I am working on my mtn. bike brakes for the weekend and the squeal is the last thing I have yet to fix. I have cleaned my rims and now thinking I need to adjust the pads. Is this right? Is it an easy adjustment? Is there anything else I should look at?

Make sure they make first contact with the rim at the back end of the pad. If they make first contact at the front (toed in) they will honk. Or is that not the issue? If they squeal steadily while braking, you may need to pull them off and sand them down a tad to roughen them up (I know your mtn bike has been sitting a while).
