip just wasn't quite ready.

Lab, I hope Bendy makes it to Hood to Coast and Javelina. Do you know his race schedule yet?

Opie, I'm worried about your PF..... Take care, I need you healthy in a couple of months!

Heme, sounds like a great trail race. Have fun and don't fall down any ravines.

I'll be running 6 miles at lunch. The first 2 will be with my beginners. I'm fascinated with the topic that was brought up in the weekly about listening to your body and what pain really is. I think I'll discuss it with my beginners today. I wonder if their ideas about pain differ from what has been said on the weekly from more experienced runners.
