I got paid for the first time today at my new job and I got a little surprise. You see my job offer stated a salary that was based on a 35 hour work week, M-F 9-5 with an hour for lunch each day. Well, I got paid for 40 hours for one week. I’m wondering if this was a mistake or if I actually get paid for 40 hours a week. I want to read my offer letter and see my next paycheck in 2 weeks before I say anything.

If I do get paid for 40 hours a week, this little step back in which I took a 10% paycut, will actually result in a 3% increase. How cool would that be?

But I do think it’s a mistake.

Well, hope for the best, and re-read the offer. It would be cool if it isn't a mistake!

Why would my offer letter state that my salary is based on a 35 hour week then? If you take my hourly rate and multiply it by 35 hours and then 52 weeks, it comes out to the figure in the offer letter. It's gotta be a mistake on my paycheck.

When I interviewed they mentioned it was basically a 40 hour workweek and then she said, technically it's a 35 hour week.

I work a 37.5 hour week...with a full hour for lunch. So my job change was a 6% increase in salary, but a bigger hourly increase since I work 2.5 hours less a week.

Technically speaking of course. I WORK more at my new job.

Crossing my fingers for you, Notey!
