hubby and I are still in ... and I'm very excited about it ... and my tendon is healing well, I think ... I got in over 70 miles in the last week (very slow for most of it, but miles are miles!) :)

we're getting into the area Wed 13th and leaving the following Wed ... hoping to meet up with some of you ... we're planning on trying to do a mild-mannered kayak excursion in the days before the race and hoping for a whitewater experience our last day in town ... let me know if either are something you'd also like to do with us :)

hehehehe ... I've seen RNYT and Jim's conversations about the snow .. and a friend that paced at WS was in Tahoe yesterday and said she kept getting off trail due to losing track in the snow ... local sites say the snow is still there but MAY be clearing by mid-July, hahahaa

I do think we may have to forego the extreme whitewater if the waters are still dangerously high like I read they recently were :-(

I'm thinking maybe I should bring my YakTrax and hubby his screwshoes, bwahahahaaaa

I'm VERY excited!!! hubby got a droid a couple months ago so if some plans get made we can contact one another ... if that sounds good we can exchange #'s in a PM :)

I downgraded to the measly 50k race. I feel like a wimp but think it is the right move considering I had to walk the last 5 miles of Ice Age due to my knee. I'll try a 50M again this fall

I'm hoping to run it pretty hard, though not sure how the altitude will affect me. I have done Leadville so I do have some experience mountain running but that was different in that I walked all of the uphills. At Tahoe I'm hoping I can run a lot of it, but we'll see.

Anyone with advice?

Tips from Jimbo

1. At 5am (for 100 milers) or 6am (for 50k or 50m) it will feel cold for us summer trained East Coasters -- bring a sweatshirt that you can lose (or drop in your drop bag). I wore arm panties for the first few miles.

2, Sun screen. I even got sun burn through my shirt.

3. Between Bull Wheel and Diamond Peak (50 milers and 100 milers only) -- it is 9 miles. One handheld water bottle is not enough. Two probably won't cut it either. I will have a 70 oz hydration pack and a 20 oz handheld. That was only just enough.

4. It hit 90 degrees last year, and was very exposed -- it is a dry heat, so ice around the neck is really really effective to keep cool, (a knee high stocking filled with ice, then wrapped around with a bandana is my method). Ice early and ice often. The aid stations had buckets of cold water. Very effective way to cool off. I saw a lot of people suffering in the heat, last year.

Don't forget a camera!

As oer JJ's comments, heat seemed to be the limiting factor for the 50M & 50km (& a few 100M suffered as well).

Ask for ice at the aid stations. The boy scouts will have popsicles!!

I'm soooooooooooooo freakin' stoked!!! double checked our reservations yesterday and am going to start packing this weekend (maybe today, hahaha)

I am confused about the weather cautions since I've been tracking Lake Tahoe, NV wx on weatherchannel for the past month and it tops out in the upper 60's to mid 70's like clockwork ... and the extended forecast is more of the same ... am I somehow missing something??? I'm having a hard time finding snow reports kept current but the mountain bike links seem to be best for trying to piece together trail usability news ...

I sure hope to meet you all .. and gumbee ... maybe my hubby, you and I can get together for dinner or something on Thursday evening? we might go for a kayak tour that day ... or maybe, if you're into that sort of thing we could all go for an evening lake tahoe paddle at sunset - how COOL would THAT be?!??! :) btw - this offer is open to any takers, the green one is the only one I know is going to already be in town :p

my darned foot and sometimes back of knee are still giving me caution warnings and we'll just have to take what we get but I am very stoked to be doing the 50k with my sweetie and seeing some of the most gorgeous trail scenery I'll ever have a chance to witness ... and I hope to rope hubby into sticking around and cheering on my friends running the 50M and 100M versions ... if I were healthier I'd be all over picking up a pacer shift after my 50k but that just isn't in the books this year :-(

I'm so happy so many of us are still planning to attend ... very, very COOL *gigantic grin*
