Is it bad only for people who have celiac disease or other sensitivities to it? I've seen a number of my acquaintances cut it out of their diets. If I am not (to my knowledge) sensitive to gluten, is there a benefit to eliminating it?

Its only bad for people who are sensitive but its really trendy to blame any real or imagined intestinal issue on gluten nowdays. If you arent sensitive enjoy your bread!

There are so many people around because we thrive on anything.
We have been eating wheat for more than 12,000 years. If you personally haven't had any problems with it, history would indicate it won't kill you.

Some people who don't have celiac disease will say they lose weight, their skin clears up, they feel better, etc. when they eliminate it from their diet. Probably that's due to making more careful choices - gluten's in a lot of processed stuff.

There is a simple gluten intolerance condition that will cause unpleasant but harmless symptoms like bloating, etc., as well as celiac disease which is more severe and damaging to the GI tract.

Some people are sensitive to gluten without having full blown Celiac. That would be me. I do not eat anything with gluten, and I do notice a difference. Really though, it is a PITA so if you aren't having a problem, I wouldn't worry about it.
