I have never started a daily thread; I guess there is a first time for everything!

No running for me of course, although it is surprisingly sunny here in Portland. I did my PT exercises, which really seem to make my knee hurt worse. We’re going forward with the assumption that my latest knee issue is muscle insertion point caused and not another torn meniscus. I’m not quite sure about this yet since my pain is in the exact same spot where it was with the meniscus tear. But I’ll be dutiful and compliant and following the professionals advice.

One thing that I’ve vowed to do this time is I will not attempt to run again until my left knee feels as good as my right. This has not been the case for at least three years; even before surgery. So it could be a long while before I run again, if ever. I need to face that realization and act accordingly.

{{{{{{{Lab}}}}}} Hang in there my fren! Are they going to do another MRI to get a definitive cause for this latest round of pain?

Plenty of nice runs yesterday!

{{{{everyone else's achy bits}}}}

Met my running partner for a snowy run on our favourite winter trail. While there is barely 2" of snow where I live, there was about 6" at the trail head where we started and over a foot at the top of the morraine where we turned around to go back to the cars. There's been plenty of skiiers thru, but only a few snowshoers, so much of the trail wasn't evenly packed, making the footing treacherous. We slogged it out for 9.25 miles, but it was well worth it, as the forest was drop-dead gorgeous. There was no wind so the trees were heavy with snow and almost every twig sported an inch of powder. At one point three wild turkeys crossed the trail in front of us and silently wandered off into the bush. The run was slow and exhausting, but I'm glad I didn't miss it!

Have a glorious day everyone!!!

DNFed in a 15K to today. After a 3 minute bathroom break in mile 3, I got to the 5 mile marker and didn't feel like continuing.

Its my own fault. I shouldn't have eaten duck's blood at a Chinese restaurant last night.

I can still taste it.

It gives me a great idea though for people who want to lose weight. Duck's blood chewing gum! One piece and you won't feel like eating for two days

So sorry to hear you DNF'ed. I, too, have had to DNF a race due to GI issues, so I feel your pain...

I was up at 5AM today, making deviled eggs and prepping for a holiday family get together...then I drove into Somerville for a long warmup and followed by a 23:55 5K Jingle Bell Run. I hustled back home, threw on some lipstick and was able to start sipping champagne and handing out presents a mere 1 hour after the starting gun fired...606/4718 overall, and 14/337 age group. I enjoyed a lovely time, and am still noshing on honeybaked ham, cheese and pate and champers, wearing the baubles that Santa brought. I get to celebrate Christmas on 2 separate weekends!

Hang in there, Bro.

Never thought of duck's blood as a race threatening beverage.

Hope everything is back to normal, bap.

But I played it safe and stayed on the pavement today since my body is already a menagerie of minor aches, pulls and pains -mostly snow related.

Friday I ran 10+ in slushy mushy snow that got downright difficult by the end.

Today, 8 -2 mile loops on pavement. Took a short un-timed break at each loop for refreshment. My prior ambition was for 20 miles, but 16 at marathon pace felt like plenty.

That cold snowy weather sounds lovely. 70° and absolutely no wind today for my run.

Decided to go long today and was shooting for 80 minutes. I started to feel it about 45 minutes in and my heartrate started creeping.up. Stopped at 60 minutes and got a drink while the treadmill was resetting. Increased the pace and did another 15 minutes before cranking up the pace and sprinting the last minute at about 9 minute pace. Total was 6.5 miles in 76 minutes. 12% incline and a pr 4,100 ft elevation gain.

My head cold is still there, but it's not horrible, so I've still been running, albeit not pushing myself. Yesterday was a nice relaxed 6.4 miles and today was 8.5 miles, both at about a 9:40 avg pace. I didn't think I'd run much this week, let alone break 40 miles once again, so I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out. Oh, and I just passed 1400 miles for the year, something I never ever thought I'd attain. I think the most I'd ever run annually was in the 800s. Amazing what you can accomplish when you don't set any expectations.

Doc Robin! I ran that Jingle Bell run today too! Got the start late and had to fight my way through lots of joggers for the first mile. Finished 22:47, 7:20 pace. 404 OA, and 16th AG. It was fun hanging out with my peeps at the Burren afterwards.

DARN IT! I wish I had known so that we could have done a big KR high-five after the race! I did see someone with a race bib running in the opposite direction of the herds near the start of the race along Highland Ave., and I wondered if it was a runner who was late to the start...was it you?

I don't think so. I approached from Elm St, stopped by the port-o-potties, and then tried to move up along the left sidewalk when the gun went off. I had a sleigh attached to 6 reindeer ahead of me for crying out loud! Would have loved to see you, but there'll be other times.

Ah....I made my way well forward of the sleigh and reindeer...cute concept, but I sure didn't want to be stuck behind them! Sorry to have missed you. We'll have to plan better the next time...

Drop dead gorgeous is right, Heme! Nice run.

Duck's blood...sounds awful! Sorry for the DNF, bap.

We went skiing this morning on less snow than Heme had for her run. With frozen ground it's amazing how little you can get by with and still get a good ski in. For my tight hips skiing is a great warmup. I followed with a hilly run of 12.25 miles, way less elevation than rip. A ski would have been a good stretch afterwards too but I was pretty tired and ready to quit by then.

Too funny about the "near miss" for Robin and Mike. Sounds like a fun race, santas, sleighs, reindeer and all that. Oh, and Robin? You totally rawk doing all that today.

Hoping for some good news soon from Eugene...

I ran a nice trail/road/hilly run today. Started up at the trailhead a few miles from home (DH dropped me off up there), a little over 1,400 feet and a balmy +1° (yes, that was exciting to see!). Temperatures dropped steadily as I went down the hill, to a low of -16° by the lake a couple miles from where I stopped at DH's office (-13° there). I really thought this was an 11 mile run, must've gone around campus last time I did it. Today was 10.1 miles, just under 8:30 average pace.
