Dove... it's Penn, #1128; looking good so far!

Welcome to JJVoo who posted yesterday. Come on in and tell us a little about yourself. What are you training for?

Mike, getting it done is what counts. Fast finish is even better.

Woohoo Tammy on your most excellent race! AG placing is tough because while you can have the race of your life, but you never know who else is going to show up. Doesn't matter, you did great. Nice to see the training pay off, isn't it?

Welcome back to Johnny and Rindaroo, both of whom were missed!

Hoping for another Ben update soon...

I had a frosty 11.2 miler yesterday, started at the top of the trailhead (about 1,400 feet and a balmy -2°) and dropped down over the next 6-7 miles to the low point of about 400 ft (and -18°F), then back up to DH's office where my car and a change of clothes were waiting for me.

A little colder today, but I still want to get outside for a run. I "only" need 12 for a 50 mile week, the first one of those since oh, maybe October? I'd have to check. Maybe even August, as pre-Equinox. Not sure. Anyway, it'll be nice to get outside in the sunshine again. I spend so much of the week on the treadmill I hate to do that on a weekend.

Today's 13.7 miles in 28 degrees seemed tougher than yesterday's 15.3 miler in -11 degree temperature. The winds are starting back up today and the footing was a bit tougher as the snow softens---like running in oatmeal in spots. I'll take it though. Two back to back longish runs and all at 8:00 pace or faster. I did like that today's run only required two layers.

Great racing Tammy and sweet PR. Fantastic!

Good Luck to mcsolar---fleet feet!

First 70 mile week of this cycle in the books....Outta my way Mother Nature!

We're not stubborn TW, just determined. Hang in there---I think you are the toughest athlete I know by far.

Thanks, Mariposai. I just got back from church and really wanted to know how he did, so this is the first place I checked! Way to go, mcsolar!!!

eta-Mike, you should feel good about your run yesterday. With 3 layers on, it would be weird if it didn't seem like plodding at some point and you finished strong.

Yeah Opie, I was tracking my friend Mario Fraioli and Kara who were having a little friendly challenge. Mario wins, but Kara was a bit off to say the least.

Still I so motivated I got off the couch and ran 3M!!

Afternoon all looks like MC gave it a fair crack of the whip.

Some interesting reports about weather, here in the UK I suddenly have spring 11/13 degrees C

Race report from me

I decided to do the Wellingborough 15km off road race plus some miles. Simple plan, run some laps race(controlled effort) and run laps.

Did a warm up lap and headed back to the car where I happened to have my XC spikes so I put them on, tells you about conditions on a quite hilly course.

Lap1 and off steady, mixture of 5/10/15km runners turns out I am running with the lead lady in the 10km. All smooth no issues.

Lap2 and I pulled away from the lead lady but was joined by the 2nd place man in the 10km. Funny as on every hill I moved away and he had to come back to me. That was the entire lap with me letting him go as he kicked for the finish.

Lap3 and discovered 2 things, I was in 6th place and I could see 5th. Having not raced for 2 laps I decided to see if I could catch him nothing silly but 10 minutes later I was in 5th.

So what a difference a day makes

3 laps at not much slower than yesterdays 5km pace and my last lap was the fastest. Felt good enough to carry on at the same pace.

54.55 and 5th place overall, 1st V40

Total miles 15. A good day.

Rach did the 10km as a hard training run and finished 3rd lady with no foot pain :¬)

WTG, Matt!!!

Nice to see Pro drop in to see us. First Baba, then Rinda, now Pro, too! Hurray!

Erika, I mirrored your run yesterday.........at least in terms of distance........... 11.2 very slow miles of dirt roads and a wee bit of trail with my training partner at -10°C in glorious sunshine. I swear the man is actually getting slower... found myself pulling ahead a lot and holding back on the hills. I'm beginning to think it's almost time to move on and look for a faster bunch, but I hate to abandon the guy. He's been there for me last year when I've needed company on long trail training runs, and we've become rather good friends.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

tw - you remain a true inspiration. You put up with a lot more than most to get a w/o in.

Greta racing mc, gobi, and mrs gobi!! I envy your speed.

Hey Pro! Whatcha watching at 4:30 today?

Thanks for the props Opie, and Erika. Erika - I had the chance to run at -2 yesterday, but waited until mid-day for the temps to get up into the upper teens/low 20's. I note -2 was your high. You're one tuff lady.

Opie, it's about time Brooke gave you a day off.

CNY - you're an amazing athlete! Another speedster. Nice back-to-back LRs.

Baba - I played that tune today too. 4 miles nice and easy. My right AT is a little mad about yesterday's 20. This was a recoery run that really did some good I think.

Greetings from sunny Key Biscayne.

Sunny and almost 80° !! I haven't did a flatland run in quite a while so I got warmed up last night with a run right at dusk in Fort Pierce. Mostly flat except running on the bridge over where the boats passed under. 23:47 out, 22:13 in for 46 minutes. Probably a little over 6 miles.

Today right at noon, I parked at the boat ramp and headed for Key Biscayne and beyond to a state park. The initial plan was to run into the park and do a loop and come back to the car. It would probably be 6 or 7 miles. I had to park a little farther away so the run would have been a couple miles longer but I was going to try it anyway and walk to the car if I couldn't make it. I started off and didn't feel great. My hip that was real tight yesterday was a little better at the start but I could feel it when I picked up the pace. I was also running the first couple miles on grass so that was a bit harder. I got into town and finally started to feel good after about 20 minutes. Made it through town and got to the park and saw a sign that even the bike riders and runners/walkers had to PAY to get in?? I wouldn't have done that even if I had any money on me so I turned around and headed back. I already had 28:50 in. I ran on the other side of the boulavard and saw a marker that said 1.5 miles so I was able to time my last two miles 7:18, 6:57 before getting back to my car in 55:56. Probably around 7.5 miles. That's the longest I have run outside in many months and after only doing incline runs on the treadmill, my quads were getting sore when I quit. I may run a 5k tomorrow but it is at 8 am so I don't know if I want to run that early. My legs also might be a little sore so I will make a game day decision on that.

Nice job on the marathon McSolar.

Rip, please send some of that heat up here to NC...

I walked 3 miles today on the Greenway...lots of ice.

I ran the inaugural Charleston Marathon yesterday with a large group of people from my running group.

...not that crazy about the way the course was laid out but it was flatter than a pancake...problem was that I felt like a rat in a maze.

The first 11 miles were great but after that the course turned into a confusing maze. There were runners on the same road in both directions for the WHOLE WAY right up the the Finish Line....not good planning.

However, I head a great time there and 4 of us were officially certified as INSANE...

Congrats to all our racing folks this weekend!

And a special shout out to our NEW MANIAC--Peter--- woot!

I need to adjust my LR training a bit toward time-on-my-feet type events to get ready for the Mt Mitchell Challenge in only 7 weeks (!??!).

It's not quite a true 40 miler but the weather spectrum from 3200' at the start finish to 6600' at the turnaround can present challenges.

Starting today's LR, I dialed back my pace to a solid 12min/mile and held it there for quite a while.

Temps were up to the low 30s today so I wore a pair of knee length compression shorts and my favorite hiking shorts.

Footing is still far from good but snow was packed and frozen along most of the way.

I stayed on top of hydration and calories like white on rice and it payed off. No threat of bonk in sight.

My pace gradually quikened and I finished at about 11:14 overall pace discounting about 8 mins worth of streeetching and jel breaks.

21 miles,

JJJ
