A good race, 43:24. On a flat, straight course I think I could run 42 but this is anything but that. That's about a 4-minute PR from the summer 8k on a flat, straight course, so I'll take it!

Have fun tomorrow, TW. And no, I don't think I've ever called you an inspiration. Not to your face, anyway!

12 mile LR this morning that took way longer than it should have. First 5.5 miles were on our favourite trail, which turned out to be far worse footing than we'd hoped for. When we got to the road at the turn-around, my training partner decided that he couldn't handle the return trip thru the forest, so could we please take the road back south (and downhill and with the wind) to the parking lot. OK, I took pity on the old guy and agreed. We were back to the cars at 8.3 miles. Since there was no way I was cutting the first LR of this program short, I kept going for another almost-2 miles and turned around to get back to the car. The last 1.8 miles were the hardest I've done in a long time... uphill, into a cold wind and blowing, drifting snow. But I got it done! Will be looking for easier routes as the LR distances increase, I think!

It is a little quiet for sure. Is everyone training or just on another forum ????

Blimey Opie, 4 minutes and on a much harder course. Sounds like you will fly this year.

Heme - those long runs make you strong and can only make the other ones easier

I have blogged about yesterdays race and the week that lead to my run.

Jogged a 5km pacing my brother today, he ran 24.10 while MrsG "chicked" the entire field. That was great to see.

Got a call from two lads I coach who finished 1st and 2nd in a 5km with one running his best time this year and the other running his best time for about 2 years. Hopefully both of these lads will rip the track up this season.

My world is bigger than my own racing and I hope to always remember that.

The game was fun and then DW & I went on our Valentine's dinner date. [raising a Dos Equis amber draft with lime and salt on the rim to Heme] Mariposai, I don't want to spread myself too thin trying to keep up with more than one forum. That's also part of the reason I don't facebook.

Allow me to give some more details about my race. I had a blast! This was one of the biggest local races I've been to lately. There were 150 Masters Male runners if that tells you anything and it's a tough group of guys. #9 overall is in my age group and had a 30:10. I did a little over 2 mile warmup, then lined up. During my warmup I was concerned because the finish line had a bad icy patch. The national anthem was awesome and we joked around that the young lady singing was better than Christina Aguilera because she knew the words. It was very congested for the first half mile so maybe I should have started further up. I felt strong and did the whole "heavy hands" things on the hills but still felt myself slowing down. I did fly down the other side as usual.

I passed people for about the first 4 miles and then a guy I picked off at the finish line. I had no idea until a few minutes ago when I generated this graph that I had so much kick at the finish! Luckily, the icy patch was just a wet spot by then.

Immediately after the finish, I saw a group of runners from my town and ended up doing a cooldown with them after we grabbed a bagel and banana. I ended up with 11.3 miles for the day so I'm happy to get some miles in, too.

Results based on gun time and remember I was quite a ways back: AG 21/54, Masters Male 55/150, Overall 179/732.

Hi everybody that's still here

I wanted to run a faster pace today after a couple recovery days. I started out the first 2 miles in about 16:20 and kept lowering the pace. I was either having a very good day or that particular treadmill was on the slow side as I ran much faster than expected. I ended up with 8.25 miles in 60:00 (7:16 pace) at 3% incline. Elevation gain was a little over 1,300 ft. Huey Lewis is also great uptempo music to run to and that may have helped with all that extra dopamine.

Belated congrats Gobi on your race the other day and congrats to Mrs. G as well, but "jogged" a 5K in 24:10. I couldn't hit that speed falling off a cliff.

Nice trail run Heme in some bad weather, I see you've gone over to the other side now too. Actually, if I can figure out how to get rid of the user name I originally registered over there and substitute some variation of Johnny, I guess I'm headed there too.

8.5 mile run in town around noon, embarassed to say the temp was in the 60's. Snow predicted for the valley floor on Tuesday though. Oh & a congrats to myself for figuring out how to multi-quote.

This is certainly your year for PR's Opie! Congrats! I hope to follow in the lead you've established and set a few PR's myself this year.

congrats to Gobi and Mrs.G also on their racing and <ahem> jogging . . .

My son had a great basketball game today. Scored 16 of the teams 38 pts. He was really on fire today. Then he had a friend come over to spend the night. They are out in the hottub now and I can hear them from inside the house and the windows are all closed. Such goofy boys.

ran 6.4 today. The plan was 10 but a late start due to the basketball game and running too close to dinner time, made me have to cut it short. I won't have as much going on tomorrow, other than cleaning out my car, so hopefully we'll get another nice day for some running. We are long overdue for rain and it's supposed to hit by Monday or Tuesday..

16 miles for me today(Saturday) , at 8:32 pace. I only wish that it felt a little easier than it seemed. Not a killer, but not a breeze either.
