This is my very first race report. The day before the race I had the chance to meet up with Liam and Voodoo (Joe). We were all shooting for about the same pace. The day before race day was quite nice, a little sunny. I thought I came to Southern California for a little sunshine!

Race day was a tropical rainstorm! I am from Washington, near Seattle. We really don't get rainshowers like they had on Sunday. It sprinkles and it is oftern gray, but we rarely get the kind of wind that will blow you off your feet.

I met up with Joe and Liam and we started the race together. My shoes were soaked before I started the race! We ran about the first 4 miles together until I had to stop for a little potty break. I spent the next several miles trying to catch back up to the guys, although I didn't want to push it too much and burn out at the end. I really wanted to qualify for Boston and I was right on pace. I caught up to Liam at about mile 10 and we ran together for awhile. I ran with another nice guy for several miles, until I had to once again stop for a potty break. I have never had to stop twice, must have been the rain! I didn't see any mile markers after mile 17. I had lost my garmin signal because the weather was so bad. I had no idea how I was doing for pace. I caught up to the 3:50 pacer and he said we were at about mile 22+, but we were slow for our pace and would really need to pick it up. I wasn't sure I could do it. I was fatigued from the wind and tight from the rain and cold. Jon (the pacer and my angel) asked me "how bad do you want it?" It was exactly the challenge I needed! I chased Jon the last few miles (8:35-8:25 pace) whew! It was the fastest I have ever run at the end of a marathon!!! We had to weave in and out of the half marathoners for the last 3/4 mile. I crossed the finish line in 3:49:49 with 11 seconds to spare! I didn't think I was going to qualify because I had run some real slow miles. I picked up my garmin signal again toward the middle-end of the race and I ran a few miles at 9:00-9:30. When I crossed the finish line, I was screaming, "I did it, I can't believe I did it". I think people thought I was crazy!

This race report is long, but the other cool thing- my daughter (age 10) and my husband and his older brother all ran the 5k. It was my husband and brother-in-law's first race! I was really proud of them.

It was a blustery day, but great to run with new friends and my family. BQ was icing on the cake. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post!

Not a good day for racing in So Cal...... I ran the 5K and had a hard time concentrating on my pace... can't imagine doing another 23! We are blessed with great running weather in So Cal year round.... there are maybe 5 bad days a year for running... Sunday was one of them!

Rainie - that is AWESOME.

And just think, those 2 potty stops were the only reason it was even a close call on the BQ. That probably cost you at least 2-3 minutes right there. Another day, that doesn't happen.

Bottom line -- you knocked that BQ right out of the park. Congratulations and I'll see you in Boston '09!
