Since I have nothing catchy to start off the thread, I leave you with this:

Morning!!

Today is my Friday! Woot woot! I will be working 4 day weeks will I have this baby, so excited by that!! SO since I most likely won't be here tomorrow ...KJ I am thinking wonderful thoughts for you, hope everything goes smoothly and can't wait to see pics of the little guy!

What else?! Hmmm nothing I guess. Little man has a cold so he was really sluggish and clingy last night, hope another day of resting perks him up!

QOD: This came up at work yesterday...if you moved from the area you live in now, what regional food would you miss the most?! Could be a place you go that has the best menu item or something more generic. This came up because I was professing my love of soft pretezels and how no one can make 'em like Philly can!

QOD - I think I'd miss the steaks.

QOD: Northern Jersey has a lot of good Portuguese food. (The fact that my wife is Portuguese means we eat it fairly often). Along those lines, I lived in the South for three years, but I've been up in NJ for about 15 years now. And I still miss southern biscuits. I don't know what it is, but nobody in the North can make a biscuit like they do down South...

I heard on the radio that today is the birthday for Julia Roberts, Joaquin Phoenix, the Statue of Liberty, and my mom! Well, I didn't hear about my mom's birthday on the radio, but the others I did...

Good Morning!

I was watching Gladiator the other night and was thinking how far removed from that movie Joaquin is now.

QOD: I'd miss pizza rolls. Well, my hips wouldn't, but I would. For those of you who have never experienced the deliciousness that is a pizza roll, it is a small pizza folded over, sealed and deep fried. Best eaten after a few many drinks.

Morning all

waiting patiently for 330 to come around so I can head down to MKE to spend time with Craig. I love having 4 day work weeks. Love them!!

QOD There is a family owned burger drive in near my parents and when I would come back home to visit I would drive right passed my parents house to go to the burger stand first and then come home and visit them. It's only open during the summer so there were a couple of years that I didn't get to go there. I can't really think of anything else that I'd miss to much. I'm not a kraut and sausage person so unless it's cheese curds I'm pretty ok with being away from home

BEAKS!! remember last year at OBX LL got us Philly pretzels? Those things kick ass! So yummy!

QOD: Arni's pizza for sure. Yum. Most other local faves I can find a decent substitute.

I managed to meet all of my deadlines, despite some serious procrastination. Now I have to circle back and see what I neglected while I was doing that. My boss is on vacation, so I'm covering a couple of meetings for him too. Should make the rest of the week go fast!

Bob - If I found a Portuguese restaurant, what should I order?

Good one Beaker! QOD: Since I have lived elsewhere for extended periods of time (years, in fact) the one regional food I always miss is Tastykake's Butterscotch Krimpets!

Good morning!

Busy day at work today, but have a momentary break right now. I just approved an autumn quarter graduation application for a woman whose DD graduated college a few years ago. I've been helping her get through her last requirements including math and foreign language. I'm so thrilled for her! I'm always happy for my graduating students, but my older students always get a little extra cheer from me, because it is not easy to go back to school when you have kids and jobs, etc.

QOD- that's a difficult question, Ohio really doesn't have any so iconic that I couldn't find it elsewhere or make it myself. So, I think I'd have to go with my sister's homemade apple pie. She learned from our grandmother and nothing comes close to it.

Jill - What the heck are Tastykake's Butterscotch Krimpets? They sound like Edinburough hookers.

They are truly yummy, but I must admit I'm partial to the Tastykake Kandy Kakes myself. Chocolate and peanut butter, of course.

QOD: Without a doubt, cheese curds. I don't eat them often, but when I lived in Florida, EVERY time I came up here I had my sister get them for me.

Fun: DS had his last football game last night. It was CRAZY windy. He lost and was bummed, but it was SO FUN watching him. He loves it and gives it 110%. I got to see him score 2 (of the 3) TDs and an extra point before I had to leave. It is really awesome to see my kid try so hard and love doing something so much. Bonus that he rocks out there.

Not fun: Board meeting tonight, which means I will miss most of the FSU game. Not to mention that between DH and I, we've had something going on EVERY night. This will continue through next Thursday.

Qod: Sweet Tea. Sadly, it seems to disappear anywhere north of NC.

I am convinced now that my crud this week is from allergies. I felt pretty good yesterday, minus a nap mid-day. Today, I get up. All is well. I get in the car. No more than 10 minutes pass before my nose starts running like crazy. I figure it must be due to allergies, since I was indoors all day yesterday. Time to find some 12-hour allergy meds!

morning peeps.

Someone left us doughnut holes as a thanks for our work in our department this morning. Since I never ate supper last night, it was a welcome treat.

I caught up on some sleep last night, even got in a nap before rehearsal. I'm still tired but not like yesterday.

ETA:

QOD: from the Merrimack Valley where I grew up, sicilian meat pie. I can't even get it in Boston. I can't tell you how much I miss this stuff at times. In general, fried clams and lobster rolls.

The only iconic one I can think of is Tony Packo's. But I haven't eaten it in 8 years, so it's not something I'd miss.

It always gives me pause when Dh is on the phone ordering 50lbs of merckens. I always think merkins. Heh.

I need a good butcher shop. There is one by my sister, but nothing really up here by me.

My goal is to make short ribs this winter. I have seen them on Food Network (Tyler Florence's recipe is the one I'm going to try) and Top Chef and they look amazing. But every time I look for that cut in the store, they never have them. Has anyone here ever made them?
