My Coach had me do a swim session last night that included 5 x 500m that were to be swum at what I would consider IM pace but with throwing in a fast 50m every 200m . I had 30secs rest between each set and I was to time each set but not look at the clock until I had finished the entire session

The Times for the 5 sets were
1--9:23
2--9:26
3--9:21
4--9:27
5--9:23

2 things from this
one was just how consistent my swimming has become - all the drills are paying off - every time i counted strokes per length it was always 20-21 always

and the second was that I am right on target for my sub 70min swim in Germany

My point is keep doing the drills in the pool they really work

Nice work. Good to see training pay off in that kind of consistency.

Hope you're not making the fatal mistake of getting attached to a swim goal for your IM, though. It's a loooong day out there and even going 50% over your 70min goal is not that big of a deal in the big picture. Your best friend will be a nice even disposition...no really high highs and no really low lows.

Cheers Stu

I have certain time goals that I would like to do but if it all goes wrong for part of it I will not let it get to me -I AM TOO STRONG MENTALLY

Last year in my 1/2 IM in Belgium I was over 10 mins slower on the swim than the previous year - I knocked my shoulder and thought I wouldnt be able to finish the swim - I did and set off on the bike 12 mins behind the previous year and probably closer to 15 behind were I wanted to be - I ended up finishing the day nearly 30 mins ahead of the previous year SO i will head your advice and not get too worried -

As long as I cross the finish line in under 16hrs I will be happy I do not want to (Sorry I will not ) DNF - It will not happen anything better will be a bonus
